This is the third time I've posted a negative review of Hartford Healthcare…read moreTo be fair, I truly believe that this is the standard operating procedure these days with big corporate healthcare. I had just two doctors for primary care or family medicine my entire life until the last few years. As a boy, I saw Doctor Carl Conrad until I was 19 years of age and then Doctor Kassem Khyberry for 35 plus years. Both were very professional and both were true country doctors who always made time for patients and were able to handle anything that was brought to them. When Dr. Khyberry retired, his patients were forwarded to Hartford Healthcare PCP Dr. Laura Quan who I fast found to be completely the opposite of the type of care I was accustomed to. On one occasion, I was suffering from what was clearly Shingles and called Dr. Quan's office in an effort to either get seen or at least be given a prescription of anti-viral medication to start the process of controlling the pain and severity of the virus. It was a Friday at approximately 1 pm when I called and I was promised a call back by the doctor, by 4:30 pm I hadn't heard from anyone and called back. I was told that the doctor would call before she left. No call ever came. I was forced to go to a walk-in clinic on Saturday who verified my diagnosis and gave me the meds I needed. I was livid, I called back Dr. Quan's office Monday and was told the doctor wasn't available so I drove down in person to demand speaking to the doctor about her lack of interest and to ask why she couldn't at least return my call. I never got the chance so I wrote a review about the experience and looked elsewhere for a new PCP. I found another Doctor/provider in the Yale New Haven group who took care of my needs for two years before also retiring and this forced me to look yet again for a PCP. Hoping to find a new provider closer to my home I found that Hartford Healthcare had a new APRN Danielle Grillo who had excellent reviews and I started seeing her for my needs and those of my elderly mother whom I care for. All went well for a year or so and then the cracks began to appear. Appointments were being rescheduled; at first once in a while then increasing to my most recent experience which had two appointments cancelled and rescheduled inside of on hour on the same day. I asked what was going on because part of my maintenance is to have regular bloodwork for Diabetes and Ms. Grillo requested that the bloodwork be done just before coming in which caused an issue. I had the tests already performed and then the rescheduling pushed the appointment out so far that it was nearly time for the next scheduled blood draw so the information she wanted to be fresh was not and it was a direct function of not having a stable appointment schedule. Again, to be fair Ms. Grillo is a very nice person, thoughtful, great personality and a good listener but recently it seems that the office can't seem to keep her appointments and this is becoming a problem. I'm not sure if its that they are over booking or if they are trying to have providers serve more than one location, either way it shows that patient care is not the first concern and that is not acceptable when one considers the cost of healthcare today. Large corporations have been hijacking small town medical practices absorbing them into a large "Group" claiming this makes healthcare more cost effective available and streamlined and nothing could be further from the truth. Old country doctors have been described by the new corporate order as dinosaurs when in fact, they were far superior to any of the corporate group physicians currently available and if those types of doctors were still available, I would certainly go to one today. Perhaps people should demand better service for healthcare and let it be known to the big corporate entities that they are not serving their patients better, they are simply charging more and doing less.

It started off that I was in the wrong building but was guided professionally and kindly by staff members where I needed to be . In my appointment area I was met with wonderful reception and called by the doctor's assistant when my time had come and she was wonderful . The doctor I visited was just great , patient , kind and knowledgeable. After I was guided to Radiology where that department also was terrific, the reception there and x-ray technicians did a wonderful job helping me . I was delighted from my first step in the building with everyone that I met and was so pleased to see such kindness and professionalism throughout my time there . Thank you Windham Hospital

I specifically chose this hospital because it was in-network and was repeatedly assured that my care would be covered. I had never been hospitalized or broken a bone and didn't know that the hospital would claim everything would be covered but then assign me a surgeon I'd need to pay for out of pocket. This is suprise billing and is illegal under Connecticut law. This is deeply unprofessional and for those who don't know the laws and how to fight this, it's extremely predatory. If you are in this situation, ask EVERY TIME a new doctor or specialist comes into your room if they are covered by your insurance before accepting ANY care from them. This should not be something you need to worry about when you're hospitalized and they know exactly what insurance you have and who is and isn't in network. Either they are very incompetent, or they are deliberately screwing patients over.

Do not send your children here!!! My child was a patient from January through June of 2025 and we were never allowed to appropriately consent to her provider's being an intern/supervisor team. We never even knew that the individual providing treatment was an unlicensed intern as opposed to a fully licensed clinician. The intern, Genesis Ramon, held herself out as independently licensed through complete and total omission of credentials, supervision level, and authority scope. She did not involve her supervisor once we raised concerns regarding safety and well-being of our child, which Connecticut law mandates interns to do. Clinical attestation by the supervisor, Angel Roubin, occurred retroactively. Anywhere from weeks to almost 2 months after appointments. I pulled her from treatment after Genesis agreed to a treatment plan which was too directly involve us only to completely and totally shut us out. She does not care about patients and only cared about getting her degree and using our child as a guinea pig.

I've been in other medical facilities and never witnessed this type of response. I was truly knocked off my feet. The genuine care that was presented through every step every staff member turning my wife over to the next staff member was complete information from one to the other. Took the time to speak and handoff to the next person with controlled urgency. Witnessing all of this was truly comforting for me cause right then I knew she was going to get the best possible care that one establishment could give. So far 17 days and not one little issue with her care. I cannot be more grateful for every staff member starting with the guard at the front entrance all the way to the doctors, maintenance it goes on and on. Thank you all so much for taking such good care of my beautiful wife and giving me a sense of calmness that cannot be bought it is just given and received with a genuine understanding.

I Kept asking for ativan and the nurses joked to each other about me asking for it saying "They needed ativan". Anyways, as I was saying, the chime on the wall was accompined by a call asking for an ambulance in code. It took her asking like 20 times when I was on the verge of passing out for them to transfer me to a place that was like 5 minutes away, Mount Sinai. The EMT girl on the way hit my arm and left a bruise, when I told her I was nauseous she ripped open an alcohol swab and stuck it in my face, acting like I was a know-it-all saying, "Oh I thought you knew this" she then said she was gonna "sit behind me for the rest of the ride" This was an absolute nightmare, my mrn number was 1835555, and when I was admitted I was in crisis. A police officer from the floor underneath the room they locked me in due to covid said he wanted to "Shoot me in the head 5 times" and all the staff heard. The staff then assured me he "got a call" Quality of care was very neglectful, save for one male nurse. The type of care: They Straight up told me they were doing a "rapid taper detox" Off my benzos I had been taking for 5 years. When I told them I know tapering too fast off benzos can cause brain damage and that I knew depression was mostly situational they didn't care. This was April 5th of 2024, There were a few good nurses but they were mainly a male nurse and Julia, everyone from the front desk workers to nurses act like nothing is their job. There needs to be 1000% more accountability in these work settings, other countries aren't like this. Shout-out Matt and Julia. 1 star, I basically did everything myself at one of my weakest times of my life.
