I've stayed 30+ nights a year with Marriott properties for business and have generally trusted the brand to take care of loyal guests when something unexpected comes up. Yesterday I had a job change and needed to cancel an upcoming stay. I reached out, explained the situation, and asked for any flexibility. The property declined and enforced the full late cancellation penalty of over $600. I understand policies exist. At the same time, loyalty used to come with some level of flexibility. That doesn't seem to be the case here at this property. Disappointing experience and will for sure not come back - the Jordan Creek Courtyard is super flexible though and it reminds me why I always go there. Remember folks - the decisions are always in the hands of the management and the team they train. If they want to, they will. If they don't, they won't. read more

This is a very good hotel. Rooms very clean. Restaurant and bar were very good. Friendly service. All the crap you would expect in a room (iron, ironing board, free wi-fi, desk, flat screen TV, coffee, etc.). Friendly service. TV allows you to access Netflix and other streaming services, using your account. Location is great if you are working/visiting West Des Moines. Not too far from the airport. Hotel is right off the freeway. Easy to get in, along with free parking. The exercise room was pretty decent. Only downsides 1) TV was HD but the content appeared in SD instead 2) You have to sign up for the Marriott rewards program if you want free wi-fi Other than those minor downsides, I would highly recommend this hotel. read more

I was in Des Moines for work and stayed at the West Des Moines Marriott for two nights. I was surprised by how pricey this hotel is - I think my company paid something like $229 a night which is crazy considering I stayed the two previous nights at the Wynn in Las Vegas for $239 per night. And sorry, but the West Des Moines Marriott has NOTHING on the Wynn! First of all, the lobby area is nice but the hotel is starting to show it's age. The first thing I noticed about my room was that it smelled a little funky. Kind of sweaty, like a locker room. Other than that, I found it clean and comfortable enough. There was some noise during the day though from maintenance or construction. Internet is an additional $10/day, unless you are a Marriott elite member. The biggest ripoff though had to be the buffet breakfast for $16. It was a total joke, I had to make my own freakin waffles!! The hotel is conveniently located near a lot of businesses so I can see how it would be appealing. At the same time, there are also many other hotels within a few miles. Next time I'm in Des Moines, I think I'll try out a different place! read more

I venture to Des Moines about once every 2 to 3 years. Pleased with this hotel. Comfortable king sized bed, hotel as restaurant indoors as well as a bar. McDonald's right next to the hotel and some other fast food places not far away. Cleaning staff professional always nice having someone else make your bed. Tvs in the restaurant area of hotel!! Room is comfortable and clean. The work desk area is a nice size, which I appreciate when on business travel. Nice size TV that can be used as an additional monitor if you have the appropriate cord. Room service until 11pm, which is great! Enjoyed a reception in one of the conference rooms downstairs and that was nicely done. When I checked in I was warmly greeted by the young lady at the counter and the ride from the airport in the complimentary shuttle was equally warm. The only feedback I have is 1) more clearly mark your van so it's quite obvious that it's the Marriott shuttle and 2) the addition of a safe in the room is really necessary if your clientele are largely business travelers. A refrigerator and microwave would be a bonus. read more

I am beyond disappointed with this Marriott. I checked in on July 22nd 2020 for 3 nights and the morning of July 23rd I had what appeared to hives/rash from an allergic reaction to the whatever is now being used to clean the rooms post Covid. The morning of July 24th I woke up with very itchy red marks all over my body with the exception being where I had on underwear. I stopped by front desk on my way out and explained that I must be allergic to the sheets and would like a new room when I returned that evening. I ended up having to leave my conference early due to discomfort from the itching. The urgent care then told me I in fact was covered in Bed Bug bites!!!!! I got back to the hotel and told them I want to check out early and showed them my arms and said I would be down after I packed my belongings. When I returned they said they will refund me 1 night stay and have a nice day. I was in such awe that I just left. I spent over 120 nights at Marriotts last year and I have never been treated this way. I called my Ambassador and they told me I would have to wait 5 days for resolution. I had to throw away my suitcase, computer bag, and shoes as they couldn't be laundered at the temp required to kill them. read more

