We just went yesterday (she's almost 3) and she had a great time. I had to pull her away after 90 minutes. It was really busy (Monday holiday) but people were generally good about watching their kids and the owner who was working seemed to have it together. The space is clean and well-maintained; I know she sanitizes and washes things often. I'll agree that there isn't much adult seating outside of near the door. It's $10 for the first 90 minutes with 1 child and 1 adult, which seems fair to me.

We recently moved into this micro-neighborhood (also appropriately called The Pocket) of Back Cove, and Heseltine Park - which I previously had no idea existed - has quickly become a staple part of our "backyard." First off - what's a pocket park? According to Wikipedia it's tiny public parks that were created on irregular pieces of land or vacant former building lots... kind of like Leslie Knope's Pawnee Commons (aka the Sullivan Street Pit) or Pawnee Park (aka The Smallest Park in Indiana). Speaking of which, I think she'd approve of Heseltine. Built where a two-story brick schoolhouse from the mid-1800's used to be, there's a "Friends Of..." group that comes together to really take care of, maintain, and nurture this hyperlocal green space which features big beautiful trees, a field to play baseball on, as well as picnic tables, benches, swings, a seesaw, and a adventure area (think: things to climb on) for kids. Every time I've ever driven or walked past here there is a happy family playing or eating or existing joyfully. It's nice to know that these untouched-by-tourist spots in Portland still exist and I'm happy this little neighborhood has a spot to convene!

It was a beautiful drive from Windham to Standish on Route 35. The great Sebago Lake on the right and the woods on the left. I wasn't aware of this, but the woods are owned by the Portland Water District. They contain over 13 miles of trails and have a connected trailhead with the MDT. While I waited for my hiking partners I wandered around the field to check out my new surroundings. Johnson field seems to be a typical local soccer field. They have a large parking area, clearly marked with a sign along the road. Around the field they have a jungle gym and a play area. They also have 3 adult plyometric machines to get an outdoor workout? It's like an outdoor step and rowing machine. I had never seen anything like it. The restroom situation is Port-A-Pot, but they seemed clean enough, better than a trailside bathroom break. The trailhead kiosk for the MDT starts to the left of the field and runs along a gravel road that seems to be a multi-use trail shared with the YMCA camp. I would like to see the traffic on this trail/road in the summer. Not sure if it would be a place to have a dog off leash, because of traffic, despite the size of the trail. Johnson Field is a fine place to park and then walk.

Thankfully, the NPO Friends of Congress Square Park have done a lot over the years to protect it from outside buyers, preserve it, and breathe new life into it. This once deteriorated space has become a hub for arts, entertainment, and community togetherness. Over the course of the past many years I have... - Been entertained by the Circus Conservatory of America - Listened to the Maine Marimba Ensemble perform - Watched fire jugglers - Looked at art - Played an impromptu game of kickball ... in the park. And that was before all of the great things that are now intentionally planned for the space! Now, there's... - copious amounts of lovely seating - food trucks - even more musical and theater performances - outdoor movies - dance lessons - group knitting sessions - yoga and tai chi - kid-friendly activities ... all in the park. So impressed and grateful towards the Friends of Congress Square Park for what they've done. Bravo, folks! Thank you!

This is a lovely state park with stunning views of the coastline and opportunity to scramble along…read morerocks at the water's edge. Although it does not have a beach, Two Lights State Park was a fun place to explore for our family. It has clean restroom facilities and picnic tables if you want to enjoy lunch. Away from the coastline, the park also has a wooded trail that provides respite from the sun. The only downside is that NO lighthouses are visible within the park. Instead, you'll have to turn right just outside the park and drive about a half-mile toward a seafood restaurant and tiny beach. However, the view of the lighthouse is partially obstructed by a mega-mansion under construction. That said, we managed to capture a photo of the famous lighthouse (from the Edward Hopper painting) by going up a private street (Two Lights Terrace) for a quick photo. It's unfortunate the state park did not acquire the land where the restaurant is located and block the construction of private housing.

This particular park is a bit deceiving in that the name two lights might make you think you are going to see 2 lights, there is only one on the mainland, and the other is 17 miles out to sea. But who really cares when the park gives you the amazing views that it does! The trails wind on the upper cliffs of the shoreline and provide an awesome view of Casco Bay and the ocean. Along the walking trails are benches and picnic tables where you can take pause and be at one with the ocean. The views of the crashing waves and the rocky shoreline are amazing!
