Excellent resort-style hotel without the resort prices. Highly recommend. Very good breakfast; well above what I typically expect. Pet friendly. Expansive rustic-themed lobby and dining area. Large indoor pool. Exceptionally pleasant service. Great value.

Shopping for hotels on a corporate travel website is a science. Once in awhile, I'll come across a gem like Wildwood Lodge that's a unique space at a reasonable price. When I arrived, there was plenty of parking. I quickly grabbed my bags and took shelter from the rain inside the lobby. It was late at night, but the front desk staff was courteous and efficient. I took more pictures of the lobby than I have at any other hotel I've stayed at. Such a cozy, well-decorated space. Loved my room too! Insert inappropriate joke about the paddles on the wall. The only downside was the squeaky ceiling from my upstairs neighbor. That and the fact that my in-room alarm clock was automatically set for 6am. NOOOO!!! Housekeeping, please turn this off. Hot, delicious breakfast with lots of options. Whether you want pastries or eggs, I always walked away satisfied and ready for the day ahead. I'd always bring my laptop down in the mornings to get work done while eating. Plus, coffee never seems to run out. Overall excellent value, especially for the price. And pet friendliness gets bonus points in my book.

If you are traveling through Iowa and need a good place to stay I would 100% recommend this hotel. We pulled up and I was so happy because we got this hotel through Hotwire and you never know what you're going to get. It had a very homey vibe and you felt like you were in the mountains. Our room was very clean and nice, our bed was comfortable. It was just my husband and I traveling, but if you have little kids I noticed they didn't have a bathtub so that would be concerning if we had little kids to bathe. I didn't see a pool, not sure if they have one but also if you have kids that's one thing you would want to check into. We had a complimentary breakfast with homemade biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs and sausage. They also had coffee and juice. Staff was very welcoming and friendly. Such a neat place to stay! We will stay here again if we get back to cute little Clive, Iowa!

Our second visit to Wildwood. A great experience. Front desk was polite and personable. We were greeted and had a warm welcome from staff. Once in the room, noticed immediately how clean the room was. The bathroom was just as clean. No major ware or tear like most places we stay. Bed was great. We both slept soundly and comfortably. No waking up with stiffness or back pain like we do most hotel stays. We stayed and enjoyed an amazing breakfast. It had great variety and was prepared in front of us so we knew it was fresh. We will definitely be back!!!'

What a great hotel! The husband and I are on a trip from breckenridge to chicago, and needed to stop for the evening and get some sleep. We googled nearest hotels, and this was had great reviews so we decided to check it out. I am so glad we did as it lives up to the 5 star reviews. A clean hotel, with a rustic cozy sort of woodsy feel. Nicely decorated, and a very friendly guy at the desk (Ron) greeted us warmly despite it being 2 am. Our room was nicely looked after, love the environmentally conscious signage everywhere. Reminds us that we share this planet, and to care for it even when our heads are in the clouds on vacation. Some cool decor thru out the rooms too, really liked the cabin feel and decorative paddles (see pic). The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was sparkly clean, and the vending machine in the hallway was a nice little bonus to get an ice cold bottle of water in the middle of the night. The breakfast definitely looked above and beyond a traditional continental, although we didn't get to indulge! Would be curious to find out exactly what they had. This was a great hotel, and a superb experience. Will definitely stay again if we pass thru Clive/West Des Moines. One note: previous person to stay seemed to spill coffee on the carpet , and you could def see the stain. Some stain remover wouldn't hurt- just glad we could identify what it was being right below the coffee pot :) no big deal to us - but another person might mind!

The room smells very bad like mildew. When we got undressed to go to bed, we noticed the floor feels damp/wet & gross. ***2nd message sent to the text service the next morning after I talked to the lady at the front desk: Even when your head of cleaning walked in, she said: "whoa!" As soon as she smelled the room right when we opened the door. I guess this is your way of fixing the wet nasty floor for guests?!?! At least she was sympathetic, because she knows no one should've been assigned this room; and brought us blankets so we wouldn't have to walk on a completely wet floor. Also; when we got back last night, the air was on the coldest setting, I put the temp all the way up to 75, it's still only 66 degrees in the room... so that's broken also! We definitely should not be paying for this crappy room. I am not happy at all. The night person shouldn't have ignored my texts. The person at the desk this morning, offered to put in a work order, that totally wouldn't help our situation this morning... very nonchalant and didn't care. When I started explaining our situation, she replied "oh yeah..." so she knows we had a problem and texted, but she said sometimes they don't do a good job at replying to texts at night. This is not good customer service at all. When I checked out, I re-explained my situation to another male at the front desk. He said he'd give my info to the manager when she gets in about a refund. I waited a whole week. No one had contacted me and no refund was refunded! Worse experience in a very long time!!! A. Taylor Omaha, Ne

