I want to like this course but every time I am extremely let down. The staff is condescending.. every time. Today we went to play there & they made us pay for our 15 year old when my husband has the players card.. you google the players card and it says youth play free with a parent whose a card holder.. their sister courses are great never any problems.. but we are always met with attitude and like we do not know what we're talking about at this course. I will NEVER recommend this golf course to any woman. My first (and last) experience here was completely disrespectful and rooted in misogyny. As a former DI athlete and a woman getting into golf for fun, I was shocked at how demeaning and unwelcoming the staff, particularly a marshal named Dave, made the experience. My coworkers and I went golfing on a Friday when we all happened to have the day off. A group several tee times ahead of us was running about 10 minutes behind, so our tee time was slightly delayed, which was not a problem, since we had no time constraints. Our first encounter with the marshal, Dave, seemed fine. He told us to "keep up with the group in front of you," and we agreed, mentioning that we were playing a scramble to move faster. We even brushed off his unnecessary, creepy old-guy comment about our golf attire (we were a group of three women). A hole later, Dave returned to lecture us about how we "weren't playing a scramble correctly" and that we "don't hit the ball far enough" to keep pace. His tone was condescending and frankly inappropriate. We were easily maintaining pace and I even timed one of our holes at under 10 minutes, yet he came back three more times to criticize us while ignoring other groups who were just as slow or slower. By the 7th hole, he had approached us four separate times, while my coworkers' groups ahead of us said he only checked on them once. By the time we wrapped up on the final hole, look who came riding in and parked his cart, Dave. The most ironic part was that the group behind us was an entire hole behind; they were still putting on the 7th hole while no one was even on the 8th. Yet, even with other groups clearly off pace, Dave was done micromanaging. Once our group of women finished, his so-called "concern for pace of play" suddenly vanished. When we finished, we spoke with the front desk and manager, who apologized but seemed surprised and said, "That doesn't sound like him." That response made it clear that either they didn't believe us, or that this behavior only surfaces when management isn't watching. To top it off, while we met up with our other coworkers and stayed afterward for a drink, I realized we were the only women on the course that day. Based on how we were treated, I can't imagine that's a coincidence. This was one of the most uncomfortable and disheartening experiences I've had at any recreational facility. Until this course takes accountability and addresses how its staff treats female golfers, I cannot and will not recommend it to anyone. read more

Played here this morning. Course looks well maintained. Only complaint is the homeless people hanging out around the course constantly yelling for no apparent reason and crossing the greens at the last minute not even looking when people are hitting their ball. If they get hit it's not the golfers fault, it's their own problem! read more

Harassed by marshal to speed up play despite finishing round in 2h15m with two beginners. According to Head Pro Curt, that is way too slow for that course. When I asked for Capital City card refund purchased that morning, he got even more defensive. Requested cash and he tossed it directly into the counter in a dismissive manner. Didn't seemed to be very professional of you Curt. I can understand why staff there appear to be hating their jobs. Looks like Curt fits the Morton Golf mold of a profit first, customer service last type of employee. I've played this track regularly for the past 20 years with no issues. Today was a different story. Our foursome was consistently one stroke behind the group in front of us, perhaps two strokes on one or two holes. The group in front of us were within our sight at all times. On hole 8 (par 5), we teed off as the group in front of us were making their approach shots on the green. Again, within reach. Yet, the marshall harassed us the whole round. After the round was over, I returned to the front desk and asked the gentleman behind the counter if we were playing slow based on our start and end time and he said we finished on time. However, another man who worked there was rude, very dismissive and insisted we were playing slow because apparently we didn't reach the 9th green until sometime after the group in front of us finished putting out (less than 10 minutes?). Our group has never received such poor treatment from a golf course and will not be returning. read more

