My school has a yearly event here and the two times I have attended, the staff and the facility are good. I like the venue spot for the food, DJ, dancing and the beautiful outdoors. We stopped here on my birthday just to hit a few balls on our way back to Sacramento. It was so nice and quiet. I would definitely come back here. I only gave it a 3 star because there are no tees on the driving range mats, so there were people using their own tees on the dirt. There was also no shade, so you're directly in the sun when its hot. Customer service was really good. The guy in the shop told us to let him know if we need anything. This course is a gem! It's beautiful! They have a great DRIVING RANGE. Range Balls are $5 for 30 / $10 for 70 / $14 for 105. I bought a beer in the shop when I purchased my tokens for my Range Balls. It wasn't super busy when I showed up around 5pm on a Saturday. It's peaceful out there. I'd recommend this place. PARKING: private parking lot with lots of parking. read more

This update is to thank the Grill for offering breakfast and lunch items a short walk from my home. I met a friend there for lunch yesterday and while the menu is very limited, it's served fresh. My friend had the fried chicken sandwich ($12) and I had the chicken and avocado wrap ($13.) Both came with French fries. This course is a 30 dollar course at best. The 70 dollars I was charged was not worth it at all. Fairways were burnt and dried out. Bunkers were mud holes and looked more like bomb craters than sand bunkers. Greens were decent but slow. About the only thing positive were the carts which were nice and comfortable. I played this course when it first opened. It was a nice track at one time. Sad what it has become. read more

I absolutely LOVE Wildhorse and it's staff, I spend a lot of time there golfing and practicing. The practice area's are awesome and so is the instruction by one of the Pros Duke Nicholls. Charlie, Mike, Taylor are Great people and are now considered friends. From the restaurant to the cart cleaner's they are all so nice and welcoming. The course is well maintained by an awesome team that are very polite at all times while doing there jobs. This course is challenging ,but fun. We had a nice day playing there on Tuesday.. not too crowded.. greens were good and the bunkers were not so good... they need fresh sand .

This course could be so much better. Almost all of the fairways were burnt out and at least half of the bunkers were missing sand and/or in really bad shape. The right greenside bunker on hole 18 had new sand but there was a hard concrete like substance just under the surface. My ball plugged in the face of the bunker and I gouged my club and nearly injured my wrist trying to explode out of the bunker. read more

Pros: Friendly pro shop staff, fun design with some drivable par 4's, reasonably well-maintained greens and fairways. Driving range is not bad either. Played for about $30 with a cart after 1 on a weekday. Cons: Course is in decent condition but far from perfect. Some soggy spots on the fairways, not very impressive bunkers, plus it appears that the locals who play here are allergic to fixing their ball marks. Wasps. Dozens of them, swarming my cart and the water coolers. To be fair it was a hot day so the bugs might have been a little more active than usual, but this was very annoying. Overall, this is a pretty sold course with reasonable rates. Most likely I would have a better experience playing in early fall or spring when it's a little cooler and there aren't quite so many bugs, which were frankly my least favorite part of playing here. read more

Honestly, never even set foot on a golf course until I moved to Sac! My boyfriend enjoys golfing and I didn't want to be cooped in the house all day so I tagged along. The course appeared well kept up. I'm not a professional or anything, but it was clean and mowed. There were giant ice water coolers placed around so you never ran out of something to drink and if you were hungry, they had someone that would bring food you could order. The clubhouse was nicely sized and included a small restaurant. The employees we talked were polite and smiling and seemed focused on making our time enjoyable. Although I didn't golf I enjoyed being in the sun and enjoying the peace and quiet. Sometimes, you just needs to put the brakes on your busy life and enjoy the simple moments. As a very busy and popular course in town, they all work hard to manage it well. Happy to have this course in town where we can play anytime. First arrived. No range balls and tee time was 11:20. Staff friendly though. Not their fault for short staff. I get that. On the 12 tee box a two some came up and asked to join our twosome and said sure. Played slow and they left on the 17th green. 18th hole we shots short of the green. No one waiting when we teed off but when chipping we had a threesome harassing us and when we we got to the green they yelled about f***ing time f***ing time. Me and my partner finished our putts and told them good luck finishing your hole and reported them. The staff were nice said that's unacceptable but couldn't do much because their group had 20-30 guys. So they would lose more money confronting them. Thought golf was a gentleman's sport. They never confronted us till halfway through the 18th. I'm a 24 handicap. Not great but ok. But never experienced this in my 20 years involved in golf. That's why I play late knowing better golfers play earlier. And we were on a 4.50 18 hole pace and even waited for the foursome in front of us on many homes on back 9. Worst experience on the course and range. read more

