Imagine for a second that the California DMV ran a golf course... Welcome to Mulligans Creekside…read moreGolf Course! Absolutely the worst experience I've ever had at a golf course! Huge disappointment! The hostess was extremely bitchy and annoyed by our request for a cart and to purchase beer that was for sale behind the counter. This resulted in the "club pro" arriving decked out in his camo cargo shorts asking if, "we had a problem." He was clearly a real tough guy peacocking for the 17-year old working the counter--super creepy vibe. Suffice to say, this is not how you want to start a round of golf. The icing on the cake was being admonished to "keep up with the pace of play" as we walked out of the "clubhouse." For those still reading, the pace of play ended up being 3 hours to play 9-holes. The course was overcrowded with multiple sets of golfers waiting to tee off on each hole. I don't normally write Yelp reviews. In fact, this is my first. That's how unprofessional and alarming this customer experience was for my family. Mulligans Shits Creek is a dump operated by teenagers and a middle-aged pervert. Stay away.

They have two courses, of which I played the "Haunted House" course. Their whole setup is based on these annoying (and wasteful) plastic cards. So even for mini golf, they had to sell me a card with the appropriate value loaded on it, then walk me out to the golf hut, swipe the card, and give me the equipment. And she didn't seem too thrilled about it either. But she did helpfully inform me that the cards cost $0.25, so if I ever wanted to come back, I should hang onto it. I did my best to turn my automatic smirk into a polite smile. And for rural Utah, the course wasn't worth $6.50. Unimaginative, poorly maintained (even for mid-March), and too easy. I shot four under par, if you don't include the three mulligans that I took because the rubber tee mats were bowed and caused my ball to skip. They have a little food area too with pizza, burgers, etc, but take the kids instead to Arctic Circle on Washington Street.

We found Mulligans on Yelp and all agreed this place looked like our best option. After paying $8/ea, the employees working indoors directed us to the ball bag and putters and then we were off. There's two courses, a lighthouse and a haunted house course. They didn't look much different but we chose the haunted house. The scariest part of the haunted house course was trying to retrieve my wife's golf ball when it didn't come out of the pipe...who knows what critters were in there. The course was in good shape...smooth turf, no obvious damage to the unique features, etc. The plants, trees, flowers and other ambiance surrounding the course was also well manicured. The holes were interesting enough with a good mix of skill and luck. Mulligans also offers two short golf courses on the property (both 9 holes), a driving range and batting cages. The driving range looked like it had a lot of spaces and even a double-decker section to shade you from the sun (couldn't tell if it was open or not). My review is simply for the mini golf experience as we didn't try anything else, but it's always nice to see golf places for all levels of players...my kids would have loved to play a 9-hole course if we brought our clubs.

What a fun spot to try something a little different with your friends other than go out to eat or…read moredrink. I don't think it was a Monday night special, we were able to play both mini golf courses for $8/person. Some of the holes were super challenging and I could see myself coming back again to try it. It seemed like they were actively working on some of the obstacles so, it will probably change and improve over time. This is a great low stakes outdoor activity for people that want to get a little sunshine with little effort. I only have 2 very minor complains. The first is that the food stand wasn't open when we went there around 2pm on a Monday, but no worries, there was lots of food in the area. We ended up getting food nearby and coming back to finish our game. There's tons of picnic tables around, so they're probably cool with people packing a picnic. We will probably just plan on doing that in the future. Also, when we first showed up, there were TONS of kids, which was a little annoying. They were climbing all over the features and they were impatient with the groups ahead of them on the course. When we came back from grabbing food, around 5, it was way quieter. So my advice if you want to avoid the kids is to come around dinner time or maybe first thing in the morning. We think we accidentally showed up when kids had just gotten let out of school. I could see this place being super busy on the weekends. We will totally come back when we're looking for a cheap activity with friends. They have lights all around, I could see this being a super cute little date night activity too!

And then the cherry on top was when we took our toddlers to turn in their tickets for prizes. It's already an absolutely ridiculous scam: you pay like $50 to play games that earn your kids like $5 of stupid cheap plastic prizes. But that's an established practice: we all know the drill. Where it really went south quickly is when the girl behind the counter gave my kid a cheap little parachute toy, I opened it for him at the counter, and it was clearly broken. Then I casually said "can you replace this since it's broken?" And the girl told me she needed to get approval. I thought she was joking. We're talking about replacing a 5 cent crappy toy that we heard just earned with like $10 worth of credits. But no, she said she wasn't allowed to do anything about it until she got approval. So we sat there and waited for like 5 minutes for her supervisor to have a free minute to tell her she was allowed to replace a cheap little plastic toy that was broken when it was handed to us. Just to be clear, I don't blame the kids operating this place. This is clearly a management issue. All the kids working there are scared to do anything wrong. But sadly, penny-pinching isn't going to make this place successful.

Of the 4 mountains I hit in the Hakuba Valley, the longest trail at best went on for 7-10 minutes depending if you're cruising or bombing from the top to bottom. Park City Mountain side of this resort from the highest blue trail down to the bottom, I feel, could clock a good 15 minutes bombing it, or 20+ just cruising down. Is it harder on my legs to do longer trails? Most likely. Do I spend less time on lifts? I didn't care to calculate the difference lol. I thing I know is that I love the feeling of gliding endlessly over the soft snow, and Park City Mountain gives me that feeling without having to stop for a lift every 3 or 4 minutes. Deducting a star because food at American resorts is absolute TRASH vs what was available at the Japanese ski resorts... #380