The person who checked us in really had no interest in making us feel welcome; she was simply doing her job. We paid for a room with a fireplace - not that we were using a fireplace in August, but it provides more space - we got a room with a whirlpool tub. My husband enjoyed the company of a roach in the bathroom overnight. The shower curtain is on of those curved rods that pulls away from the wall after a while (no support in the center). The shower curtain wouldn't stay spread open while showering. There was a brown ring around the drain in the sink; it wasn't rust or lime, it is evidence of poor cleaning. The breakfast buffett is just like every other place, but the person maintaining the buffet never refilled anything. The oatmeal ran out an hour before breakfast ended and he just took the container away and didn't bring any more. The breads were down to five items and no replenishment. This is an hour before breakfast ended. The rooms have the HVAC systems that are loud, and the one in our room did not run properly. I read somewhere that this hotel had a hot tub..... it is now filled in with cement. While my husband and I were packing up to leave this morning, the cleaning gal "cleaned" three rooms around us; it only took about 30 minutes to pack up and leave. The Sales Manager asked me how our stay was, and she seemed interested, but her response, while kind, made me feel like she felt I might be exaggerating.

But once you leave that area and go down the hallway to the rooms, it's a different feel. The hallways are dark. Our room was fine. We got a two queen bed room which also had a pull out coach. It was spacious for us. The room itself needed lots of updates. The wallpaper was starting to peel, the bedroom half of the room was very dark, random light switch that didn't turn anything on or off. Plus sides - person at reception was very friendly both evenings. And location is great! Would I stay there again? It depends. If there was another hotel in the same area around the same price, I'd probably try the other hotel. If this was a lot less expensive, then I'd be okay staying here again.

For the price paid, basic housekeeping services should be a standard expectation, not something guests have to request or go without. What made the experience even more frustrating was the complete lack of housekeeping throughout my stay and the poor customer service at the end. My room remained untouched for days, trash accumulated, and there was no indication that anyone planned to service it. When my flight was delayed, I asked whether the hotel could accommodate me for a little longer. Despite having failed to provide even the most basic housekeeping services during my stay, there was no flexibility and no effort to assist. I understand that hotels have policies, but hospitality is about taking care of guests. The combination of neglecting housekeeping entirely and then refusing to work with a guest facing unexpected travel issues left an extremely poor impression. I left feeling like my business was appreciated only until checkout time. Overall, I cannot recommend this hotel based on my experience. Better housekeeping standards and more attentive customer service would go a long way toward improving the guest experience.

The room and breakfast…read morewere fine, but there are a few things I definitely take issue with and the last one is extremely important to me: 1) They said they only have housekeeping refresh the room every 3rd day. When did this start happening. Isn't it standard hotel procedure to refresh the room daily? 2) They slid my invoice under the room door very early in the morning (it was there when I woke up at 5:45am) on checkout day. I am not a fan of having my personal information slid under a door. All it takes is a tiny bit of human error and then someone has bits a pieces of my personal info and certainly enough to start charging items to the room. And my biggest issue of all ... 3) The "fitness center" is a complete joke and cannot be referred to as a fitness center. I don't expect very much out of hotel fitness centers, but this was a storage closet with 2 ellipticals, 2 treadmills and a dumbbell rack squeezed into a room the size of a closet. There wasn't even enough space to get down and do some push ups or sit ups. It's a complete slap in the face to anyone who books there and wants to get in a workout. I actually had to go seek out a gym in the area, and pay them, in order to get my workout in when I should have been able to do that at the hotel since they advertise a "fitness center." If working out is a priority to you, completely avoid this hotel.
