I remember research about dentists and how dishonest they are en masse. Researchers got an accurate dental evaluation, and went about getting evals from dentists to see how honest they were. The research result was the only reliable place to get dental care is the instruction colleges. These are certainly inexpensive, and likely superior in the latest methods of care, but scheduling is highly inconvenient and bureaucratic. I am an optimist. There is always an exception, and I only needed one dentist. My new dentist's office manager told me that I had to have two crowns done, and they needed to be done at the same time. When questioned, the office manager told me that the reason I needed both crowns done was because that's the way they had always done it. Hmm.. I pay cash. I deserve better than that and I left. I took my husband with me. So if I only needed one crown, they couldn't do it? I HAD to have two crowns? No. No is a complete sentence. I do not take medical advice from an office manager. So my molar was essentially crushed with fractures deep down into the gum. We all wondered why I wasn't in incredible pain. This greedy dentist also tried to book me for a cleaning before doing the injured crown. What? I could not, and he advised me that I could develop pain and/or infection at any moment. I had no trouble believing him. I never heard any of that from the other man. The greedy dentist had no concern for any potential infection, no concern for getting me in immediately. I was told by the manager that I would have to wait for a cancellation. Really? You see, greed only harms your business "bottom line". The problem with greed is the greedy cannot make sense of prosperity and abundance mindsets because they are short-sighted. Greed also ruins the beloved "bedside manner", and the "bedside manner" helps prevent lawsuits in my opinion. So, they made unfortunate choices for their own safety with their patients. It is only a matter of time before consequences come to them, but not from my family. We left. This former Grass Valley dentist lost out on at least $3,000.00 worth of work between my husband and I because they are not Patient-centered. I have to admit, this is my 3rd dentist in Nevada County. The first touched my knee, and tried to "fix" lots of teeth in my head. I never needed so much dental repair in my life! My husband was furious. The second dentist's staff tried to "punish" me because I made myself late by getting stuck in their bathroom. Locked-in. I am so silly. The punishment was to omit my X-rays. I was glad because I dislike X-Rays, and the expense as well. That could have been managed differently. However, the unprofessional behavior is unacceptable. There, I was just another number. Impersonal, rude, and passive-aggressive hygienist but great dentist. We left there too. Haven't done the whole nine yards yet, but I popped a crown and didn't have a dentist established here. Read the reviews for Dr. Sheppard and his practice, gave them a call, and they got me in quickly. Crown was intact, so cleaned, re-cemented, had a 9:30am appointment and I was out the door by 9:44, with an appointment booked for full x-rays, cleaning, and consultation as to what needs I have and how to accomplish them. Great staff and Dr. Sheppard is fun and funny and at the same time direct and informative. For this dentalphobe? I think I've found my practice. Thank you, all of you, from Megan answering my initial call, the assistant whose name I failed to get (and I'm SO sorry) to Dr. Sheppard himself? I hope you know how special you are, but it's never a bad thing to keep on saying that. My last dental practice was Designing Smiles in Fremont, CA, and I don't think I'll ever find a place where I was that comfortable; they managed to give this dentalphobe a bridge and two implants. But this place is coming very, very close. And it doesn't hurt at all that it's exactly 1 mile from my house. read more

Had full service done here -- uppers and lowers with a few tricky situations of my own making, replacing cracked temporaries done out of country. Dr. Sheppard and the team -- especially Megan and Gina -- were really helpful and everything went as it should and I would highly recommend these guys. They put on a great act here, but then they ended up making all of my dental issues way worse with their incompetence and lack of compassion.... I went in because my tooth hurt ....but my tooth was actually cracked and so they filled the crack which magnified the pain to a level I've never experienced... When I went back the second time to ask for help and why I was such an extreme pain, the dentist just grinded the filling more which exacerbated the cracked tooth issue... As I'm writhing in pain for 4 days, I call for some sort of advice and I met with the most uncompassionate disrespectful answer... This dentists ego is so big, It's like he didn't want to admit he did something wrong and made everything worse.... I explained I have receding gums to the lady who cleaned up my teeth. Before I saw the dentist I said that I am extra sensitive because some of my roots are exposed and she proceeded to jab that area with a metal device so that I jumped out of my seat and then said I need to cap those essentially giving me dental advice without being a professional dentist... All in all, my experience with this office was extreme torture... The fact that they didn't notice a cracked tooth on the most common cracked tooth in human history tells you everything you need to know... And of course I'm out hundreds of dollars read more

