Unbelievably good salmon tacos with bright flavor from the avotillo sauce. The poutine was extremely salty though, and the prices were pretty high.

Listen, I'm sure Tacofino is delicious, but is it 1.5hrs more of your time delicious than Wildside....oh hell nah! Wildside is seriously goooood, fresh seafood. We went with the grilled halibut burger ($17) and worth every looney. If you get the fish tacos you can get the surf n turf sampler of Baja style (fried cod), salmon & carnitas in one order which I highly recommend. Plenty of outdoor seating including in the back.

Grab some hot chowder or gumbo, tacos or fish and chips, well why not everything and head to the beach?! Quick tips and menu items we ordered: - Quicker line up than Tacofino - Cash only though so come prepared - Saw people talking about oysters on here but never saw them on the menu *sad face - Fish Tacos ($15) tempura battered cod, mixed cabbage, avotillo, chipolte mayo topped with salsa crude and lime - Cod 2 piece ($17) with housemade tartar sauce, coleslaw and fries I've heard great things about their Gumbo, but we opted for fish tacos and fish and chips, because it just seems like the thing to do! It was about $40~ dollars for 3 tacos and 2 piece fish and chips and a kombucha but the quality of our food was great and tasty. Portion size good.

Great fish and chips. I had the 1 piece cod and fries. Very flavorful and more than enough food for dinner. The fish was fried nicely - not greasy and the fish was still flaky. The complimentary cucumber and lemon water is a nice touch. Overall, a great place for dinner.

    Oysters and chips

Beware of the crows! haha. As a fan of oysters I had to see what the deal was with the fried oysters & chips. Very LARGE oysters, about 5 pieces with yummy fries. Oysters were cooked great, quite crispy. Coleslaw was alright. The tartar sauce with the regular cod fish & chips I found was better, taste wise. There wasn't really much drink selection i.e. cola etc. The seating is outdoors with semi covered picnic tables. The crows in the parking lot here do lurk so dont leave your food unattended!

Gumbo & Chowder. Worth trying both!

Not fancy & good value for the flavor, ingredients and portion size. Lots of locals. Food is pickup or dine in this cute outdoor picnic tabled grotto (with umbrellas). The guys who run it have a fun, upbeat vibe that makes this place feel legit. Gumbo & clam chowder are both tasty and complement each other. Gumbo is full-bodied, like a red wine; chowder is lighter like white. When in doubt, get 'em both! $6 half cup or $11 full. I splurged & got full cups and it's too much for this hungry man! (Maybe do 1.5 cups if you're hungry)

2-piece Salmon fish & chips (right) and Cod fish & chips (left)

I ordered their Cod and Salmon fish & chips. Both were Panko breaded & fried with large portions. Both fishes were still moist but the salmon was my favourite! The fillet was beautiful with even fatty layers. The crunchy panko coating complimented the salmon fish the best. I prefer the traditional flour coating that other places (like Red Fish Blue Fish in Victoria, BC) do for the cod better. Love the green apple slaw. Generous with 2 small containers of tar tar sauce. The fries were crispy and golden with a salty seasoning. On the side of the ordering window, there's 2 jugs of cucumber or lemon infused water that you can help yourself to, a hand wash station ready, and a condiment & utensils tray. There's lots of sunny & shaded seating available. Make sure you keep you receipt to get 10% off at chocolate tofino !

Fried Oyster Burger ($15), Fish 'n' Chips ($23 for 3 pcs), and Chowder ($11 for full)
    Michelle W.