My son, wife and I came today to Wild horse golf club to eat lunch and watch the PGA golfs final round on TV. My wife and I drove from Santa Rosa as was our sons birthday and he's at UC Davis. This 5 star review was for the service we received from the young man who served the bar, cooked all the food and then served. He was solo helping several golfers as they came and went, cooking hot dogs, burgers and everything on the extensive menu. He kept a great attitude under pressure which made our decision to come here a great experience. Also the food he brought to our table was cooked to order and simply delicious! Management you have a gem and are fortunate to have someone like him representing Wild Horse. read more

Best golf course in Davis!!! While it may not be cheap, it is properly maintained, gps carts, beer delivery on request, and a fun atmosphere. The course is challenging, which is fun and you definitely get more playing time than the cheaper courses in the area. I will be back many more times! read more

This place is over priced and they fail to follow their own rules!! I played today and the marshall would let people start on the back nine. In the rules it states that only groups of 4 are allowed, well not today. Several groups of 5 started on the back 9. which caused a huge wait time. The marshall at this course is useless! My friends and I will never use this course again!!! read more

Drove from Roseville to play this course. My foursome decided to give it a shot. Pros: Very nice pro shop guy in the early morning. Cons: Saw the marshall one time on front nine but he was useless and would not keep the groups moving. Back nine took 3 hours for a total 5 hour round. This course was not packed at the time. Cart girl passed us up 2x so no drinks to be had. Course is boring and in okay shape. Definitely not worth the drive. read more

The 18 holes here are pretty good, definitely has some hazards, so be prepared. Also bring your patience, if you come during a time when the high school golf teams are there. Also consider playing twilight, because it will be pretty cheap. (I booked online once, and got it for something like $23 including a cart!) Being Davis, if you're familiar with the area at all, during the summers it is BLAZING HOT, so bring sunscreen. Then the bugs start to come out when the sun starts to set, so bring your bug repellent. read more

The course design is alright, but Wildhorse is a double-bogey in the other areas. Range balls were old and worn, putting green was in very bad shape, chipping area was very nice, the carts are very loud, customer service is non-existent, marshals love to drive right by you as your hitting, but the worst thing were the bunkers. Wildhorse needs to spend a lot of time and money redoing their sand traps. Most of the traps have no sand in them or consist on hard pack and rocks. Everyone in my group (all of which were single-digit handicappers) skulled shots out of the traps. There was no way to play out of them that involved skill. Wildhorse has a lot of work to do for me to come back. read more

Played 5/18/16 at noon. Love the challenging layout and tough narrow tee shots. Cooked food was good, but $2.75 for m&ms?! Damn junior! They're flirting with the idea of switching holes 1 and 10. This was inconvenient, wasted time, confused other golfers, lacked signage, and had no benefit that I saw. This is a poor idea and management should forget it. The other reviews mentioning lack of cart service, dated facilities, and no marshals are correct. This review is 3 star because of poor upper management and policy. The employees are cool though. Hole switching for #1 and #10 is nonsense, they won't book singles over the phone, and there's no 9 hole fee. #if you're already in the area and feel like playing, go ahead and play here. Wild Horse Golf Club was an nothing special to me. The green fee was $35. I even made my tee time 6 days in advance. The maintenance was like a $20 muni course. The design is challenging and the greens are unpredictable, but I expected more bang for my buck. The carts did not have GPS, there was not cart person going around to sell refreshments, and the place is a maze with the a lot of the holes having the greens to tees so far away. The food I bought from the clubhouse restaurant was pretty good though and fairly priced. I would have really liked this place had the fee been $20-$25. the price tag didn't match the amenities. I was guessing distance the whole time since I had never been there and no gps in the cart. That was the most I had ever searched for the 150yrd marker in one round in years. The place is ok but over priced. read more

I was in the area last week, and was looking for a good track that I have not played before. I jumped onto GolfNow, and stumbled upon Wildhorse. This course is nestled in North Davis, and when I pulled up at 9am on Sunday morning, the course was not busy and walked on by myself, which is unheard of on a weekend. The layout is pretty straight forward yet challenging, with both narrow fairways, and elevated greens. The fairways and greens are in good shape and the pin placements, at least the past sunday, provided some forgiveness, which allows you to be aggressive on approach (using the backs of greens as backstops) I walked but Golfnow offers some good deals, usually w/carts. Overall enjoyed the course and will play again when I'm back in the area read more

Decent course to golf at with decent greens. Narrow with lots of hazard zones make it challenging and fun. Tricky long and short greens can really trip up your handi cap. Will definitely come back. Their chicken sandwich is yummy. read more