We were forced to stay here because the hotel where we had our reservation screwed us over. The place is clean but feels dated somehow. The rooms are pretty big, I especially appreciated the bathroom. And even though we were on the first floor, it was pretty quiet. There was s a bar and my husband got a Corona-- for $7! We decided to order room service breakfast using a card they provided. Unfortunately, that was a very subpar experience. The menu bragged about their toast, apparently from some local bakery with "whipped butter." It was two slices of dry white, cold toast with a packet of Land O Lakes buried underneath. That was $4.50! The tea, which would be presumed to be hot in the morning, was iced! The orange juice was served in a plastic bottle with no glass. The menu had said it was "fresh" which would imply fresh squeezed juice but it was Simply Orange. The breakfast option with cereal was $11 and was supposed to come with toast. It didn't. We ordered the breakfast to arrive between 9-9:15 and it came at 8:40, waking us up. Also, forget about free WiFi- it's $9.95 unless you are a "BonVoy member who booked direct." Overall, the place is clean and the employees are friendly and polite but the hotel is overpriced for what it offers. read more

Best hotel I have ever stayed in. Top notch service. Comfortable bed and huge rooms. Amazing food (room service only at the moment due to covid). The gym far surpasses expectations for a hotel. It has cables, dumb bells to 75 lbs, leg press, lateral pull, chest press, and more than ten cardio machines to include spin bikes and a stair stepper. The pool is in superior condition and is equipped with brand new, high quality furniture on the deck. Even more, this location is unbelievable - only 5 minutes from sushi, BBQ, and pub food. Plenty of parking and lots of grassy areas for pets to walk and play. You will love it here!!! read more

We are traveling cross country and a major thunderstorm forced us to pull over for the night. Although the room was nice and the price reasonable, the lobby and restaurant area was filled with unsupervised, loud, and screaming children. Evidently there's a huge birthday party for a 1 year old going on & all of the parents are in a banquet room while the children are running rampant. I believe it is the responsibility of the hotel staff to keep the party contained in the banquet room and not allow the children to run amok. Attempting to have a nice meal in the restaurant area is akin to being at Chuck E Cheese on steroids. I will not be stopping at this Marriott on my way back through Des Moines. read more

I recently stayed here for a wedding. It was nice having a block of rooms so that most of the wedding party was on the same floor. The room was nice and clean. It was a typical hotel room but does not come with a refrigerator or microwave. You can request one if you need it. A coffee maker is provided in the room and there is a desk area if you need to get work done. There is a complimentary shuffle that will take you to and from the airport. I would recommend calling the shuttle once you get your luggage and making an appointment for your checkout date as the shuttle only has limited seats. You need to pay for the WIFI but if you are a SPG it is complimentary. You just have to accept the charges when you connect and then they remove it before you checkout. There is a McDonald's next door if hotel food isn't your thing. There is also a little hotel store that has a few drinks, snacks, and some essentials if you forgot anything. There is an inside pool area with a hot tub. The gym is small but has all the necessities for a good workout. read more

The rooms are typical Marriott - beds are comfy, bathroom is clean, and the TV is huge. We have two complaints. First, the upstairs lounge is closed on the weekend. Second, even though we had our privacy hanger on the door, cleaning services knocked on our door three times and kept incessantly tapping (and even opened the door one time) before we could even get up and walk to the door which is only a couple of feet. We stayed here due to the 2 Marriotts in downtown Des Moines being full. It is very conveniently located right off the highway, with ample parking. Checking in and out could not have been more of a breeze, and the room was very spacious and luxurious. (one slight issue: I had requested extra pillows and towels, which we did not get). But the room was very clean, the bathroom was well-lit, and everything worked - like the TV, A/C and hot water. We took advantage of the breakfast buffet in the main dining room. There was a pretty nice spread including a guy who custom made omelets and waffles for you. They were a bit stingy on the coffee, as a huge carafe placed in front of us only yielded a cup for each of us (2). We probably could have asked for more if we had more time and wanted it though. But, really, all in all Marriott runs a good show and you will be pleased. read more

I'm a stickler for consistency, however being consistent was no plus for this hotel stay. We were disappointed from the moment we turned into the parking lot (not even stepping foot inside the hotel) through the next morning. I booked two rooms, one for me and another one for my parents who were visiting from Alabama. They had a long drive and were very tired. Both are senior citizens and I just cannot believe that the hotel would have inconvenienced us the way that they did. We had to cut our stay at Adventureland short this day because my father had experienced an issue with his pacemaker. We decided to immediately go to the hotel so that he could rest. Upon arriving and turning into their parking lot, we immediately noticed that some type of event was going on in their parking lot. There were a bunch of old cars. I have no problem with these types of events, but perhaps they don't belong at a hotel with a small parking lot. We had two cars, two senior citizens and lots of bags and yet it was difficult to locate two parking spots. I dropped off my parents at the door of the lobby but then I had to then park each car separately one at a time. Not only were there old cars taking up parking spaces, but there were trucks and trailers that carried the cars there and there were people "camping out" in some of the empty spaces with their lawn chairs. I eventually found two spots way in the back, far away from the hotel lobby. I then had to make several trips to get out luggage to the rooms. The rooms were fine. Standard Marriott rooms. I absolutely love the lamps next to the beds. I would love to have a couple for myself, however the $325 (each) price tag is too expensive for my budget. The next morning the consistency continued. We had pre-ordered room service for breakfast. It arrived on-time which was great because we were on a tight schedule. However the food, for the most part, was uneatable. My first bite into the scrambled eggs and I encountered a foreign object. I'm not sure what it was. I had to spit it out in the trash can and I just could not eat any more. I did enjoy the bacon and toast. My parent's room lacked any bathroom towels. This really affected our schedule. Overall, the hotel was consistent. Too bad it was such a negative experience. I have stayed at this hotel a couple of times previously and did not experience such a negative experience as this one. read more

