Had an awesome experience at Willis Case Golf Course this weekend. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming -- especially Shaun Johnson. You can genuinely tell they care about their guests and the overall experience. I'm active duty military, and the way they support and welcome service members really stood out. That level of respect and hospitality doesn't go unnoticed. The course itself was in great shape, especially considering Colorado off-season. Conditions exceeded expectations. I flew in for the weekend and this is easily one of my favorite municipal courses I've played. I'll absolutely be back. read more

Golf! And Views. And you can sometimes get a tee time too! Ever since they closed Park Hill Golf Course and rearchitected City Park, getting a tee time anywhere nearby at a course worth playing has been more and more difficult. That said, it is still possible to find a tee time at Willis Case - occasionally. Lots of cool things about this course: It's hilly. Almost as hilly as Homestead. Hillier than most of the other Denver courses. It has a fairly new clubhouse with great views of the mountains from their large deck (available for private functions). There is I-70 blasting passed the south side of the course, affecting only one hole's drive, but you can hear it from half the course. All in all, a great course. read more

My Birthday was last Sunday, I woke up wanting to play without a tee-time. I've played this course several times and always find it very enjoyable, one of my local favorites for sure. Tom in the Pro-Shop did everything he could to get me a spot off the front for 18, with John the Starter helping out immensley and of course Phil providing substantial emotional and mental support! There weren't any "No-Show's" unfortunately, so Tom got me out on the back 9 by myself with no one around so I was able to really focus on my playing. I don't recall many of my Bday rounds over the past bunch of years, but I'll remember this one for a good while as the staff went over and above to make my round memorable. Thanks Tom! Beautiful course and facilities, but sadly no driving range I booked a teatime here for nine holes on a Friday afternoon. It was about $23 if you walk in do not use a cart. We had no issues with check-in and the purchase process went smoothly. Even the Willis case is a great course in a beautiful area, they do not have a driving range to warm up or a chipping green. They do have hitting nets and a putting green though. Make sure to get to your teatime about 10 minutes before just in case they're running ahead of schedule. So my usual crew of golfers and I played the front 9 on a Sunday afternoon and it was GREAT! This was the first time playing Willis for two of us and we're both beginners so it was bit of a challenge on some holes and other we did ok on. The fairways are long the greens were fast on some holes and for me I had a tough time but I am a beginner. The guys in the pro shop were really nice guys, we didn't get pushed by any marshal and the course was very full, We did have to wait on half of the holes for the guys in front of us, I didn't mind. I do however think that the guys behind us were a little annoyed, too bad for them. The cart girl was really nice and they were around alot. My only gripe about the course were the cart paths. I would say that 90% of them were in really bad shape lots of holes both big and deep. There were also big to small cracks across the path so the ride was a bit bumpy and my irons were banging away. I guess that's why they make covers huh? Anyway it was a great course the layout is great for views of the Rockies and the city. I will for sure be going back especially since its 5min. from my place. read more

I was torn between a 3 and a 4, but I can't hate on Willis Case. The course is another of the Denver City Courses that are overall quite adequate in terms of lay-out and conditioning. This is a muni track and it has enough interesting holes and few enough weak holes to feel like it is worthy of some love. I'd argue that #1 is as inviting a tee shot as you will find on a course of this caliber. Elevated tee box (Ah Yes!) and lots of room to swing away. It sets the tone. Willis Case is the sort of course where you still have to work at it to score, but you won't get hammered by bad shots and you can conceivably play the round with one ball even if you are so so. No water, and you have to work hard to hit it out of bounds. You'll find a lot of open fairways, unguarded greens, and ample room to miss without harsh punishment. In short, you can kick it around and survive. But, you can also challenge yourself and find that it isn't a no-brainer to actually score and you'll find a lot of holes where you need to make good shots to have a good score. In short, a good course for a lot of ability levels. 1. Elevated Tee, long-ish par-4. Hit away. Don't go in the Fairway Bunker. 2. 200+ par-3. Get it around hole-high and leave an uphill putt. 3. Par-4 with a slight dogleg right. Start it down the right. Don't go right because you can actually go OB. 4. Good par-3. Slight downhill, and I would recommend playing it longer than you think. Green slopes from front to back. 5. Long par-5. Rip it and keep it left on the 2nd shot. You'll save yourself some work. Hard to get home in two. 6. Once was a par-5 now a long par-4. One of the weaker holes on the course. 7. I hate this hole. Par-4. Road on the right is in play. Little gulch with no trouble in front of the green. Miss left. I don;t know why I never play it well. 8. Should be easy. Slight uphill and short par-4. If you miss right, miss way right and you are better off. 9. Good par-4 with a tough uphill 2nd shot to the green. Don't leave it short because you will come back down the hill. 10. Who starts a nine with a par-3? It's a good par-3, though. 11. Tricked up par-4. Either go right or far left of the trees. Leave your 2nd short - long is a tough recovery. 12. Good par-5 with a view of Lakeside Amusement Park. Straight-forward. 13. Short par-4, good hole. Tough green to approach. Miss long and right if you miss. The green isn't huge. 14. Par-4. Drive it on the right side and you have a short approach. It's a weak hole. You really should make no worse than a par even if you aren't a player. 15. Really good downhill par-4. Interesting green complex. Make sure to hit it long enough on your approach, and don't leave it above the hole on the left because it's a hard up and down. You'll like this hole. 16. Uphill par-4 and you should focus on distance on your drive. Blind 2nd. Good hole. 17. Long-ish (180 yrd) par-3. Easy if you hit a good shot. If you hit a short shot, you go crazy if you're in a cart. You try and hit a flop with your gap wedge because you didn't bring your sand wedge. You launch it over the green and throw your club to the 18th tee box. It's gotta get there somehow. ...at least that's how I just played it. 18. Good finishing hole par-4. Even if you have a good drive you you have plenty of distance left with a slight uphill. Clubhouse behind the green. This hole was re-done when they built the new clubhouse. Good finishing hole with good views looking back to the mountains from the green. All in all, a nice public course with little trouble. You won't pull your hair out unless you are really mediocre. In which case, go hit the range. BTW - This course has no range. It is the range. read more