Used to play here a lot. I normally walk, but when it's 104° I'll ride. They upped their fees lately. $35-40 for nine holes with a cart is crazy for this course. You can play an actual golf course that has beverage carts, has a full driving range and doesn't have morons picnicking in the fairway for that much lol. Dumb business move with how many courses are around honestly. Four stars bc it's usually in decent shape, but it's typically slow and for $70+/18 there are better courses around here to play by a long shot read more

Worst experience ever !! The counter guy Joe was very condescending during our interaction. I walked in after I saw an open Tee time online I asked about it but joe claimed it was already taken however nobody was even at the tee box. He came off very irritated that I was trying to book a tee time for my and my two kids he kept saying they didn't even have youth on course even with our online proof he charged me full price for one. One of my kids has a player card but with a paying adult he should be free like it is at bing Bartley and haggin but he charged me 15 at the end I lost it on him dude is racist I got my money back and I left I won't ever go back. read more

Workers were nice but not beginner friendly. Was charged for a cart even tho I was passenger. Then one of our golfers was new so he took about 5 strokes over par which apparently was enough for them to rush us by having us skip half a whole because it was a "requirement". I just played a round at LP and everything was great from the workers in carts giving water to the field conditions, but I had a really bad experience with the two gentlemen working in the pro shop they over charged two of my friends and judged us as soon and we walked into the building. Overall everything was great other then the two guys working the pro shop really ruined the way me and my friends and family look at the land park golf. read more

Great course to play and the cafe on site has outstanding food and drinks. It's a gem in Land Park. I play with a fun ladies group on Thursdays; fun because we don't keep score. It's great for making new friends and golfing with neighbors who just enjoy golf without competition. It's a happy place! read more

I went yesterday to practice my short game at the short game area which has three greens very nice place to practice at a very nice been doing it for a couple years now all of a sudden A golf marshal tells me I have to pay $10 an hour to practice their no signs stating that in order to practice There you-must check in at the pro shop i've been practicing there as I said before for a couple of years now even take my lawn chair sit and enjoy the sun but now all of a sudden someone wants to charge 10 bucks to practice there which is fine $10 is nothing but no warning no signs indicating anything about paying a fee Very inappropriate on behalf of the managementNot good so I will go and confront management about this just wondering how they're going to respond wish me luck read more

Wish I could give it a 0/5 stars! Clubhouse is tucked away with no indication where to go. The course has random people walking through it 24/7, have to wait for the homeless to cross before you tee off. Layout is atrocious. Don't waste your time or money on this place. read more

Foot golfing is my new favorite sport to play. I had never even heard of it before last month. Incase you're unfamiliar, foot golf is golf with a soccer ball. You play the same amount of holes, the scoring is about the same and it takes about the same amount of time. This is something your do for fun. We got a pitcher of beer and rode around in the golf cart playing foot golf for a few hours. I was exhausted but didn't want to leave! It was so much fun. Everyone in the pro shop is super friendly. The golf carts are well kept and so are the grounds. The course maps are pretty easy to follow too! William Land Golf Course is a nice place, it's an inexpensive course for people looking to have a good time and get some sun. The beer is cheap and the people are nice. If you're a serious golfer or someone who's nit-picky about how straight your putt will roll, you may want to pass on this course. If, like me, the quality of your golf is at best, piss poor, and you enjoy searching for your lost ball in the shade of a 150 year old heritage oak, this course might be a good fit. The grill is casual and a bit run down. Food's just fine though, with daily specials and even some great brews on tap. The links are on the short short side. Makes me feel manly. The sand is flat and easy to get up & out. Lots of shade, wide fairways. If you're an early riser, you'll likely miss any many obnoxious players (they tend to sleep in). Nearby: Vic's, Freeport Bakery, Marie's Donuts, Oscar's, a brewery with roll-up doors and several coffee shops. Just right for an early morning start to your day. read more

The guy at the counter when we arrived for foot golf was great. He was friendly and helpful. But the foot golf course is awful. There are missing flags, unmarked holes, torn up tee boxes. We were given some not nice looks by the golfers. Overall, I don't think I would go back unless they make some significant improvements. read more

