I called and spoke with Jeff about getting some shades for a couple windows on my house. He just got back from vacation and was swamped with work, I told him not to worry and call me when you catch up. 3 weeks went by and finally he came out to my home to look at job. We agreed to move forward on the shades and he was to come out the next day at 5 to place order with me and take the measurements. He text me at 6:30 that he was minutes away from arriving, but I had another engagement for the evening and told him we would need to reschedule. You would think he would be interested in making up for not showing up and take the initiative to reschedule with me as soon as possible. Once again Im thrown to the back of the line! We ordered 8 Duette Honeycomb cellular shades from Jeff, the owner of Sunset Screens & Shades. Before Jeff came out to do the estimate, we had gotten 2 other estimates for cellular shades from 2 other companies. When Jeff came out, he pointed out the shades would not be able to completely recess in an inside mount the way our window frames were because the windows used to have shutters. He recommended that we make some minor modifications to the window frames. The first 2 companies never mentioned that! It was not something that we wanted to hear but we made the modifications and the shades hang perfectly! Jeff did the installation and he made sure they hung just right. Great attention to detail. His prices were competitive. We very glad we ordered these shades from him. Had we gone with one of the other companies there was no way these shades would have had such a perfect flush recessed inside mount. Plus he recommend going with a larger cell size on the larger windows that looked great. (Again the other companies didn't mention that.) read more

We called for an estimate on two [almost] Black Out Screens for two windows where the sun floods into our home in the country in the afternoon. Jeff was out in a couple of days and insisted on explaining and demonstrating the various levels of black out and visibility of the different products to make sure that we understood exactly what we would be purchasing. It was a wonderful exercise conducted by a knowledgeable and patient coach who knows his stuff. We made a tentative decision and requested a couple of larger samples of our two possible choices which were sent out from the factory within a week...great service and especially when you know that we are still waiting for samples from another Shade provider that ordered us samples two years earlier. Jeff followed up every step of the way. Upon receipt of the samples and his estimate including matching valances we gave him the go ahead. Within four or five days Jeff came back to our home to re-measure each opening and make sure that every detail, hanging location, both height and width were discussed and agreed upon so that all would be correct...wow, talk about good service and eliminating errors!! The blinds came out about three weeks later, earlier than promised, and he came out to do the installation himself. He is pleasant, helpful and insistent on making sure that his customers are satisfied...which we are some seventeen months after the installation. Not a moment of trouble with the blinds [one on a manual system and one on a battery operated remote]. About 85% of the afternoon sun is blocked/filtered, and we can still see our gardens and trees outside. It's a perfect solution and as soon as we can decide on where else we may need shades Jeff is the one we will call for his professional, competent, and fair work, pricing and attitude. I've had my screens for a little over two years now. My five-star rating is for the product and for Jeff, who installed the screens. I've recommended these screens to several people. I have two phantom window screens and a door screen. The screens work wonderfully. I can get lots of air flow and my view isn't obscured. One of my windows had handles that made installation of the screen difficult. Jeff found and installed new handles that work even better than the original. I get comments on the door screen all the time. It's so transparent that I sometimes forget it's there. I and my guests have walked through it a few times, but it's designed in such a way that it safely snaps back when someone walks through it. Last year I managed to dislodge one of my screens and Jeff came over and fixed it in a snap. Now I know how to fix it myself should I ever get it off the track again. read more

His personality is detailed oriented and given so many quick turnaround operations we seem to have now days he seems to be true rare good find. Good example - The retractable screen concept has been appealing to me for years The install for my front door I knew was going to go smooth but the back door of my house is not square. I don't want to get too technical here but he essentially ran the calculations for how far off 45 degrees the door jams were, went to his work truck and re-cut the ends with matching angles. Love Love Love! Jeff came over after we had already had two other companies come out and give us estimates and he was a breath of fresh air. The other two people told us our space was too big to shade, but he reassured us that it was not. They also quoted us at a much higher price than Jeff did. He took measurements, had lots of samples, explained things thoroughly and was great to work with. He had a detailed quote back to us within a few days and the shade was installed within a month of us giving him the green light. We asked for the shade to be installed before the 4th of July and he said it was a long shot, but that he would try. Guess what, he made it happen... on the 3rd of July, just in time for our big party and we used it that day and it was awesome. We love the shade and the quality and look of the product. I think Sunset Screens does amazing work. I recently had a pretty standard, retractible screen door project. Jeff was willing to come to my house to give me an estimate and he installed it as well. The second project I had was a large custom shade which was a bit tricky but he figured out the best way to do it and I love it. Additionally I felt he came up with creative options at different price points so you can choose -- he pays attention to detail. He wasn't trying to sell the most expensive things. I accidentally ran into Jeff at Sunset Screens when I was given his number by the folks at Clearview. Clearview installed the first sliding screen when I lived in the East Bay and I was disappointed that they did not service Marin.. I was fortunate to have been referred to Jeff. An unusual thing happened after Jeff came out, measured, proposed and I ordered the screen. A few days prior to the install date, my front entry door became inoperable. Hence, I needed a new entry door. Jeff was so understanding when I told him the project was on hold until the new door arrived in a month. He told me to give him a call when the door was in so he could run over between other jobs to take another measurement to make sure the screen ordered would fit. That was a good call. The screen ended up needing some adjustments, which Jeff did today on-sight. Not only that, he ended up having to remove some trim that wasn't part of the original entry door frame. Amazing! The screen is perfect! And, he didn't charge more than his original proposal, even with the extra work! I would highly recommend that you work with Jeff on your screen and shade projects.
