Smoky Mountain Knife Works is probably one of the most insane shops I've ever been to. Prior to moving to this beautiful state, I came here thinking it was just some knife shop...it's so much more than that! You've never truly been to TN unless you've been inside a three-story shop that sells knives and swords of every kind, guns galore, rocks, fossils, taxidermy, and historical collectors items. I found a few WW2 Germany artifacts here and I knew I was in TN when I could buy a Nazi helmet and a gun at the same time (not that I did nor would desire to, but wow). Browsing their mystical "fossils" was fun, too. As a rock collector, I will say that the rocks were overpriced and honestly, not the greatest collection for clarity. What was priced well were the ninja stars. The staff here are all friendly and helpful, none follow you around which is nice because this store is massive and can easily take over an hour wandering around and browsing. If you're comfortable walking around knowing people are carrying and watching the sell of weapons, this store is pretty cool. read more

Even if you don't buy anything it's worth a visit to look around. Some things seemed reasonably priced while others were a bit high. They appeared to have plenty of employees to help customers, at least in the upper level where the knives are; could use more on the lower level in the gun and ammo area. read more

I made an 8-hour round trip so my son, who had just turned 21, could buy his first firearm on his own as a birthday milestone. The prices here were excellent, and while we were shopping, I found several firearms I wanted to purchase as well. We arrived about two hours before closing, which should have been plenty of time. The first salesperson retrieved the box for the firearm my son initially selected, but he changed his mind after finding the same model in black. I also let the staff know which firearms I wanted to buy, and they said they needed to locate the boxes. A little later, we were told they couldn't continue looking because there was a manager meeting in the area where the boxes were stored, and employees weren't allowed in. That was a baffling decision. Why schedule a meeting that prevents your sales staff from accessing inventory and completing sales? To save time, they had us complete all of the paperwork while they continued looking. Our background checks were approved without issue. At that point, all that remained was checking out. Then we were told they couldn't find any of the four boxes for the firearms, so they couldn't sell them. I understand why the original boxes are required, they contain the extra magazines, accessories, and documentation. I even suggested completing the sale and having my son, who lives in Knoxville, pick up the box later if necessary. That wasn't an option. What was even more concerning was the explanation. We were told Beretta "just gives them tons of guns," as if the manufacturer was somehow responsible. But Beretta doesn't unpack the firearms, place them in display cases, and lose track of the boxes. That's entirely an inventory management issue. If you have dozens of identical firearms, I understand that finding a specific serial-numbered box could be challenging. But there are simple inventory solutions. Assign each display firearm a matching inventory number, place the same number on its box, and store the boxes sequentially. Locating the correct box would take minutes instead of potentially becoming impossible. To one employee's credit, he made another attempt to locate my son's box and eventually found it, allowing him to complete his birthday purchase. I genuinely appreciated his effort. Unfortunately, I left empty-handed. Initially, I told them not to bother looking for my firearms the next day because I wasn't driving another eight-hour round trip. Before leaving, however, I changed my mind and asked them to call me if they located the boxes so I could decide whether I could make arrangements. Two days later, I still hadn't received a phone call. The store lost roughly $1,400 in sales from my purchases alone. That's not an insignificant amount, and it's hard to understand how any business can be comfortable displaying inventory that it ultimately can't sell because it can't locate the required packaging. The pricing was outstanding, and several employees were friendly and genuinely tried to help. Unfortunately, poor inventory management and operational decisions completely overshadowed what should have been a great experience. I hope management takes a hard look at these processes because I can't imagine the owners would be pleased knowing sales are being lost simply because employees can't access or locate inventory that's already on display. read more

I have been a customer of Smoky Mountain Knife Works since I was approximately 15 years old. I am now 50, and over the decades I have always considered SMKW one of the premier knife retailers in the country. Unfortunately, this recent experience was one of the worst customer service experiences I have had with any retailer in years. The primary item I wanted from this order was the GiantMouse GMF1P Vox Anso PVD Stonewash. The Knafs Lander 4 was more of an impulse addition afterward. I placed the order Sunday night, and for four days nothing was picked or processed. Then, on Thursday, I was informed that the GiantMouse knife was no longer available because it had apparently been sold off the showroom floor before my order was fulfilled. What makes this especially frustrating is that your representative confirmed the item WAS in stock when I purchased it. Had my order been processed in a timely manner instead of sitting untouched for four days, the knife would likely still have been available to fulfill my order. Instead, my money was held for several days, the item was removed from my order, and I was issued a refund that now may take up to 10 business days to return to me. Meanwhile, the one item I did not particularly want was already shipped before I was even properly contacted about the issue. I also received an email asking me to contact SMKW regarding my order, but by that point there was effectively nothing left to discuss because the refund had already been processed and the partial shipment had already gone out. When I called customer service, I asked why there had been no attempt to offer alternatives or upgrades. I would have gladly paid more to upgrade to a higher-end GiantMouse model or different steel option. Instead of attempting to retain a longtime customer or even upsell another product, I was simply told "there's nothing that can be done." I then asked about canceling the remaining order entirely, and I was told that if I refused the package after delivery, I would then have to wait again for the item to be returned and processed before receiving another refund. In other words, because of delays and inventory handling problems on your end, my money could effectively be tied up for weeks. That is not acceptable customer service. What concerns me most is that this no longer feels like an isolated incident. After this experience, I reviewed recent customer feedback online and found many similar complaints repeating the same themes: Excellent selection Poor communication Slow fulfillment Weak customer service Little concern for longtime customers SMKW may be the largest knife store in the world, but customer loyalty is not maintained by inventory size alone. It is maintained by how customers are treated when problems occur. I strongly suggest your company reevaluate its order fulfillment and customer service procedures, especially during large sales events. Selling inventory that is not actually secured for online customers, delaying fulfillment for days, and then holding customer funds while offering no meaningful resolution creates a very poor experience. I sincerely hope this feedback reaches management, because many longtime customers like myself do notice the difference between the SMKW of years ago and the current operation. read more

