I was a little hesitant to go out first. My husband took me as a surprise for Valentines weekend. I don't normally like to see animals in captivity. But after going on the tour of 90 minutes I was able to understand all that the sanctuary does for these animals. Most of these animals come from other people who have kept them as pets or who have not kept good care of them, so this is a safe place for them. I was so honored to get to see so many animals being cared for with respect, and get to meet the people who volunteer their time to give comfort to these animals. The best part is that all the proceeds go directly to the animals' care and welfare. It's not like other places where a percentage will go to the employees. At this sanctuary the proceeds go straight back to the animals. If you're an animal lover like me I would recommend going! read more

This is definitely a must if you're in the area. If you like to learn about wildlife and just love to see typical animals that were in the zoo this is the place to be. We really are happy to have found and enjoyed going to the Sanctuary. It was so much better than going to a zoo. You can watch the animals up close. The animals are not stressed., which is why the animals readily cane up to the cage for our guide to give them treats of raw meat. We were able to hear the animals sounds. From the growling of the panther, to the grumbling of the tigers to the squawking of the ostrich. You can tell that the volunteers really love and care for the animals. There is no paid staff. Just the love for the animals. All animals were given up by people. One such owner, had to give up his Lemur and regularly volunteers to give back for them taking in his Lemur. He said he feels very happy about it because his Lemur now lives with a hugh Lemur family and even has a girlfriend!! Suggestions to bring bug spray as you are in very wooded environment. We are just heading out and it was a really great experience...I have worked with marine mammals at a research center and I could tell by our tour guides (all volunteers) that these animals are well cared for and loved. The information was very interesting and they took pictures for the crowd by putting each persons camera in the cage so the pictures were without any metal fencing.... I highly recommend a visit and even feel that through Groupon the price for up to 6 people ($20) is way too low....I would have gladly pay more to keep this place up and running cause there are so many idiotic people that think having a Panther etc. as a pet is something they can handle and when they realize they cannot there are places like this to allow the animals to relax and grow old in comfort and safety read more

I was a little unsure what to think when I pulled in but the guides were very genuine and knowledgeable about the animals. I got to see them feeding which was amazing. The guides took some great pictures for us. Make sure you bring sneakers and bug spray. I would suggest going during feeding time if you can. Donate if you can as well they need it! There were no interactions with the animals which is a good thing. They seem to really care for the animals and answer any and all questions people may have. My whole family enjoyed our visit to the Wildlife Survival Sanctuary in Spring Hill. The tour guides were wonderful - they knew everything about each animal, they told how each animal came to the Sanctuary, and whatever questions the visitors had, they knew the answers. The guides are passionate about giving each animal the best care possible. I highly recommend this Sanctuary for people of all ages. This is a smaller version of Tampa's Big Cat Rescue. Besides cats, there are big birds like Emu's and an Ostrich, a pot belly pig, Lemurs and such. Private tours by appointment only. All donations keep these animals safe. Tour is 90 minutes. The girls there are very sweet and answer all questions. read more

So glad we came. Everyone in our group loved it. Wonderful young volunteers who love the animals. We noticed how healthy the animals look compared to other places, particularly the tigers. One lemur even surprised the staff when she had babies a year ago - so you know they take great care of the animals. We got up close photos of the big cats. We had a little trouble finding the place after bowman rd. See the tip. They had a few domestic animals that ran around that helped to keep our little ones busy so they didn't fuss as much when they couldn't pet the other animals. read more

This is a really nice place to go. They take great care of the animals and are run on donations only. They have big cats, tortoises, emus, iguanas, lemurs, smaller wildcats and a pig. Our family of 12 ages 10-63 visited today & everyone loved it! The entire volunteer staff of tour leaders are very friendly, extremely knowledgeable about all the beautiful animals. We could tell the love & devotion the staff have for these animals. The animals are humanly treated & seem very comfortable in their surroundings. We were able to get close enough to see the animals without ever feeling threatened. I would recommend a tour to all ages. read more
