The doctor convinced me to place a crown on a tooth that had previously undergone a root canal. My prior dentist had been monitoring it and wasn't in a rush to do anything, but this provider made it sound like a necessary next step for my health. I trusted that advice. But from there, the entire experience became a mess. What should have been two appointments turned into four. I had to come back repeatedly because the temporary crowns kept cracking -- twice. Each time I tried to communicate that something felt off, that it was uncomfortable and gross to have a cracked piece in my mouth, I was met with attitude -- like I was an inconvenience. I wasn't being dramatic; I was just asking for care that should have been basic. What made it worse is that every visit felt rushed. I came in kind of urgently for the final crown because the temporary had come out again, and she barely looked me in the eye. While placing the permanent crown, she let dental debris and chemical dust fall on my face. At one point, she even grabbed my face abruptly. The whole interaction lacked any gentleness or bedside manner. Going to the dentist puts you in a vulnerable position -- you're literally lying down, mouth open, trusting that someone will care for you. After spending close to $2,000 with insurance, the bare minimum I expected was kindness and attention to detail. Instead, I was dismissed repeatedly when the temporaries fell apart, made to feel like I was a nuisance, and given treatment that felt rushed and careless. To top it off, all services must be paid for upfront, and despite the inconvenience and multiple return visits, there was no offer of compensation -- not even a basic toothbrush. And I was now driving close to 40 minutes each way after moving, just trying to get the work finished. I don't know if it's the materials she uses, but the quality felt low, and even now with the permanent crown in, it looks nice but I don't feel confident in the work. I honestly felt compelled to leave this review, which isn't something I normally do. But this was a stressful and disappointing experience -- and not one I would ever choose to go through again.

We initially chose NBS because they were in-network with our insurance. Over the past year, we began receiving bills for routine cleanings. After paying them, we followed up and were told our insurance denied coverage because the appointments were scheduled a few days prior to our next six-month eligibility window. NBS initially acknowledged this should have been caught when the appointments were scheduled. We understand that insurance coverage can be nuanced, but we also believe it's reasonable to expect an in-network provider to be familiar with a major insurance company's guidelines and help ensure their patients stay within coverage on something as routine as dental cleanings. We brought the issue up to Dr. Szyperski, and she immediately dismissed it as an insurance problem. The coverage rejection was framed as the insurance company being misleading, and there was no accountability or empathy for the nearly $500 we paid out of pocket for services that would normally be fully covered. She even went so far as to ask if we expected her to work for free and confusingly put it on us to decide if we wanted to pay the remaining balance or not (we did). We didn't necessarily enter the conversation looking for a refund or credit, but the lack of any ownership or empathy was disheartening. We don't intend to discourage anyone else from seeking treatment at North Bay Smiles--it was a solid dental practice for us up until that point, and I appreciated that they didn't recommend treatments unless they were absolutely necessary. But at the end of the day, I won't support a business that costs me money and doesn't appear to care.

I was quoted $800 for a root canal by Heather in the front office. The next week after the procedure I was told suddenly the price had changed to $1,088. This left me confused and frustrated, as I had agreed to the original price. When I tried to address the issue with Heather over the phone, she was incredibly rude and dismissive. She interrupted me repeatedly and wouldn't let me explain my situation. Ultimately, she hung up on me, which was very unprofessional and added to my stress. Now, I'm still in pain and unsure if the root canal was performed properly. I no longer feel comfortable returning to this office, so I'm seeking treatment elsewhere. It's disheartening that a previously positive experience turned into such a negative one due to poor communication and customer service. My husband tried to address this with both dentists as well and they weren't interested. It's a shame they are losing myself and my husband and our 3 children as customers over this one experience.

I very much prefer a dental hygienist to clean my teeth as they are able to really diminish the stains. It has been a couple of weeks now and I have spots on a few of my teeth by the gumlines that look like my teeth are dying. I will ask again if they offer a hygienist for instrument cleaning. We plan on following through with the treatment recommended and are hoping for a good outcome.