Ok- first the staff was great, very helpful and friendly. All of them. The hotel was awful- don't let the nice lobby fool you- it's old , smells, and just needs updating. The hallways remind me of the shining. I had to switch rooms after the first night due to the horrible smell- like sewer back up. The staff again- so very helpful and nice. The hotel is also right next door to a motel 6- not a huge deal but still not what I expected- the hairdryer barely worked and had to be purchased in 1970- there was a huge cricket in my room - he had to die- the toilet paper is one ply and so awful- the towels are something that you would use to dry your car-finally the mattress was hard as a rock and the pillows were a joke-So very uncomfortable! I wouldn't stay there again. read more

The corporate rate makes the West Des Moines Marriott an absolute steal! Blue Light special aside, there is something about this Marriott, that makes it feel like it is teetering on the chains standards. The decor is fine. The rooms are fine. The staff is fine. What is it? It feels to me like the hotel was remodeled a few years back. The remodel couldn't cover signs that the building wasn't designed to have the layout of a modern Marriott. The gym seems like it's in an odd location and there are two elevators where it feels like there should be three. The coffee station and the business center feel like afterthoughts. Little things are starting to add up. PS: don't count on the shuttle. While a free shuttle to and from the airport is great! This one is extremely unreliable. read more

Shame shame on your name! Let me start by saying I'm a fan of most Marriott hotels....Now that I got that out of the way... The hotel's front entrance was under construction, and we had to go in a side door. They had no luggage cart so we were stuck hauling in six bags at 2:00am which equals me not being a happy camper! We checked in at a makeshift window in a hallway... At this point I had to laugh I looked at my honey, and was like really? Once we made it to our room I was so ready for a hot shower and to hit the hay! BUT they forgot our towels and shampoo! So I skipped down stairs to fetch them, the front desk clerk was happy to steal from another room (it was empty) to accommodate me! Other than that the room was clean and the bed was great! My stars are based on the lack of knowledge concerning the rebuild, and the missing items in the room! I do believe that if in fact they weren't under construction I would have given them at least 3 stars...... read more

The rooms are very fresh and clean as well as the beds/bathroom/shower. The staff here are so friendly and extremely knowledgeable on the local area especially for food recommendations. This place doesn't belong in the Marriott family. I should have stayed at Fairfield down the street instead. Even my checkin experience was not positive. We were made to wait a while and not even acknowledged, and then tersely dealt with. Then I went up to the lounge on the 9th floor where I was treated incredibly rudely by the old woman working there who followed me around (definitely not to help me out). WTF? The staff here is really rude and I am very disappointed with my experience. Maybe it's because I am very obviously not a native mid-Westerner. Maybe someone had an off day. Whatever it is, if you're expecting typical Marriott excellence in service, you'll be disappointed. These folks dont treat all fuests with respect. Thankfully I see no reason to be back here. I have not stayed in this hotel but was there for a two day conference and utilized the Concord room for the meetings. The rooms were freezing and the air conditioning was turned on for the entire first day, despite multiple requests to turn the heat on. It was mid December and the temperature outside was in the single digits. The bathrooms are also freezing and there appeared to be no warm water. The food was great, they did a wonderful job with breakfast, lunch and dinner but definitely needed to do something about the temperature of the conference rooms and bathrooms. read more