Easy peezy, lemon squeezy. Take a deep breath and swing 80%... I enjoy a round of golf at Willis Case Golf Course. Sure, it's not the most technical course in the area, but it's still challenging none the less. We are talking about golf after all, the lifetime sport. Wills Case is one of the few courses in the area that tries to stay open all year round. As long as there isn't snow on the ground they'll try to be open. They have what you call a snow 9. It's 9 holes that don't have snow on the greens. For instance, last week when I played they had holes 1, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 16, 17, and 18 open to complete 9 holes. We wanted to play 18, but the starter wasn't sure we would have enough time. We settled on 9, but when we finished we asked him if we could play a couple more and he gladly let us play until dark. We ended up playing 13 holes this round and only paying for 9. Score! Denver takes excellent care of their courses and Willis Case is no exception. The fairways are always clear, the greens are very well manicured, and they often change the position of the pin. With it's location, you'll often be amazed at the views of the foothills and mountains while playing. The staff is friendly and the bartender in the clubhouse hooked us up with a couple beers before our tee time. If you're hungry, they have the standard golf course clubhouse food - hot dogs, sandwiches, and a salad or two. The hot dogs aren't bad and they usually have a special with chips and a soda. When golfing, that works for me. Willis Case is a great city course and for the price it's hard to beat. read more

Great Muni type golf course. Unlike a lot of local Muni types, this course has some elevation change. The course reminds me of a lot of the older Mid Western golf course, especially the first hole, while standing there the entire panorama is there before you, the mountians, the course, it is a wonderful sight. Old clubhouse with limited facilities but that is OK as I was there for the course. Greens are typical Muni type, small mostly round with some conture and some in better shape than others. A fun course with a good variety of holes. Pace of play is good, everyone seems to move right along. Gentleman in the pro shop C.J. is most helpful and seems to know most of the regulars. Also great value for your golfing dollar. M-F only $23-27 to walk, $15 for seniors. I will be back. read more

I golfed with Larren and totally agree with his assessment. Willis Case has some beautiful views, and is an easier course for pathetic duffers like me. Friendly starter. It was the only course open after the snow, and they did a great job of keeping the greens ready for action. I look forward to trying the full 18, but the snow 9 rocked it on an otherwise sunny winter's day. The spectacular clubhouse and well-appointed pro shop complete the package. Quick tip: Be sure to not let CC drive the golf cart in front of you. Seems we crashed a few times and I spun him out a few more. Otherwise, great course! read more

Driving along I-70 at 75mph, I see a golf ball fly onto the highway and hit a few cars almost causing an accident. How in the world can this golf course operate right next to the interstate with NO net? HIGHLY IRRESPONSIBLE. Would never give a place like this my business. read more

We played 9 holes at Willis Case and had a great time. Never felt rushed and the pace was just right. For $25 bucks and some change, you can play 9 holes with a cart. Not a bad deal. The best part? I lived down the street from Willis for years, a great course to round up the guys, play some bad golf and drink some cold beer. They have killer views, nice course and good for beginners. And you can walk the course with no problem. Much different than other cities in the country, Denver takes excellent care of its municipal golf courses. While Willis Case is a muni, it's got a great layout. Wonderful terrain, great holes, and it's in an excellent location that gives some spectacular views when looking west. For scratch golfers it's probably going to be on the easy side, but on any given day W.C. offers challenges for most amateurs. If you regularly shoot 95ish, this is a great place for you. There are several birdie holes, and even an eagle or two waiting to be grabbed. Be careful not to shank your drives on to I-70 on 12 or 13 (The last time I was there, two of my friends did exactly that. On back to back drives.) The food in the clubhouse is decent. Prices are good for food. Beers and other drinks are reliably expensive, but it's a golf clubhouse -- those kinds of things are expected. Staff (from starters to cart-girls) are friendly, helpful, polite, etc. Usually the cart-girls are hungover which makes them all the more fun on the course. No, really. In the 2.5 years I've lived in Denver this is by far my favorite muni course. While others are easier, and have better hot dogs, this one offers a good challenge for many golfers, and is usually kept in great shape. For a good time golfing in Denver, be sure to hit Willis Case! read more

