Feb. 2026 - they may not have extra wide aisles and huge shopping carts. What they do have is a huge and varied inventory. Not just a "take it or leave it" feeling. It reminds me of an old-fashioned hardware store; where you didn't have to buy 100 nails, if you didn't need that many, Besides the expected tools and hardware, they also have gardening supplies, plant specific potting soils, and fertilizers. Charcoal and propane grills. Fireplace pellets, water softeners, and plenty of salt for the snow. They have a few toys for kids, and some culinary tools, the kind you'd expect in a place like Williams-Sonoma. The staff is available and will come over to offer assistance if needed. They also know what they're talking about. They're not glorified check out clerks. So you don't get some mumbo-jumbo answer because they don't know the answer! Someone mentioned that their prices seem high; they seem fairly reasonable to me. After I've found what I'm looking for; I enjoy wandering around the store just to see what's there. It's discovering novel items, or something you've been looking for, but couldn't find in the expected venues that's most enjoyable. read more

My husband went in there at 7:30 am hoping to find a part for a ceiling fan. He showed the part to the girl that was working there. She took him straight to we're the part was that he needed. Twice over the last couple of weeks the owner at William Tell hardware came to the rescue. During lunch time (shorthanded due to lunch time and an employee out sick) she filled my propane tanks in the yard. I would have waited a good amount of time if she didn't. The second time was when she stepped up to my sump pump emergency getting the pump and all required fittings in a minute. They always seem to have time to help with whatever issue you have. read more

Is a great alternative especially for Home Depot as everyone there is very very knowledgeable if you need any small item for the home of course for a small hardware store which is sort of like a mom and pop prices can be a little high but I like supporting a local business as opposed to the big business chains out there I definitely recommend William Tell I shop there frequently read more

I went into the store in need of a replacement door sweep for my shower. I looked and could not find it. I asked at the front counter, and was told where to go and someone would meet me. I did as suggested, and someone appeared. I described again what I needed and was taken to completely different area for regular door sweeps. I said "these are for general doors. I need a sweep for a bathroom shower door." He said "Let me go ask." He left and never came back. I waited a few minutes and then walked out. read more

Went to make two copies of one key, that I had borrowed. Well guess what; both key copies don't work! Left me in a lurch and locked out.

They want you to shop locally. I think that is a great thing. However certain places take advantage of you in times of crisis. William Tell hardware in Hopewell has safety masks, but he sells them for 3X the price of any one else. You want safety masks and want to support local a business, buy your safety masks at Jerricks in Fishkill for half the price. Just saying. read more

Nice little local business but sells items 50% higher than the BIG stores like the Depot. For little screws or small random items this place is great but generic items are very expensive. The customer service also is terrible especially the cashiers. I needed help one time and asked one of the women and they all got annoyed at me because I had a question.....lost my business. read more

I go to William Tell Hardware as much as I could, the people are always friendly and knowledgeable, they seem to have everything tucked somewhere and I prefer to support local small business over the large conglomerate monsters. I must admit I do go to the big chain stores that supply home improvement items but nothing will ever replace a True Hardware Store such as William Tell True Value Hardware. The staff are extremely helpful and polite and know exactly where everything is. Those items you can not find at the big chain home supply can be found here the majority of the time and will be of a higher quality. If they don't have what you are looking for they will point you in the right direction to get what you need to complete that project. I have gone to this store 3 times so far and they ALWAYS have what I am looking for! Super extensive inventory of fasteners, bolts, etc..... As well as almost everything you can imagine a hardware store has. Top notch service, I have never had to hunt around forever to find an associate or have a key made. Unbelievable service! I asked the owner, Dave, to borrow some wood pallets to make a bridge for a Girl Scout ceremony. He offered to lend me a garden bridge. Not only that, but Carrie offered to put it on the truck to our location. I decided to fit it in my van, but Carrie helped me remove my seats and got it in. They were awesome! Went there today to get wood pellets.... they are trying to price gouge. They are trying to charge over $7.00 a bag. Saying the price has gone up. And when we said we were not gonna pay that.. the ass behind the counter said.."we'll we're the only ones that have them". Oh yeah... we went to tractor supply and got them for $5.20 a bag. I have filed a complaint with the better business bureau. They are in ethical and I do not believe I or anyone I know should ever shop there again! read more

