You get up close to the hoodoos and see lots of beautiful vantage points in the park. It was closed for a while in early 2026 because of a mud slide but reopened in March and as far as I know has remained open since I was there in April 2026. You can do this hike either clockwise (starting near sunrise viewpoint) or counterclockwise (starting near sunset viewpoint). I was recommended to do it clockwise. There was plenty of parking near sunrise view point, I had no trouble on a Sunday in early April. Took me a couple hours to do the whole thing from start to finish. Overall if you have time for only one hike in Bryce, this is the one I'd rec! You'll see so many iconic and beautiful spots here.

It's stunning. The hoodoos towering over everything are some of the coolest things I've ever seen. The trail is well maintained, but I'd be mindful of footwear. I saw people doing this in Uggs and sneakers. There's a lot of loose gravel/rock, so I think boots are important. The climb back up is strenuous, so take breaks and plenty of water (even in winter)

The hike will lead you along the canyon rim to a beautiful waterfall. There is a nice platform above the waterfall to take some nice scenic pictures. The hike only takes about an hour round trip. Plenty of parking at the parking lot and they also have restrooms as well. Steep drop offs along this hike so please be careful with little children.

I was recommended this hike by my Airbnb host. It's rather short, took me about 20 min total…read more Parking is limited but because it's short I got lucky and got a spot from someone leaving. There are a couple NP potties there (no running water). There wasn't much water the day I came, you could see a trickle of the waterfall but it wasn't particularly exciting. Depending on the time of year, that can change. Overall, I wouldn't have spent time doing this hike if I hadn't been passing by it (but I was, on my way to Capitol Reef). But if you are passing, it's a nice walk with a little hill :)

I don't think I'll enter Bryce Canyon any other way except through the Tropic Trail. The trailhead is accessed at the end of the dirt road in Tropic, UT. The elevation gain is very gentle on this trail. It is 3.5 miles out & back. This trail connects directly to the Navajo Loop and access to Peekaboo and Queens. It is a long walk but far less strenuous. You can enjoy the hike without having to hike out the top of the canyon. It is a great way to enter Bryce Canyon without the crowds. We hiked on Friday April 8th so the trail was dry and gravel trail. Fairly easy walk, very quiet and peaceful! It's sunny on some parts of the trail but there was shade on most of the Tropic Trail. I decided to walk a bit further to check out the switchbacks and the view of the amphitheater on the Navajo Loop trail, the trail adjacent to Thor's Hammer. Wall Street was closed off to hikers when we arrived at Navajo Loop so you cannot do the entire Navajo Loop. The best part about entering Bryce Canyon from Tropic Trail is that once you're done hiking, it is all downhill to your vehicle. Plus lots of decent places to eat and grab essentials in Tropic. Highly recommend!!

Thanks to the geologic process of uplifting & erosion, the sheer forces of nature, there's a…read morehammer-like shaped hoodoo in Bryce Canyon also known as "Thor's Hammer." The Two Bridges trail from Sunset Point is the best way to view and access the hammer up close! On Nov 27, 2021, it was approximately 47degF. Pretty good walking/hiking weather if you ask me! Our 10-min trek down the red dirt path was a piece of cake. Thor's Hammer is a spectacular site amongst all the other hoodoo's in the amphitheater. The trail continues on, but no need to go farther if you just want to see the hammer. Walking back up the trail? Now that's another story. Between the elevation and incline, it may take you more than 10-minutes to return to the plateau. Just take your time and soak in the incredible views of Bryce Canyon!

There ain't a lot to do out in Escalante. Why not drive down a long, bumpy dirt road to a garden…read moremade for the Devil? If your vehicle can do it, definitely go down there. The drive is pretty boring. Straight, not a lot to see. But when you arrive, holy moly, it's amazing. First, WHY is this group of formations out here? There's nothing like it nearby? Fascinating! There is a dirt parking area and some of those wooden information signs that are hardly legible from the years of sun and sand. Such a delightful adventure to run and play among the hoodoos, arches, sand and rocks. It really did invoke a sense of wonder for me. It was worth every boring mile to get there and get back.

Peek-a-boo is tight, fun and fairly easy with amazing colors and really interesting rock…read moreformations. Spooky is a lot harder. We had a guide, Gary, from Roam outdoor adventures and glad we did. His help in navigating how to get down from spots through the rocks/boulders that can be rather daunting and dangerous. Though the slots aren't really long, navigating through them is not a quick pass through. They take time. The site could use some signs to get people to start at the right side. Some start at the wrong end and there is no place in these slots for anyone to pass by you. It can get really hot in the summer so 2 liters of water is recommended along with snacks. The ruts in the road can be passed by in a regular car but you will wind up with loose bolts. The road is partially paved there and dirt the rest of the way. Very dusty. Excellent experience. No fee required but donations at the parking lot and restrooms appreciated. Please pack out what you packed in and leave no trace. Some have started writing on the walls of these areas and it's not only awful to have to see but ruins these old sights for everyone. Very disappointing.

Let me set the record straight, slot canyons are my jam! I will go anywhere there is an opportunity…read moreto walk, shimmy, or rappel into a slot canyon. I just think they are the most interesting Mother Nature created places to explore. We came here on a July 4th holiday with some friends of my husbands. The road out here can be rough in spots and does require a 4X4 to get out here, but we made it safely to the canyon. These slot canyons are located within the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument in the beautiful state of Utah. This land is run by the BLM. Talk about beautiful! The canyon walls with their orange/red colored Navajo sandstone just envelopes you as you walk through this slot canyons. So many twists and turns with lots of crevices to peer or climb into. Be sure to pack plenty of water, sunscreen, good trail shoes (not Skechers HA! HA!), a hat and a small pack so you can move through the slot canyons comfortably. Both of these canyons are so worth the drive and the time. Most of all remember to Leave No Trace. Happy Adventuring!

We did Willis Creek Narrows and Lower Calf Creek Falls - both incredible. Now adding to the wish list for return trips. The drive along US 12 is just spectacular. Definitely recommend a high clearance vehicle with 4WD to access some of the more remote locations. Be prepared to adventure and bring what you need as this is not a manicured national park, but more a haven for those looking for an off-grid escape.

I'm not exaggerating when I say I pulled off the road maybe every 50 feet because every new angle provided a new exciting view of this vast and beautiful stone monument. In general this is a HUGE monument to explore and I'm not sure you could even scratch the surface on a simple vacation, let alone during a road trip. I've since come to learn that this area was the last part of the lower 48 states to be cartographed and, according to the Bureau of Land Management, it spans five life-zones - from low-lying desert to coniferous forest, and paleontologists have unearthed countless dinosaur bones and fossils from within its canyons and deserts. Truly incredible stuff, here! But don't let the size and scope intimidate you. As I said, even driving by or taking a day or afternoon to explore is worth the journey. It's an incredible resource that we're lucky to have here in the US.
