My family and I have been looking for a new home, and we found a home on Zillow that we decided to…read morego see in person. We called Mike Mumpower since he was the agent on the listing. Mike Mumpower showed my family the house and property, and we fell in love with. We toured for approximately 1.5 hours. At the end of the tour, Mr. Mumpower asked us to sign a "Buyer Touring Form" that he described as "a formality that we had toured the home, that it did not obligate us to anything, and was a way to legally cover him and create a paper trail that we had physically been in the home". We signed after skimming the document. After discussing for several days, we decided we wanted to move forward and make an offer on the home. We decided to move forward with a realtor we had used in the past. Our realtor told us that in fact what we had signed is not what Mike Mumpower had described. She told us that we had signed a document that we would solely work with Mike Mumpower for 30 days or up to 90 days. We were not aware of this. When we requested to terminate the Buyer Touring Form we had signed (our realtor informed us that that should be simple), we were sent back a sloppy document that had been lined through many times to make it fit with our situation with handwritten notes as well as requesting our initials and a termination fee of $5,000. We were shocked, and our realtor was floored. Not only did Mike Mumpower lie, deceive, and manipulate us after we fell in love with a home, but he and Earl Webb Realty are trying to make us pay $5,000 that was never mentioned on any document prior to requesting termination of the Buyer Touring Form signed at the showing. We are saddened and furious that we have missed out on our dream home because Mike Mumpower decided to lie and deceive us.