This review for Dr. Sukhdeep Sandhu and his office staff has been long overdue…read more   We used to go to a different dentist in Solano County, and our dental insurance is Delta Dental PPO.  Dealing with this other office was a bit of a nightmare as they seemed to cater their medical treatment around what they believed my insurance would cover.  Due to my own neglect, I required a deep cleaning, but instead they wanted to do an "extended basic cleaning."  Also, despite informing me Preventative Services were 100% covered, this other dentist charged us out of pocket for basic preventative services on TOP of the amount insurance paid.    Needless to say, we were driven to seek out a new dentist for our family.  In my first consultation with Dr. Sandhu, he explained quite thoroughly why I needed to undergo a deep cleaning, to stop a host of problems like bleeding, bad breath, and to prevent further damage.  I really appreciated that he seemed to actually care for my dental health as a medical provider.  Although the services were not fully covered by my dental plan, I at least had peace of mind that I was on the right path to solving my dental issues.  With Dr. Sandhu's advice, I also bought a huge pack of floss pics because I never want to undergo a deep cleaning again lol...the other "Delta Dental Premier" dentist told me to just use a Water Pik instead of flossing which I felt was bad advice.   On the medical billing side, I can understand that dental insurance and all the various plans can be convoluted, but Jasmine, the office manager who is kind and hard-working, has always been transparent and with no hidden out of pocket costs afterwards.  Aside from being a complete professional that has earned my trust, Dr. Sandhu is just a really upbeat, personable, and genuine guy! Obviously, no one likes going to the dentist lol...but having a provider that cares for you, educates you, and is honest, makes the experience a whole lot easier. Upon arrival, the front office staff were kind. Dr Ratcliff came out and greeted us, but was very none enthusiastic, like we were bothering her. Im sure by my hello, she could tell i was terrified and uneasy about this whole situation. We sat in the back room with her in her office, I had read reviews that her "bedside" manner was not great, but i didnt expect what i got. she asked a bunch of health questions about my husband and myself which of course i expected. she then went into how babies are made, and explained issues with fertility.and why infertility happens. Which i did appreciate because i did learn some things. THEN WE TOOK A TURN. she told me and my husband, that "we would be irresponsible to continue to try and get pregnant" when i heard that i started to cry. No empathy at all. I asked her "what do you mean?" she doubled down and told us that we are too unhealthy and im old now and my baby would most likely have "lifelong" issues I wish i was kidding. I was shocked and terrified and completely overwhelmed. she said options could be IUI or IVF if that didnt work but she wouldn't do either of those for me because i needed to lose 90 pounds before my birthday (which mind you was in about 6 weeks). I said well if i lost that much weight i would be unhealthy but ok. Then she said because if i did it and you end up with a baby who is sick, you will sue me. so then it clicked to me that this wasnt about me or my husband and i trying to start a family, it was about her. She talked to us like we were children and not grown adults seeking advice and help. She told us which tests she wanted us to do and we could go from there. Sperm testing for my husband and she said she would order blood work for me. Then she said she's going to do the ultrasound to see how many follicles i have - saying at my "advanced age" i should have at least 18 but was snarky about it as if she thought there was no way i had enough. So we went into the ultrasound room and sure enough i had like 23. Its almost like she was shocked. We then went to leave, she provided us with the sperm testing information for my husband - and said my tests would be ordered and i would get an email when they were so i could go to the lab. NEVER GOT THE EMAIL - tests never got ordered My husband did the sperm test 3 days later. Dr Ratcliff called him with the results and told him he is about 100k more than what would be "normal" but instead of just giving him the good news she doubled down and said again on the phone. "I highly encourage you and your wife to not continue to try as it would be "irresponsible". He hung up on her. I knew after that appointment i would never go back. I would do anything to be a mom but i am not going to be belittled to make that happen. I met with an OB a few weeks later and told her of my experience and she was SHOCKED. But, without me even saying who the doctor was, she knew, she asked me "did that happened to be Dr Ratcliff over in santa rosa" - THATS BAD, when the OB knew. she said she had so many patients tell her similar stories. But, despite her awful interactions with us and terrible demeanor and advice. I am happy to say that i am 9 weeks pregnant with my first child and i am so excited. So, if you are trying and struggling, i would not go to her go anywhere else

My mental journey is a whole other level but what I can say is that dr Thorburn removed a lot of baggage for me. I had a Fleu de lis abdominalplasty and an implant exchange. She removed about 10lbs of skin, tissue, and fluid. She was realistic about my results, and was incredibly supportive of my goals. "I just want to be able to function" I told her. I got soooo much more. She gave me the freedom to finally feel comfortable in my skin. The first week was a rollercoaster. She warned me about that and I thought, meh I'm pretty positive and don't really complain, I'm sure it'll be fine. My first week post op visit was rough. I wanted to cry because I felt like I was doing so well with recovery the first couple days, then I felt like I was back to day one. I felt defeated. it's a whole mental journey- but I say all this because she really spoke to the mental piece of such a major surgery as well as the physical.