Why go to Home Depot or Lowes when you can go to William Tell Hardware in Hopewell Junction? While visiting family recently, we had an emergency situation at home with plumbing. Not only did the owner David assist me with what I needed to do, but after seeing I'm not very hands on....he came to my house after work and fixed the problem. Not only that, he refused to take money for his assistance! Customer Service doesn't get better than that! I am now a customer for life. Buyers BEWARE! After being a William Tell customer for many years you know what to expect, decent service with slightly higher than normal pricing because it is more of a Mom and Pop store unlike Home Depot. Now unfortunately I will be reporting never again will I step foot inside this establishment. Called in on Saturday to see how much a ton of the lognetics pellets would be and was told 279.00. This being a bit higher than normal we were willing because we like the pellets and its William Tell would rather keep the business local. We go to pick them up today Monday to get told the same ton of pellets is now 325.00! After expressing concern that one day ago these were much less they did not care one bit and we were told they will only being going up. Supply and demand. Yet isn't this the same ton from the same shipment that we called on one day ago! Well I am not sure about anyone else but I am not a fan of shady business and this is shady. Buys keep your eyes peeled, this could be the type of thing to take down a small business. read more

I have been to this hardware store for over 35 years. Much of the old employes and the manager call me Mr True Value. I'm there all the time and at one point the employees knew me by my first name. I would walk in and they all would say "Hi Nick".. Many of them have moved on but still, many of them still know my face and that I'm there all the time. I would go there way before Home Deep Crap. Very good local alternative to the big box stores. Floor staff is very knowledgeable of the merchandise, cashiers not so much. Although the staff balks when opened items are returned, I still think it is a good store. Some items a little pricier than big box, but still worth the hassle of driving to Lowe's or Home Depot. The garden selections are WAY better at Sabellico's, but for a bag of soil or additives here/there, True Value is fine. Overall, a solid store. read more

Ok,so I was in this hardware store today.From what I witnessed I will never shop here again and strongly urge every american citizen to boycott this establishment.I overheard a gentleman trying to purchase an outdoor gazebo that was outside and seemed to be the last one sort of a clearance item which was bolted to the parking lot.From what I heard the agreement to purchase was made and the buyer was browsing the store while the gazebo was going to be disassembled the consumer could not be located and when he came to the front and asked about the progress he was confronted by the owners son saying we are not taking that one down and told him just to buy a new one even though the unit had a price on it to be sold as is.this all comes down to the owner telling his son to just get the guy out of the store..well this 20 something year old son proceeded to escort the consumer out of the store as if you would be in a dive bar scuffle.When outside the son of the owner repeatedly asked the consumer to hit him and that he would kick his ass,,Truly a very bizarre way of treating someone who has put his life on the line for all of us..I have never had a problem here but after witnessing this I will never shop here again...To treat a veteran like this is inexcusable.I support local shops.but in this case I will rather go elswhere. read more

I would like to thank Richard J and Joseph for their support in never coming back to this store again and for writing their comments as witnesses. On August 7, 2012 William Tell True Value had a gazebo on display in the front. An employee said I could have the display model at a discounted price and they would even order a new top for it. Just as I was paying and one of their employees was going to get help for me to take it down, the owner and his son said that I was on my own taking it down and that none of their employees were going to help me or give me any tools (it was bolted to parking lot). I decided not to buy it and left very upset. Then I decided I wanted to tell it to their faces instead of calling them on the phone, to tell them that what they did was wrong. When I approached the owner and his son they got really on the offensive and told me to keep it down so that no one else would hear us. I told them no and proceeded to tell them my feelings and they told me to leave and as I did the owner son started talking trash and threaten to "kick my ass" when I was outside. I turned right around and confronted him face to face. He backed-down as I thought he would but continued on telling me to hit him and talk trash. I walked to my truck with him following talking trash and threatened to call the cops. He said that he has a cousin who is an army sergeant that would come after me, I told him to go ahead. I will never go back there ever again and encourage everyone else to stay away. I couldn't believe that they didn't keep their word, but more annoyed at the way they handled the situation. read more