First Tee golf lessons at William land park. Very organized and I love the concepts that they teach the children. It's group lessons and they also give each child personal attention when it's their turn to putt or swing or whatever else. All of the instructors are nice and friendly. Normally I love this course. And agree with the 31/2 star rating. But today it was awful. The greens were sanded, the fairways were aerated and plugs were everywhere in the area that is usually fairway. The lawn was not mowed and the fairways resembled cow pastures. Went here during a kid emergency to use the bathroom. Totally understand if bathrooms are for patrons. However, I asked for an exception for my 4 year old who had to poop and it would have been difficult to make it all the way across two soccer fields to the public bathroom. Pretty appalled by the refusal after requesting the exception given the circumstances, which I explained to them. Luckily, no accident, but not without a lot of rushing and stress. My 5 year old participates in the after school First Tee program. He loves it! The coaches are mostly retired volunteers who are very good with the children. Coach Rob is kind and patient, as well. The price is amazing. I pay a bit more when I elected to do the drop in weekly rate. Only $17.95 and we can go every day they have sessions (TWR.) Each one is an hour and a half. The kids do a variety of things. Of course, they work on hitting, but interspersed are things like tag and a game based on baseball but with golf club/ball. For a young kid who is trying to get an idea of golf, but may not have enough concentration for formal lessons, this is perfect. I'm planning on doing the latter in a couple of years when he has a better grasp of the concept. The older kids also seem to enjoy the program and get some help with their skills, however I think it's a better fit for the little ones. read more

I was inspired by Greg Norman at the British Open this weekend. He's an old geezer! I'm also inspired by nine-hole golf courses nearby my house. I'm an old geezer! I coaxed my wife into playing a round of golf at the William Land Golf Course. We've been taking golf lessons with Dick McShane, another old geezer, and decided to see if those lessons have paid off yet and.... they have. At least a little bit.... The course is smack dab in the middle of William Land Park. Instead of a birdie I think my wife got a goose. I swear I saw the goose duck when she crushed the titleist right over a group of them. They hated her. Another hazard is clueless folks visiting the actual park. A group of morons almost had a picnic set up on the 7th hole. I aimed right at their picnic basket. hey, don't blame me, blame William Land! It's a bit dangerous out there. William Land Golf Course is a great course to get a quick nine holes in. This is a great short course (9 holes). The price is right, the location is prime, and the staff is pleasant. It is a bit hard to play when people are walking across the course since the park, zoo, fairytale town, and funderland are very close. They could improve the signage to indicate the next tee box and the greens need to be rolled. They were a bit a hairy. However, the putting greens are convenient and in great shape. When I visited my former academic adviser at Sac State, he suggested we should play some round. As I told him that I haven't played for several years and needed to meet my friends in SF, he chose this place. While this place may not be a world-renowned place to golf, I can see why people like this place. It's very reasonable ($15 per person), and some courses were moderately challenging. He and I were paired with a 12-y.o. with Stanford hats and a golf globe and his uncle who lives nearby. They obviously played very well, but I did what I could given my inexperience. The group was able to finish the place in about 2-1/2 hours. I'm sure the pair would finish much earlier. The only reservation that I have about this place is that since it's a part of a park, people cross courses all the time. So you'd better watch out not having your ball to hit a little kid. read more

I've been playing at Land Park golf course for almost 15 years now and it's a great little public course to practice at. The pricing is very fair and you can usually walk on without much of a wait. Sure the greens and tee boxes are not in tip top shape. But it's fine for me. I think that this course can be enjoyed by children, beginners, and even long-time golfers. The course is not too long, but there are some challenging holes too. My favorite hole has to be #3- a par three with a giant tree in the way. The course is very walkable; but they have pull-carts and electric carts as well. The practice green is large enough for many people to practice on and there is a chipping/pitching area as well. The staff is always friendly and helpful too. I can't really complain. Notes: -There is a parking lot and it's usually not too difficult to find a space. -Beware of randoms walking across the park. read more