This is a fun place to play. The track is a little bit basic, with lots of straight holes and few hazards. There's a nice variety with some challenging holes, some easier ones, and several have great views of the mountains. As others have noted, the greens were in great shape - fast, true, and held well. The drink cart didn't show up until the 9th hole, but made up for it by showing up 3 times on the back. read more

This course is a bit nicer in terms of facilities than City Park, and a bit more hilly. The front 9 is the most fun, and most challenging. The back 9 has some short/easy holes and holes bordering the streets. Willis Case is a relatively open course, with long fairway grass and deep rough during the season. Hills are rolling and provide variety but the course is still walkable ... only a couple of holes require a lengthy uphill hike. This is a great place to get a good walking game in, or play with your friends if they have a mix of skill levels. We had two guys who shoot in the 80s play with two who shoot in the 100s and everybody stayed together and kept up just fine. I highly recommend playing outside of peak hours as it could be busy on weekends. It is a great place to play in the early AM hours, or on weekdays before work. read more

Not impressed with this course. The host in the pro shop, the newer female was great. Everyone else was a joke. We got rained out during our play. When trying to get a rain check we were told we could apply this towards any Denver course. Not true. Unfortunately, with us being from a different state and not having time to play again. They would not give in shop credit. So a wasted 65 dollars. Not a good facility. I almost forgot, the course is flat and plain. Not a fun course. read more

The course is absolutely beautiful. And for being so close to home it's really nicely kept. I just felt like the whole tone was set at the beginning when they charged me for a water cup. 50 cents. What's the point? And then as we were playing, the bathrooms were locked because we were playing twilight. Just pretty tacky things for such a nice course which was disappointing. This is a review of the clubhouse and not really the golf course itself. I have become a regular at the clubhouse precisely because it is provides wonderful views, relatively calm environment (save for occasional loud parties), sports on TV, a nice patio, internet access and a solid although not the most creative menu. While the food is fairly standard fare (burgers, salads, wings, tacos, sandwiches), the food they do offer has been overall good and reasonable for "golf" type prices--esp in the Berkeley Park/Tennyson neck of the woods where almost everywhere is a bit more $$$ (their BLT and cobb salad are quite delish). What really stands out tho are the servers--particularly Cindy, Kristen, Kirsten and Meghan-- that generally work in the mid to late afternoon and are always friendly and engaging. I have also gotten fond of the regulars crew that comes here for beers even if they can get a little crotchety at times. Love house, love blackbird. ;) Great spot for me to catch up on emails and get a little work done while throwing a few back at the end of the work day. read more

My mom used to play this muni course when she was a teenager in the forties. I just played it with my cousin for nostalgia and OMG, it was super fun. Totally wide open with a cool lay out through the big mature trees. I birdied 17 for my mom as I felt her presence throughout the round. Many tee choices to spice up the challenge and even though the greens had been recently aerated, they rolled great. Can't wait to do it again on my next trip to Colorado. read more

WCCG is a user-friendly 18 holes. No water and you're able to use driver nearly every hole. I like some of the little things like ball washers (giggle) on every tee box. The greens are kept in very nice condition year-round and there are some really great views of the mountains. read more

I think that Willis Case is the best of the Denver city courses. Every time I have played it has been in great condition. As several others have noted, it is a very easy course. Pretty wide open and the back nine is very short. The par 5's are reachable in two with a driver and a mid to short iron. A couple of the par 4's are drivable. It is an okay golf course. The holes are jammed together so the fairways are right next to each other. Which is not bad for keeping track of your balls. Had to wait a lot for others to get off our fairway. The course was in okay shape for the time of the year. Overall kinda pricey for what you get. read more

Not the toughest golf course around Denver but definately the most laid back. Great for a social round. The front 9 is kind of boring compared to the back 9. A few tough tee shots with no sight of the green. Well kept grounds and the prices at hole 19 arent too terrible. The one thing I have to complain about is that I've played 18 here at least 3 times this season and have not seen the beverage cart once. read more

Terrible place to golf. All must be racist. Played 9 holes in an hour and 45 minutes and they asked us to leave. Said we were too slow. People were calling and saying we were holding them up. We didn't have anyone in front of us or behind us. One hour and 45 minutes is good for 4 people golfing. Unbelievable and very embarrassing. I'm so mad. We are Indian and black. The darkest on the course. No other reason to make us leave other than our skin color. Will be talking to manager. Soon if he answers his phone.