Simply the best. I have only been to Tofino twice and both times, I have gone to Wildside Grill (to the point where I had it two days in a row on my second trip). Their fried oyster burger is a must order item. Paired with their fish 'n' chips and/or their chowder, you will be in seafood heaven. FRIED OYSTER BURGER ($15): Perfection! There are 2 fried oysters (though there may have been 3 for my first trip) packed inside of a sweet brioche bun, along with lettuce, tomato, red onion, and a delicious sauce. Both the oysters and the fries on the side are fried beautifully: crunchy exterior, soft interior, and minimal oil residue. The oysters in particular are so plump and the meat is creamy with just the right amount of that brininess I love so much. Unfortunately, I did find a piece of hair in my fries last time, but by then, I had scarfed down most of my meal and also couldn't be bothered. FISH 'N' CHIPS (Ling Cod) ($13 for 1 pc or $17 for 2 pcs): The batter for the cod is great and helps the cod to hold up its shape, bite after bite. I think the cod this time may have been a touch overcooked, but it was still flaky and delicious nonetheless. Like the oyster burger, this too is served with fries. There is also the option to add another piece of fish for $6/pc. CHOWDER ($6 half, $11 full): When I think of chowder, I think of this Boston-style white chowder brimming with chunks of seafood (cod, salmon, and baby shrimp), in addition to bacon, corn, and potatoes. Had it been served hotter, it would've been up there with the fried oyster burger. Given that Tacofino is on the same lot, there isn't much of a concern with lineups here. If I'll be honest though, I think people should spare themselves the wait and come to Wildside Grill instead: it offers a variety of mouthwatering dishes with fresh, high-quality seafood at a reasonable price. (However, I also don't like lineups, so the current situation works out perfectly for me.) In terms of seating, it may be hard to find a table without people or bird poop, but this is a minor downside to the incredible food here. Two thumbs up!!! PS: Wildside Grill, please consider opening another location in Victoria and/or Vancouver!

This family-operated establishment radiates an infectious, lively energy that immediately transports you to a quintessential beachfront eatery. Stepping inside, the first thing you notice is the captivating ambiance. The air hums with the joyful melodies of 1950s rock and roll, music that has an uncanny knack for putting a smile on everyone's face. Then, you're likely to be greeted by Big Daddy himself - a true master of his domain. His extensive knowledge of every menu item and the fresh, locally-sourced ingredients that go into them is genuinely impressive and adds a personal touch to your ordering experience. Their specialization spans an irresistible trio: succulent seafood, mouth-watering burgers, and perfectly crafted chicken sandwiches. My friend, Don, and I placed our orders and found a cozy spot, eagerly anticipating the buzz of our pager. When our food arrived, brought to us by a wonderfully cheerful and polite kitchen assistant, I was genuinely astonished. The sheer generosity of the portions and the impeccable presentation were truly a feast for the eyes. I indulged in a phenomenal chicken sandwich, generously topped with a crisp, homemade apple coleslaw and a creamy, tangy dressing. Accompanying this masterpiece were some of the freshest, most perfectly golden-brown French fries I've ever tasted. Don opted for a hearty serving clam chowder served with delicious house bread and a refreshing side salad. Each bite was a testament to the quality and passion Big Daddy's puts into their food. Our entire experience, from the warm welcome to the last delicious morsel, was nothing short of fantastic. Besides the fish, there was also a heaping of slaw and arugula on the burger. It was delicious - the fish was tender and flaky and the slaw was really good. The bun didn't fall apart even with a ton of stuff on it. The fries were standard shoestring fries and they were kind of greasy. I got a side of habanero hot sauce to dip them in and that was pretty good. It had a decent kick but not extreme heat. Dips are kind of pricy at $1.5-2 for a small cup, but ketchup is free at the tables. While the food wasn't lightning fast, it took less time than I expected to get my entree after ordering given that they seemed busy, and my dessert came out very quickly. I had: Foragers martini: This tasted exactly as you would expect from the name. Spruce-flavoured anything was not actually in the ingredient list, but I would describe the flavour of the cocktail as "sprucey". It was pleasantly strong. Grilled wild sockeye salmon: My first thought was that this was a small portion for the price, but the huge plate was deceiving and this was actually a very satisfying serving with a large cut of salmon and a healthy heaping of farro salad. The salmon was cooked perfectly - I loved how the skin got crispy and flaky. The farro salad was hearty and delicious on its own or with the salmon, and the pickled fennel and the orange coulis were interesting compliments to enhance the dish. Chocolate basque cheesecake: I was going to choose this anyway, but my waitress also recommended it. This was a great basque cheesecake - rich with a slightly burnt crust. The candied hazelnut brittle totally elevated it. The slice was big enough to share, but it was really good and surprisingly not too heavy, so I finished it by myself easily. It was so expensive though... I was staying at the hotel so I got 10% off food, and even then I spent $80 after tip! I knew it was going to be expensive and decided to treat myself since it was my last night in Tofino, but I think without the 10% I would've gone somewhere else anyway. Even with the whole "elevated" thing and acknowledging that the food and drink was not at all what I would consider typical sports bar food, it felt so bad to spend $80 on one person at a place calling itself as a sports bar.