I would like to leave an encouragement to Cory, who is in the relic department today. He assisted me over the phone. I had asked for help finding a specific fossil we had looked at the week prior. Cory went above and beyond to locate the exact article I was searching for. He sent the photos of the variety we were discussing, and he made sure I was able to select the one I was hoping to find. It is being shipped to us in North Carolina! His patience and kindness are so appreciated. We will enjoy all the treasures we purchased the day of the visit. There were shiny rocks, kitchen accessories, and so much more that we had to leave behind and did. Now the fossil is catching up! No trip to the Smokies is complete without a stop at SMKW! I believe there's something for everyone inside but anyone that loves knives can spend hours here. They carry every brand known to man and typically their prices are hard to beat, especially when it's a sale item. The only area that is lacking is staffing on my last couple trips. While the service is friendly, they're almost always overwhelmed. I typically arrive there on a mission with specific knives I'm purchasing only to arrive at displays where people are huddled, requesting to see everything in the case and buying absolutely nothing. My only recommendation: I wish they offered a concierge service for people that know exactly what they want so they can get in and get out instead of herding around the display to compare metallurgy, test Rockwell hardness or tell stories about how they skinned a gopher with an uncle buck bowie knife in 1968. The point is that everyone's time is valuable and if it becomes more of an inconvenience to stop in the store in person, it's obviously much easier to find stuff online, click the button and have it on my doorstep tomorrow. read more

When they say world's largest showcase , I finally understand why after walking through it myself. There are multiple floors packed with every kind of knife you can imagine , and just when you think you've seen it all, there's another level waiting. You go upstairs and see knives, downstairs and see knives, then downstairs again and yep... more knives . I honestly lost track of how many floors there were and felt overwhelmed more than once ‍, in the best and most exhausting way. They do accept credit cards , but cash is clearly preferred , which is good to know before you commit. What surprised me most was the limited number of registers, marked by blue balloons 14, which felt small for a place this massive. By the time I finally chose a knife after navigating through hundreds of options and people, the checkout line was easily 14 to 15 folks deep . Parking is ample , though on a busy day it can still feel a bit tight. This is easily a two day visit minimum if you want to explore without rushing. And who knew the world's largest knife destination would be in Knoxville . read more

The person who helped me was friendly and helpful. Took about 5 minutes to get the job done. Cost me a few bucks and was SHARP. Definitely will be back. Smokey Mountain Knife Works is a very unique place and came highly recommended.( if you're squeamish about seeing all kinds of real animals that have been stuffed and displayed, then this is not the place for you.) That being said, upon entering I can see why this is such a unique store. It's 108,000 sq foot knife showroom which is the world's largest. It houses a vast collection of high-quality cutlery memorabilia, artifacts, and mounts, optics as well as every type of knives and outdoor equipment you can think of. . SMKW has two levels. They have a ramp that goes all around the store, besides steps. There is also water that flows down into the lower level. Everyone throws coins in the water and makes a wish.( see my video.) I spent 2 hours walking around. It's broken down into sections because they offer so many interesting and practical items besides knives, guns, bullets, clothing, tactical, and housewares,etc. As I walked around there was so much to see from all the displays.On the main floor is all kinds of knives displayed in glass cases, and behind the counter and in framed pictures on the wall as I walked around. They also have work and camo clothing on this floor. . In another area on the same floor is guns, ammo, rifles, tactical gear, etc. Each area has staff that are knowledgeable and helpful. This place gets so busy so there are times when you will have to wait to be helped but on the whole, the staff is very nice, friendly and helpful. On the lower level is cutlery, all kinds of cooking knives, pots n pans, knickknacks, and every kind of gadget imaginable. There is also several tables that are what I call the sale tables, and you can find all kinds of knives reasonably. You must be 18 years old in order to pick them up. I bought a heavy duty sheet pan made in the USA and a 9x9 heavy duty baking cake pan, jumbo muffin pan, pairing knife and cute spoon rest with my name on it. My boyfriend bought a huge sword, and a Japanese style single blade chopping/ slicing knife. Everyone is encouraged to try on historical looking armor and a sword, and sit on a thrown style chair for a photo op.( see pictures.) You can pick up geodes, different kinds of stones, and fossils. Since there's so many knives of all kinds, grades and styles, prices may vary.I really can't say if it's a bargain or not, but the quality is there. This place is wheelchair friendly and has handicap parking. My time spent here was a fun one. I definitely recommend making the trip. . read more

