The office was so cosy and staff combined made the environment the most kid and family friendly place we've ever been to. Everyone seemed to be like family and are children were treated as such! Our son was allowed to wander the halls and one of the nurses helped him find a book to read instead of watching a show on our phone. Dr. Hanten is big on kids being kids and doesn't treat them like mini adults that need to keep quite. We had our son on our phone so she could treat our daughter, but she said that he didn't need to be on that thing, and that if kids aren't making noise and poking around, they aren't being kids! She must have taken over an hour giving us advise and parenting tips that would help us in the long run. I've never had that much support from a Dr! I felt like I've gained a friend, a family of doctors I can take my kids to throughout childhood, and a parent coach as well! We'll be seeing her again! We have to drive an hour to get to the clinic, but its totally worth it.

On our first visit, she personally spent over an hour with us basically addressing all the concerns our son's previous pediatrician had ignored. She spent more time with us on this initial visit than his previous pediatrician had spent in at least eight visits combined. Dr. Hanten always take the time to listen and address all your questions in addition to giving you additional advice including behavior management, which is helpful for first time parents. We live in La Mesa, and drive to Alpine to see her. If you are looking for an excellent pediatrician, she's definately worth the drive.

Ok, so I reluctantly made an appointment for my "woman" check-up. Reluctantly not just because no woman likes to be poked and prodded, but because my "monthly visitor" was scheduled to come around that time. I explained this to them, but that's the earliest appointment I could get. So anyway, as expected, my visitor arrived and I was forced to re-schedule. And btw, this wasn't the first time I had to re-schedule for the exact same reason. So I arrive at the clinic and it looked deserted. And that was because it was. Apparently, the person who re-scheduled my appointment made it on a day when the doctor wasn't there. Uh, what? So again, another re-schedule. I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to post a update on this because that would rely on the fact that I'd actually go in for an appointment...

During those…read moreyears, I have been through some HORRENDOUS situations, all of them caused by the staff working for the pain doctors. From having to sit in waiting rooms for over three hours at my appointments every 30 days to not getting my prescriptions filled in time because the staff didn't fill out the necessary paperwork, to showing up for my appointment and then telling me they scheduled me on the wrong day... I have gone through it all! However, once I found Dr. Lao (Spectrum Pain & Spine), EVERYTHING CHANGED FOR THE BETTER!!! I don't know how she does it on her own, but the doctor's wife, Mrs. Lao, runs the entire office completely by herself! With such a heavy workload and no help, you'd expect her to be overwhelmed and irritable, but if she is, she certainly doesn't show it! Mrs. Lao is always friendly and kind. Both her and Dr. Lao are always patient, never rushing me, and they me feel like they genuinely care. I've been to 4-5 other pain management doctors, and had bad experiences with every single one of them. Because Mrs. Lao is so organized and obviously cares about what she does, I haven't run into a single problem!! Unlike my experiences in the past, I never have to wait more than five minutes in the waiting room, I haven't had any issues obtaining my prescriptions, and most importantly, Dr. and Mrs. Lao treat me like a human being!!! Without all of the stress from hassling with the staff at former pain doctor offices, my pain is the most manageable it has been in DECADES!!! In fact, I'm so pleased with the way they take care of me that I am now paying out-of-pocket to see Dr. Lao since my insurance no longer covers him. I don't have extra money to do that, so that illustrates just how happy I am with them!!! If only all pain doctors and their staff ran their offices the way they do at Spectrum Pain & Spine!

This 5 star review is for him and the way San Ysidro Health now run things so you will know the recent changes to the office have kept it up to previous standards if not better! However when I went back to have my 3 month old glasses that only get used during a 40 hour work week had the screw come out completely. I went back to Alpine office only to be treated really rude by the older, white lady, the one assigned to give you glasses to try on. She refused to assist me further after she fixed my glasses. Then I spoke to the office manager Ari.... who assured me I would get some kind of follow up for this situation yet I never got a phone call. I still want to know where do I report this employee unwelcome service where she is paid to be helpful. Give me the information to report employee who are disrespectful and refuse service to patients. This happen in July 2025.