Do not stay here!! BED BUGS! My family and I booked our room here thinking it'd be a good, clean hotel. After arriving back from dinner I was changing my two month old's diaper when I saw a bug crawl across our bed. Thinking nothing of it, I used my wipe to kill it. About an hour later our 4 year old crawled into her bed and again, I noticed another bug crawling on her bed. I quickly killed it and realized it was identical to the previous bug. It didn't take long to confirm they were the dreaded bed bugs. I took the evidence to the front desk staff. The gal working apologized but seemed too busy to show any concern. I requested a new room and thankfully they did relocate us. After arriving to our new room a maintenance guy came up and apologized and said, "did they do anything for our inconvenience?" I said no so he said he would talk to the front desk to see what they could do. Shortly after we got a call saying we'd get two free breakfast vouchers for the buffet in the morning. Come to find out the next morning, our room was one the 9th floor and that room always comes with two breakfast vouchers! We never received any other apologies. As you can imagine, bed bugs are a HORRIBLE insect to potentially bring into your home- let alone with a newborn! I will never stay at the West Des Moines Mariott off Jordan Creek Parkway. Their lack of customer service and inability to show concern has driven us elsewhere. read more

Stopped here on our return trip from CO to MI. The staff was friendly and helpful, the beds were comfortable, and getting the free buffet package was a great option. Everyone found something they enjoyed eating; for me, it was the fresh omelette. The children enjoyed a chance to use the pool before the final stretch of the trip home. read more

I really, REALLY want to give this hotel 5-stars. I'll get into why I had to do 4-stars a little later in the review. If you are short on time, it's really this simple: This is where you want to stay if you are in the Des Moines/West Des Moines area!!!!! As a consultant, I frequent hotels, sometimes weekly. Not only was I welcomed gleefully when I arrived, but the front desk staff referred to me by my last name, and really made me feel like they ENJOYED their job. My teammates and I were undecided about dinner on our first night, and Freddie, the bellman was FANTASTIC! His suggestion was great, and we were overly satisfied. Now more on Freddie....so I forgot some key personal items during this trip, and decided that since the weather was warm enough for a nice walk, that I would make the trek on foot to the nearest drug store. Freddie wouldn't hear of it! He INSISTED that I allow him to take me to the Hy-Vee (24hr grocery store). Another time, I asked if someone could warm my leftovers, and not only did they warm them, they gave me an additional plate and cutlery without me requesting it. If this hotel was more updated, and had more cable TV channels, it would absolutely be a 5-start property. The fitness center and the pool area rival those hotels in large cities. The breakfast buffet is great, and offers many different options. The reach from "GREAT" to "EXCELLENT" is not far for this location. I'll definitely be staying here during my next trip....which is next week. :) read more

I really had a really good experience here. The room was very clean, and the staff was very helpful. The room service delivered breakfast on time (ordered the night before conveniently by hanging the slip on the door), but the pastry selection was not that great, and every option was doused in a hefty dose of cinnamon. Thought we'd try staying here again versus next door, where we've stayed for the past 2 years for the Good Guys car show. My Marriott app asked me to check in a day before my stay - cool - and I got a text today saying my room was ready. I called to check on the location of the room and found out it wasn't facing the parking lot where our street rod would be parked. No problem - she assured me that a room facing that direction would be assigned to me when available. Didn't happen. No such rooms available when we got here. They were all given to people checking in before me. Wait - I checked in YESTERDAY via my app. Reminds me of that Seinfeld episode - they know how to 'make' a reservation, but they don't know how to 'hold' a reservation - and that's really the most important part. I hope the rest of our stay is better and that this hotel has improved in the last 3 years. I'm not hopeful. read more

Nice Marriott, but not too flashy or big. Bartender last night was clearly in over his head, as the room was full and he was lost. Bartender tonight was more on the ball. Bar area is small and gets VERY loud if crowded. Food both nights was better than average (Salmon one night, Halibut the next). Restaurant is a "steakhouse", but since I went fish both nights, I cannot comment. The entire hotel is FREEZING cold, which they need to work on. Room was typical Marriott...comfy bed, desk, ample bathroom, big tv. Close to highways. Run of the mill Marriott, which means you will not be blown away, but should not be disappointed. read more

The service here was okay.. At the time of booking I requested no feather pillows or blankets in the room as I am allergic, I also called two days before arriving, but they were there. Staff removed them quickly. The beds were so comfy! Probably the best beds I've ever slept on. For the price of a standard king size room here you can get a suite and save some money at country inn and suites. But the feel is totally different. This is more of a hotel were people walk around in suits. That's just not for me, I prefer a more laid back environment. I want to be able to go to breakfast in sweatpants with my hair pulled up and not feel 100% underdressed. Again, that's just me. The pool here was very nice as was the sauna. My husband was obsessed with CK's steakhouse they have in the hotel. The breakfast was amazing. Best breakfast of any hotel I've stayed at but it is not complimentary. I will not be returning anytime soon. Not because it was a bad hotel just not our style. read more