This is a surprisingly relaxing, pretty nice 9 hole course, especially for $10 -- I think this is their twilight price. Actually they refer to it is "9-Hole Last Light Golf Special - Weekdays Winter- 3pm to Dark / Summer - 5pm to Dark" The fairways are in good shape especially considering the drought we are having. The greens were aerated recently so they are more like a pachinko board (at least at the moment). There's also a couple of very large putting/chipping/pitching practice areas. There's an unusual area that I haven't quite figured out that looks like it would be a driving range (there are stalls) but they face what looks like some sort of (apparently) rentable practice are that has different bunkers and things. If you want to play a quick, cheap 9 holes, Land Park will do what you need it to. There are parts that aren't in the best shape though. There were muddy areas last time we went, even though it hadn't rained in over a month. Some parts didn't even have grass, just dirt. But the fairway and greens were pretty well maintained, which is where it really counts. We paid $18 each, and they do have carts but we decided do huff it old-school. The biggest problem I have with this place is that it is in the middle of Land Park, which means that there are people picknicking along the fairway, students walking through the course to get home from school, etc. We had 2 children playing on the green at one point, and that's not just annoying... it's dangerous. But that's what you get at this course, so be ready to deal with it! It's quick and easy, and I've never had a problem getting a tee time, but don't expect anything to write home about! read more

Bf and I played this course on Sunday morning, Its very pretty and very unique. It's a 9 hole, but it turns out many are par 4 and even a few par 5! Nice way to mix it up. The staff is super friendly and happy to help you with anything you need, balls gloves etc. You get a great view of Mckinley Park ~the hustle and bustle of people walking by, music being played, the awesome smell of bbq....if you can't handle a little noise, you shouldn't play here. Parking wasn't a problem for us, but I can see it being an issue on some days when its really nice outside because you share the parking lot with park goers. My only issue was the openness, which is kinda what I like about it too...but hear me out. They should have a small fence or some signage around the course. We had an older couple actually get mad at us because we told them they couldn't just walk in front of us while we were trying to tee off (uummm hello, do you not notice you are walking on to the fairway of a golf course?! The park is across the street!)...we actually almost hit them because they wouldn't move...pretty sure they didn't understand that we paid the play on the course and they were in the wrong. We also had some people walking their dogs bascially on the course...That kinda brought my fun level from a 5 to a 4. Planning another trip before the end of the month, hopefully it will go smoother and I'll be able to give them that 5th star! read more

Yes a golf course with character. It would not be uncommon to find children playing on the greens or people playing outdoor games in the middle of this public park fairway. Simply tee up and take your stroke preying you don't whack somebody with your shot. Inexpensive and challenging this course offers nine pretty cool holes including a par 5 among the 4 par 4's. The 3rd hole par 3 is the signature challenge hole that is a lot of fun. My son has attended the First Tee is Sacramento program for a few years now and he has out grown his youth clubs,I was in the market of looking for some used ones for him and Hank the Manager helped us find some for his height. He was very pleasant helpful, he even gave my son the clubs with a bag as a gift and to get him more involved with the game of golf! We both are really grateful and staff for the program are volunteers but they are always courteous and very attentive to the children. read more

Growing up in the early 50's in nearby Hollywood Park I always looked forward to playing a round of golf at Land Park. I have many good memories playing this course with my buddies during the summer months, and with my Dad in the evenings after he got home from work. Recently, I was fortunate enough to re-group with two of my childhood buddies by playing a round of golf at Land Park. The course remains in great shape and is just as challenging for me now as it was back in my youth. We liked it so much that our plans now include coming here a couple of times a month. read more

The course was nice enough to host the US Kids Golf tournament that my daughter was involved in. This is a nine hole course that is surrounded by William Land park. Constantly we had to wait for people walking across fairways, riding bikes with kids down the middle of the fairways and having people honk and Blair their music on the streets next to many holes. Invest a few bucks more and enjoy another course with less interruptions and distractions. read more