Then you can go through the history section where you can buy things from the Revolutionary War, through World War II. In addition they have guns, pistols,rifles, ammo and everything to do with firearms. Whenever we visit friends in Sevierville or Gatlinburg, we stop in to look at everything this store has to offer - and they have an incredible selection of knives as well as souvenirs and clothing. The staff is helpful and friendly. The store is laid out well so that you don't feel lost, but you do feel overwhelmed by all the merchandise around you. For our most recent trip (8/16/21), we were looking for a small knife to replace the one Husbsndlost 8/13. Unfortunately we could not find the exact one we needed (gift from nephew in Albuquerque). However, we did find a tee shirt for our nephew's birthday, and small food gifts for the kids at home who live next door. I also found an unusual voodoo doll for my hairdresser at home who is recuperating from surgery. I don't know if it's still on display on the lower floor, but in 2019, a replica of the throne in Game of Thrones was available for photo ops - along with the long sword to hold. Smoky Mountain Knife Works in Sevierville, TN proclaims they are "The Worlds Largest Knife Store" and advertises they have the "largest in-stock, on-hand selection of knives for sale and if it cuts they carry it." Many travel guides recommend this as a must do roadside attraction stop for a Great Smoky Mountains gift shop visit on your way to Pigeon Forge, TN and Gatlinburg, TN and I would agree this is a place you certainly would enjoy seeing. Smoky Mountain Knife Works really does have an amazing selection of knives, swords, blades, ammo, firearms and an amazing assortment of many other items with clothing being one of the largest options outside of blades. Smoky Mountain Knife Works is also the location of the famous Relic Room which is advertised as having the "largest diversity of history for sale in North America." This is one of many Smoky Mountains gift shop options in the area but this gift shop is definitely a lot more than just a gift shop and is more of a major tourist attraction with their store holding so many things to see, do and buy on a really overwhelming big selection of so many items that you really need to plan on spending some time here to see all the attractions and even begin to appreciate their huge inventory. Overall I just really had a fun time here and found that it really is an overwhelming selection of so many items that it should have something for almost anybody. They aren't just an online retailer, they have a huge selection of cutting accoutrements in person and you can ask to see them and see how they feel in the hand. The older man working to kick people out at the end of the day really needs to retire. We had over $200 worth of merchandise we were wanting to checkout with that we were forced to leave behind and it wasn't even quite 6pm yet. Also, you can forget getting an employee to help you after 5:30. They just wanted to talk to each other and not get anything out of cases while the older man is yelling at you to hurry up and leave. What an absolute horrible experience! We've honestly never been treated this badly in any establishment ever! I cannot believe how rude employees were. I would love for the owner to send someone undercover at this time of day to report back their experience. We drove by this place after seeing some billboards on the way to Pigeon Forge. We decided to turn around after we grabbed lunch to check it out and we are glad we did. The employees were very helpful and one even helped us pick out our babies first pocket knife that she won't be getting until she is much older. It will be something that we can tell her about when she gets old enough to have it. This place is really big and has a ton to look at and is very well organized. You can get gifts for anyone on your family ranging from hunting gear, knifes, clothes, stuffed animals, toys, gems, kitchen wears, food and much more. Still a lot or products in one place. Some changes since my last visit. We used to choose knives and they would be sent to the register so pay for all the goodies. Now there are registers all over the place. I hated it. Now I have many small transactions and have to carry packages while I shop. I tried to use a digital credit card all the info needs to be typed in since the card is ONLY digital. No one could figure it out. They lost over $570 in sales. Told me I could go enter my order in the website and have it shipped! What I water was on the counter in front of me! Really disappointed in what used to be a great part of my vacation in the smokies. read more

We visit the store once a year or so. Good selection but prices seem much higher than in the past. I guess that is a sign of the times and can't fault them on that. The reason we won't be back is due to the staff. My husband & I entered the store and went our separate ways to look at the items we were interested in. When we met back up, both of us had the same experience. Employees followed me from the time I entered the Relic Room until I checked out. They were so sure I was going to shoplift! I might understand if I was looking at valuable merchandise. The security guard followed my husband the entire time while he browsed. He wondered if it was because we had on coats? It was raining and cool that day so everyone had on coats or hoodies! I went ahead and made my $20 purchase but my husband said he wouldn't buy anything even if they were giving it away.
