In the case of 'Blinds by design', though, my experience was so bizarre that I'm making an exception. ... I found this company on the internet and gave them a call. I spoke with the owner, a self-described retired machinist. He seemed nice, if exceptionally chatty. We made an appointment for 9:00 am the next day. He showed up a tiny bit late, but no big deal. He then came in, and he immediately commented on some blinds we already had in the kitchen. He said, he would never do a shoddy job like that, and I was like, great. He then proceeded to measure the window, and speak with his supplier about what would work best. He talked in a nonstop stream-of-concisouness fashion the entire time. He made some assumptions about what I wanted, but I wasn't sure. He offered to leave some swatches for a couple of days. I said, "let me first check with my wife and see if that's necessary". Unfortunately, I then misspoke. I meant to say, "You say you'll do a good job; so you might as well measure this window too, and there's also one upstairs you can do." The words that came out of my mouth were, "If you'll do a good job, you might as well measure this window too, and there's one upstairs you can do." Five minutes later, when I was done discussing the choice with my wife, he was leaving in a huff. He thought I was suggesting that I wouldn't hire him for the other two windows if he didn't do a good job on the main one for which we had setup the appointment. I do understand how my words did not match my intent. I tried to explain the misunderstanding, but he refused to even listen or consider that I had misspoke. He just left. ... In retrospect, I'm extremely glad we didn't hire him. Even if there was no misunderstanding and I meant what he thought I meant, this should not have been a problem. We made the appointment based on ONLY THE ONE WINDOW. Any potential for other windows was extra business for him. (Never mind the fact that, if I really was testing him, I wouldn't have even mentioned the extra work.) That said, if he wasn't willing to base the extra business on the quality of work from the initial job, then he probably isn't very good at his profession. If his ego is so fragile that he was insulted by the mere suggestion that he might not do a good job, then he probably isn't very confident in his abilities. I'm really happy we dodged this bullet.

    1/5 -- WARNING: This company does not honor its warranties. Do not give them your business…read more I wish I could give zero stars. After spending significant money on window shades and a service contract with a stated LIFETIME product warranty and one-year labor warranty, I am left with defective products and a company that has completely ghosted me. Here's what I'm dealing with: -- The shades have NO temperature control whatsoever -- a fundamental failure for a product sold for climate comfort. -- The strings are physically coming apart, with threads unraveling -- a sign of cheap, low-quality materials that should never have been sold or installed. -- Despite multiple attempts to get service, the company has REFUSED to send a technician, honor the warranty, or even have a professional conversation about resolution. This is not a misunderstanding. The warranty terms are written clearly in the service contract. They are simply choosing not to honor it. Potential customers, please hear this: the professionalism ends the moment your check clears. After that, you are on your own with defective products and a company that will not pick up the phone. We are now taking this matter to court to enforce the contract and hold this company accountable. I am documenting everything and encouraging anyone else who has experienced the same to do the same. Don't make the mistake I made.

    Called the guy and emailed him all my widow sizes for shutters…read more A few days later he text me a price for all 13 windows of $5K. I told him sound good. I ask to see the samples of what the shutters are made of and we set up An appointment for 1:pm on the following day. A different guy who works for him showed up 2 hours late and did not bring me any samples for the shutters. Instead he try to show me roll up blinds. I told him go back home and return with the shutters. It sounds like bait and switch. I called The boss back and was told to buy the roll blinds and he did not have the shutters. The price he gave me was his mistake and could not do it. This place has no office an act like a middle man ordering the window coverings from someone and delivering it to customers. No showroom or samples I found another outfit that did a very professional job from start to finish No lies or games

I had several quotes from several companies and Budget Blinds quote was the most competitive one. Jennifer was very nice and not pushy at all. She even told us we didn't need to replace our honeycombs in dining room next to our living room to faux wood blinds. I was going to because other companies told me it would look better since I am changing my honeycomb in living room to faux wood blinds. But Jennifer said it's a different room and should be fine. I love how she's the owner but didn't try to push us to spend more money. I am planning to change those honeycombs to faux wood blinds next year and will definitely use their company again! In term of installation, I don't know his name but the installer was very nice, polite, and friendly. The blinds are also very good quality.

I was scheduled for an hour and a half appointment to get a quote…read more Charlene arrived on time with samples of products and a willingness to discuss what I needed. I knew that I wanted to spend as little as possible and she didn't try to pressure me into buying something more expensive. Surprisingly, our meeting took almost the entire time. After I had decided what I wanted, she came up with the quote on her laptop. She told me how much and emailed me the quote. (Their quote was cheaper than the other quotes I got.) Once I signed the quote and submitted a 75% deposit, they ordered the blinds. They told me that it would take several weeks to get the blinds after being ordered. Once the blinds arrived, they set up an installation appointment. James (installer) arrived within the designated appointment window and went to work. He was very efficient and professional. He even gave me some hints about the use and cleaning of the blinds. I was very happy that I used this company. I would use them again.
