My kids were particularly fond of the wooden dollhouse and the play kitchen. Also available were computers with headphones. Many kids were taking advantage of these and playing games. We also saw a number of raffles going as an incentive to get the kids reading over the summer months. The standout observation I had about this place was how many books they had for sale! Quite a selection! We are in from out of town so that was a nice option to grab something for the kids for the road that we didn't have to worry about returning, and the prices were fair at .50 for most and 1.00 for kids hardcover. Definitely seemed like the selections were geared more towards a kids library.

The passport stamp, which is every library is handing out a unique sticker and after visiting all 37 libraries in Erie County, and if you are the first 1,000, will receive a gold library card. It goes from May 1 through Aug. 31., 2026. I love that the local garden club made a little dish garden. It brightened up the space. I was there on a Tuesday close to 6pm, when they closed, but the library was bustling. It was great to see.

I was there in early May when everything is just starting. They had a little library book sale and I picked up a David Sedaris book for a quarter. There is a great children's section. There is also a wonderful remembrance area for Flight 3407, in the back. This library also had a cute Sherlock Holmes display case that was donated to the library. This library is clean and beautifully maintained. The librarians were friendly as well. There is a large parking lot. For a Friday afternoon it was quite busy. They had a great work area for people wanting a quiet space.

Plus they were open later, which is convenient for us. So after work, off we went. The Clarence Library has plenty of parking in a big lot, which was light-and-bright on a cold, dark night. As soon as you walk in, you can see the full expanse of the vaulted, open space. It is a nice-sized library, with well-marked sections. Movies are to the right, adult books to the left, teen and children materials in the back, periodicals in the back-right corner, with all the other sections you'd expect to find at a library somewhere in between. There were computer workstations spread out in pod-like setups throughout the space, a few together in each pod, and some chunks of seating areas too. It took me a minute to find my Harry Potter items, as the books were not in Youth or YA, but rather in a separate "Series" section in the middle of the library. And the movies were in a separate "Family Viewing" section, too. But a friendly librarian helped me find everything that I needed, which was all in stock. Clarence is a very nice, bright, inviting library. When we need something and the hours/availability are convenient again at Clarence Library, we'll be back! :-)

If I am ever in that area, I would like to sit there and cozy up with a book, or do some uninterrupted work. There was also an art show happening with pieces from students in Amherst. What talent. The librarian was kind and enthusiastic about the program. The playground out in front looked wonderful with many children utilizing it. This is a bright, beautiful space offering so much besides the usual library things. It looked like there were a bunch of meeting rooms as well.

I stopped in on a nice day so the library was pretty quiet, making it a good spot to get work done. What's special about this library is that it has a big Teen space, as well a community puzzle. Additionally, there's a nice travel section including travel DVDs, as well as a dedicated Christmas section. There are parking spots in front of the building. The bathrooms were well kept. Staff was really friendly too. Would come back here to hangout and get work done if I was in the area.

The Toddler Time sessions with Ms. Laurie are super fun and will help you get to naptime. There's no registration necessary like some of the other local libraries. And beyond books and media they have many computers, toys and a scavenger hunt for little folks.

There is something for everyone, and I could seriously get lost combing the aisles for books all day. They have a media section as well, one that my friend sings praises over as she binges on new music and movies. And sometimes, when you're lucky, the first floor is flooded with old books looking to be rehomed. Don't wait for the sale, come explore, and keep coming.

On a more recent visit, picking up classic movies..both MA MA Mias...I found my self checking out their bulletin board on upcoming events. This is what brings me to my review....events and things to do were a variety for kids and adults. This particular library has adult color kits, and had a sign posted for paint night. Glad to have signed up...Kim our intrustor was helpful and patient for any of us with questions. There were a total of 13, with the instructor. The event was a creative, simple and each of us had different interpretations of the original painting. A bonus for all of us, Kim is an elementary art teacher. My quest to explore various Erie Country library branches had us landing in Lancaster last week…read more WOW, what a beautiful branch! It's an expansive, open main space with a dome-shaped vaulted ceiling adorned with big glowing orbs of bright light. A bit poetic of a description maybe, but this space really feels poetic. Even if you don't need anything from the library, it would be worth a visit. There is a massive copper fireplace, such a darling place to relax or study, just a lovely aesthetic in general here. If you are coming for particular resources, there's a good chance that the Lancaster location has what you need. There are many cubicle-style computer workstations in the middle of the room. In the front adjacent to a big wall of windows is the children's area. My son had fun with the legos and other blocks, as well as found a cozy spot to do his homework. There are several rows of DVDs and CDs along the middle-side wall, with the opposite wall housing stacks and stacks of books in all the genres you'd expect. Magazines are in the back near the fireplace. I like the "new" displays at this library, and actually came across a new book I forgot I wanted to read (the newer Demi Moore tell-all biography, winning!), plus there were newly released DVD and CD racks too. Perusing the rows and rows of materials to find something that catches your eye can be intimidating in any library, so I appreciate when librarians take time to showcase new offerings that may spark interest. Parking for this library is in the rear off of a side road, and there is plenty of it. When you enter the back door, it is a flight of stairs or an elevator ride to get up a level to the main space. The main space has some vending options if you want a beverage or snack. And there appears to be lots of community programming happening her too, with racks of flyers and many bulletin boards of happenings for people of all ages and varying interests. Checkout the library website for specifics. I really enjoyed hanging out here for a couple hours with my husband and son. My son did his homework, played with toys, he and his dad played checkers for a while, we all relaxed and read a bit, and found some things to bring home. What more could you ask, the Lancaster library is a very pleasant, solid branch. Come and enjoy!