Worst medical receptionist of all time. Beware if you call and Megan answers the phone. Also, Dr. Shepperd has extreme political views that he forces his patients to listen to. I just started going to this dentist a couple months ago and was very happy with my first visit. Last week I found myself in the most painful situation I've ever experienced with my lower teeth and after just coming in for one visit Dr. Sheppard got me in last minute before his day was over. We are so thankful to have found a fantastic dentist in Penn Valley! Honest, friendly and extremely helpful. They even corrected a bothersome tooth that a previous dentist couldn't or wouldn't fix. This is the first dentis that I am comfortable when coming in for an appointment, including fillings. Dr. Sheppard is a down-to-earth dentist who explains thing in ways that makes sense. He even took digital pictures on-the-spot to show me what he was talking about. Staff remembered more than just my name when I returned months later. They also remebered my family and kids as well. I have been going to this office since Dr. Sheppard took over the practice. The staff and doctor are warm, kind and caring people. The hygienists all do an amazing job. Having said all that, myself and several of my neighbors who have had dental work done have not had the best experiences. Three of us had to go back multiple times after filings, caps, etc., due to abnormal pain and discomfort. Dr. Sheppard did eventually correct the issues but I would prefer it done correctly the first time. If it was just me I would say sometimes things just go wrong but since everyone I know that had work done had the same issues I feel I should say something. I love everyone at the office but really want a dentist who does great dental work. read more

The best experience... ever! I have visited the Wildwood Dental office three times. The first time was for a consultation, the second time was for a cleaning, and the third time was for treatment. Each time, I was met with the most courteous staff I have ever experienced. And, folks, their warmness is genuine. I get the feeling they truly care for the well-being of their patients. As I sat in the waiting room (for a very short duration), I watched as they greeted each patient with a smile and welcomed them into the office. Their kindness shined through. Wow! Great doc, great staff, great experience. I have spent a lot of time in dental chairs over the years and this has been the best experience ever. I came in to have the last of my teeth removed for a bottom denture. The extractions were very easy and well done. After time to heal we started work on the denture. We hit a few rough spots requiring more time in the chair, but we kept working on it. Never did the doc vary from his fee laid out for me at the start. He even changed the company that was doing dentures for him. Perfection is his motto! You will not be regret the decision! I don't! read more

I needed to find a new dentist and had developed a toothache. I had heard good things about Wildwood Dental and they have a new patient discount, so decided to try them. I'm very happy I did. They were able to give me an appointment in 2 days, with complete xrays, cleaning and consultation. The receptionists were very friendly and helpful, Dr. Sheppard was very thorough and nice and Vanessa, the hygienist was awesome! Horrible office staff spent the time arguing between each other. I overheard one lady say to another to "Stop Bitching." When I walked in to tell them I was there, the Courtney lady just had an attitude and was not friendly at all, not even welcoming me in. I'm sorry but that is completely unprofessional. What if my children had been there to listen to the arguing amongst them (and the dentist who brushed past me in the waiting room to also argue with the receptionists). I never saw the dentist and my children who went on a separate visit also never saw the dentist. What's the point of visiting the dentist if you can't see one? I have traveled all over the world as a military wife and I've seen many dentists. This is by far the worst dentist I've ever been to and the most unprofessional one. The dentist in this office has subjected me to bigotry and hatred. When I refused to take bigoted comments about my country of origin this prejudiced person who should not hold a dental license had refused service and had thrown me out in the office when I countered his comments. In general, this individual had no interest and did not ask about my dental complaints, but had pried about my national origin from the start (which is none of his business) proceeding to comments about my home country and even touched upon religious subject, then escalated in general to mean and insensitive commentary that has no place in dental office setting. This unethical, horrendous "dentist" should not be allowed to run office. This person also subjected me to unnecessary radiation, which is damaging to my health, in the form of useless X-Ray (I have proof of this, 2 other dentists stated that this x-ray was useless), immediately prior to refusing me service.