Tee boxes decent Fairways, brown spots everywhere Bunkers are a joke. Either mud, bare, puddles or unraked for days. Greens...overwatered, slow, diseased. Pace of play, horrid. Pro shop likes to send people out on the back to jam up the course. We tee off in the dark to avoid this and then it's a cluster F on 10...with walkers. That's just pathetic. I gave this course many chances. No more... on second thought 2 stars is a little high. Not an enjoyable round at all. I wrote a review just before ownership changed and the manager actually wrote me back on here saying he was changing things up out there for the good. It was good for a while but now the only thing that stuck is the layout is correct now. Go to muni if you're set on playing in Davis...they have been consistent ever since I was a kid and actually gets better year by I see there's an automated response when there's a bad review. Wow. Course has a nice set up with visually interesting holes, and staff is friendly and helpful. But the course condition leaves much to be desired. The many sand traps are easily the poorest in the greater Sacto region, with standing water and/or the texture of a sidewalk - instead of rakes they should put out brooms and squeegies! And the edges of many fairways are hard-packed dirt, with no grass, which leads to awful lies and lost balls for shots that were barely off-line. Greens are decent. read more

After reading the rave reviews I was excited to find out about this place. Newly relocated to Davis, CA It only took two visits to this golf course to quickly learn that there are ALWAYS two sides to your experience. The first time I ventured over to Wildhorse I went to hit a bucket of balls. Kind of disappointed when at first approach I saw some pretty poorly maintained golf mats at each slip and no rubber tees to hit off for variety. Nonetheless, I have to say that experience was eventless you hit toward basically an empty dirt parking lot with a few isolated hills. Three days later I returned to attempt to fine tune my putting and chipping skills. The young lad who met me at the counter was pleasant and provided me a bucket of balls and since I had never been to their chipping or putting location and because there is no legend or map to perhaps show you I asked for directions. At that moment, the young lady who was helping me received a telephone call and said generically with a wave of her hand as she turned her back they're over that way you'll see them there is a path between them with a huge putting area on one side and the chipping area across from it. Off I went, walking down the cart path and rounding a corner seeing a large putting area with what looked like a high school golf class on it practicing their putting. Across the path (here is the problem) were some grass covered rolling hills with a large green in the center with two bunkers. I spotted two golfers finishing a chip onto the green, they holed their puts and within my earshot I heard one say to the other "can we practice again tomorrow?" Thinking that this must be the practice chipping area, I set my clubs down, grabbed a ball and chipped onto the green, putted twice and holed it. I then attempted to chip from the bunker, again putted twice and holed it and went back toward my clubs. All of a sudden, I see a little (approx. 5'5")guy running toward me he says "Oh no! you're not doing what you're doing here!" I asked "whats that?" he said "hey boss! get off my green!." I said first off I'm nobody's boss, and he charged toward me very aggressively, telling me "I told you get off my F'n green!" I walked back toward my clubs and said "you don't know me do not talk to me like that." He then noticed the bucket of balls near my clubs and said "oh yeah and YOU CAN'T EVEN HAVE RANGE BALLS PAST THE DRIVING RANGE!!" "You need to bring your own balls!." I said I'm telling you again you don't talk to people like that, I didn't know I thought this was the practice area. He said I don't give a F*&k get out of this area!" I went back to the counter and the young lady questioned why I was returning the full bucket. I told her what happened and she gave me a refund. read more

Wild Horse is a nice little course if you want to go somewhere other than Muni. It's definitely more challenging with a little bit of water, tough sand traps, and owls. It is a bit pricey though, even walking, but you're going to want to rent a cart to make good time for your round. The layout of the course leaves a little bit to be desired and you'll do a bit of back tracking. The course has always been in good shape when I've been around, except for the sand traps. They always seem to be solid dirt rather than sand. But hey, it's probably the nicest course in Davis, the most challenging for sure. read more

I love this course and whenever I can get a deal on a round i try and go. The driving range is nothing special but the carts are nice, the paths are well maintained, the holes are always well groomed and it offers many challenges. I am a average to meh golfer and I have a lot of fun on this course. And every experience i have had with the people there has been good. They never give me looks or talk down to me for using websites to get deals on a round of golf unlike some places. I live in sac and have no problem going out to this course to play a round because it is worth the trip. It is normally a little pricey so when u get a deal on the green fees take it cause it is very much worth it. read more

Decent layout, but the traps need work. Many are just hard dirt. Greens were in decent shape, but it would really help if people would fix their ball marks!!! Pace of play was good all day. This place has made a complete 180 since I was here last. Ended up playing early Sunday morning 1/6/18 and it was all great. -renovated clubhouse -guy in the pro shop was super friendly and accommodating -food was fantastic (try the blue cheese burger) -course was actually in great shape! Far exceeded our expectations. Greens and fairways were really really good -gps on carts now too A pleasant surprise all around and I'll definitely be coming back more often read more
