We make a pilgrimage to Tofino once or twice a year and it would not be complete without a trip to Wildside Grill. This place has a great selection of burgers, tacos, fish and chips etc. Portions are generous and we are positively stuffed after eating a burger and fries. Some recommendations: Call ahead to order so you don't have to stand out in the rain waiting. If you are order fish taco's (or even have your heart set on a particular item) CALL AHEAD to ensure that they have it in stock. Ingredients are kept fresh by buying only what they need that day so check to see that they haven't had a run on your favorite item to avoid disappointment. For the first time in all the times we have visited the wildside grill the experience was less than stellar. Our fish was so overcooked it was dry. The fries were shrivelled and the coleslaw sloppy wet. What a disappointment !! I am sure it is a one off but yuck! We will be back because it is usually so so good but again what a huge disappointment. read more

The grill's credit card machine went down, we were told that the order would be put through and just to wait, and about thirty minutes later as my two year old was getting even more restless because he had not had his dinner and another person was served before us, we were finally told that we could not be served because of their machine being down. Don't miss this place!!! A small shack tucked away in a drive in kind of place with a few more cafes around. One of the freshest and best fish tacos I have ever had. There are not many choices for food in Tofino but this small little shack will be a good to go place. I had half a cup of chowder. It was filled with salmon and loads of other goodies. Has the perfect creamyness and saltiness and was surprisingly filling for a whole meal. We tried the cod fish and chips. The cod was thick and fresh and my hubby loved the pulled pork tacos. Excellent fast food seafood. My wife had the cod fish n chips and the fries were super fresh and perfectly salted and her cod was fresh and not super greasy. I personally prefer a flakier batter, this place makes a crispier one but it was still quite good. I had the gumbo and it was amazing. Tons of a flavour without being too spicy (my wife is very sensitive to spice and she had a few bites of mine and loved it - so not too spicy). I also ordered a ceasar salad and the homemade croutons were a amazing. Service was excelled but since the food is prepared fresh it does take a little longer than traditional "fast food". I would say we waited about 7-10 minutes for our food. Portions are quite large and neither of us could finish our meals. Would definitely come back! read more

Fantastic "roadside stand" just outside of Tofino town. My family and I eat here twice during our trip an were blown away each time. Quite possibly the best Cod Fish & Chips I have ever eaten - cod was lightly battered then crusted in panko bread crumbs before being deep fried to tender perfection, crunchy on the outside, tender flaky perfectly cooked fish inside - fabulous! We heard that the fish tacos were amazing at Wildside so as a Southern Californian (home of the fish tacos) I set out to see what the fuss was about. Be prepared. This is casual eating, where you order from a window and sit outside in the lovely garden to eat your food. We had grilled salmon (the menu only mentions fish and chips, but you can get the fish grilled instead of battered, just ask), a divine gumbo that tasted more like chowder, and lingcod fish tacos. We went here twice during our stay in Tofino and both times were amazing. The fresh albacore tuna burger and the salmon burger. Both are highly recommended, though I personally liked the tuna more. You can substitute the fries for poutine for an extra $2, which is totally worth it. Also had the gumbo poutine, but prefer the regular poutine. read more

A friend recommended this place. I was a bit surprised when it wasn't a traditional restaurant or cafe. Its a walk up window with outside seating ( that is covered from the elements but not heated). The folks at the window were friendly. They had lots of yummy options, fish tacos, fish and chips, coleslaw, chowders, sandwiches and more. My friend had the salmon burger it had a beautiful piece of fresh fish on it ( was not ground up like a burger) that was delicious. I had the halibut fish and chips. I got two pieces and believe it was 20 dollars. I personally like beer battered fish and chips and this had more of a bread crumb type batter. The fish was good but the coating didn't do it for me. I also thought the menu was all a touch overpriced for being a walk up window. It was one of the more reasonably priced places to eat around Tofino. I'd recommend it to anyone in town. The chowder was absolutely delicious, very rich. You can't eat too much of it but great for sharing. The chicken burger is very tasty but messy. You need lots of napkins. Would definitely go back and try some of the other menu items. My stomach is just not big enough to order more than one item. read more
