We did our due diligence and also got quotes from other local companies but in the end we chose to use Southern Grind Stump And Tree Removal because of their professionalism and fair pricing. Because the rain had them backed up (and my yard is a slippery hill), we were scheduled 2 weeks out to have the work done. They kept in contact with me during that time frame to let me know we were still on schedule for that date. On the day they removed the tree they arrived promptly and got to work immediately. I was expecting 1 or 2 trucks but they came with a whole fleet of vehicles, workers, tools and equipment. The job was done thoroughly and without further damage to my fence. Steven Thomas left a demo job he started on 12.20.24, incomplete. He has ignored my requests for a…read moreproposed completion date. Prior to him starting the job, 12.16.24, a deposit was paid ($650). On 12.19.24, he asked if I could pay an additional $600. He stated a guy he worked with put regular fuel instead of diesel fuel in his equipment and he had to rent equipment to perform the job at my house. It sounded a bit sketchy, but I paid it. On the first date of demo, he knocked down a fence not damaged by the storm. He put the fence back upright, but it is NOT in the condition it was in prior to him knocking it down. He dropped a large piece of structure on the fence and he probably wouldnt have said anything if I hadnt came to the back door. On the second date of demo, he hit a water pipe, which caused flooding in my backyard. I had to call an after hours plumber. Due to the wet and muddy condition, Steven stated he would be back to clean up the remaining debris in yard after it dried. While leaving Saturday, 12.21.24, he said he would be back in an hour to pick up his trailer (that was parked in the front of my house), a dumpster, that was still in my backyard, and an excavator, that was also left in the backyard. He did not. Those items did not get picked up until Sunday after noon. He requested the remaining payment after he left that evening. I paid in good faith with the promise he would come back to clean the remaining debris, insulation, and small pieces of metal and leave my yard grade like it was before he started the job. Due to the holiday (Christmas) and also a few rainy days the following week, I gave him grace, but he has yet to contact me. Steven has an issue with time. He never showed up when he stated he would. He stated he would start early in the morning, he did not. Job started closer to noon. Steven is nice, but being nice doesnt equate to professionalism. Let's not leave out his girlfriend sitting in the truck the entire time he performed work both days and her allowing her puppy to defecate in my yard, which someone later stepped in. Please pick up after your pet if you bring it to a jobsite or leave it at home. I contacted him on Jan 1 to ask if he had a proposed date to finish the job for which he was paid in full. I didnt receive a response, but yet he continually posts on Facebook soliciting new jobs. Even had the audacity to post my backyard as if the job was completed and the customer was satisfied. I gave him enough grace prior to posting. I would not recommend. Dishonest and unprofessional business practices. Hopefully he'll do better in the future. To add, he contacted me this morning ONLY after I left a review of his unprofessionalism.
