Living Well at Willow Grove Apartments As I sit in my home watching work crews clear snow from the driveway, front paths, and walkways, I'm reminded--yet again--of just how great apartment home living can be at Willow Grove in Danbury, Connecticut. After owning four homes, I made a conscious decision to simplify my life and actually enjoy where I live--without the constant responsibility of exterior upkeep. At Willow Grove, that decision has paid off in every way imaginable. And yes, while not worrying about snow removal is a gift, they also take exceptional care of the inside of the homes as well. Located right on the Danbury-Ridgefield line, Willow Grove is, quite simply, a wonderful place to live. While the community has been around for a while, the homes are genuinely unparalleled in both layout and livability. The Homes: Each unit has its own private entrance. I live in one of the larger units, where guests enter and head upstairs into a space that feels like a true residence--not an apartment. Most residences are single-level; mine spans three floors: A main living floor with two en-suite bedrooms (one serves as my studio/office) each with full baths. A cathedral-style living room with a 14+ foot ceiling and gas fireplace. A third-level space serves as an exercise area, reading room, and hangout for my kids when they're in town. Off the main living room is a lovely outdoor porch--perfect for morning coffee or a quiet evening. The galley kitchen is smartly designed with all the modern bells and whistles, and the laundry room has been fully upgraded by management (and yes, it was time--and very well done). Grounds & Maintenance: The grounds at Willow Grove are meticulously maintained, with crews tending to them almost daily. And the maintenance team--especially Nick and Juan--are, as the song goes, simply the best. They're caring, hardworking, and always ready to step in when you need them most. Last year I caused a flood (entirely my fault), and Nick drove out in the middle of the night on a Saturday to save the day. If you've ever owned a home or townhouse, you know that kind of responsiveness is almost unheard of. Management: I cannot say enough good things about the management team here. Melissa, the General Manager, is caring, present, and genuinely special in the way she holds space for the entire community. One of her finest decisions was bringing back Carlyne, the Assistant GM. I originally rented my home from Carlyne in July of 2019, and she is quite simply one of the best people I've ever met--warm, dedicated, and deeply committed to every resident she works with. She left for a few years to pursue other opportunities, but she's back now... and frankly, we're never letting her go. The Bottom Line: For anyone considering a rental in the Danbury/Ridgefield area, I can say without hesitation: you will not find a better place to hang your hats and boots than Willow Grove. The team here genuinely cares. The homes are immaculate. And when issues arise, they are handled with a level of dedication that truly matters. I felt compelled to write this review because too often we only hear about what's wrong. These days, there's plenty of funk going around. Willow Grove is the opposite of that. It's a safe haven--a place you can return to, or stay in, that adds peace, love, tranquility, and joy to your life. I've signed eight leases here, so I feel confident saying I know what I'm talking about. After living in four homes of my own and numerous rentals before that, choosing Willow Grove has been the best living decision I've ever made. We cosigned for our youngest, and within 30 days we regretted getting involved with Bozzuto. We all counted the days until the lease was up. They promised a move-in special, and a discount for individuals who worked at the pharmaceutical company across the street. Once we signed the lease, the promises went away, and the people working in the office got nasty. We should have gotten everything in writing. There were several reoccurring serious plumbing issues and leaks that were patched but never truly fixed. The office workers were so odious we tried reaching out to Bozzuto proper several times, and each time they directed us back to the rats in the office. Move out day finally happened and we are rid of Bozzuto for good. read more

First time living in an apartment and it is great. Hardworking maintenance staff fixes everything within 24 hours (replaces light bulb, fixes dryer, leaky toilet, plugged tub). Who needs a spouse if you have Bozzuto. My EX never fixed anything in 24 hours! The grounds are like a botanical garden and very well maintained. No more shoveling snow! The quiet serene pool is perfect, with scenic views, comfy lounge chairs and just as nice as any 4 star hotel. Great bark park. Safe quiet area, friendly neighbors. The gym is tiny. The unit has a cathedral ceiling with a loft that is bright even on a cloudy day. Reasonably priced for Fairfield County. Love it here! read more

I've lived in a number of places due to the transient nature of my job and this place was the WORST of them all. In the one year that we lived there, we had more issues than I can even list. During the first month, we had to pay for a weekend at a local hotel because we had no heat during the winter. We spent several weekends in 90 plus temps in our unit while they tried to fix our AC in the summer. We finally paid $400 for a unit to cool off our master enough to keep our son and ourselves from heat stroke. As if losing your heat in the winter and your AC in the summer isn't enough, we also dealt with gas leaks, broken dishwasher, irrigation reconstruction, shoddy construction, broken handrails that were never fixed, and the list goes on. Please do not be taken in by move in offers here. This place is awful. read more

Where do I begin? Luxury my ass. They are the cheapest company treating residents like shit. Discrimination in raising the rent every year. There is no set amount so they choose a percentage starting at 20% if they want you out. Bathrooms are from the assisted occupancy they bought the building from. Apartments are FREEZING in the winter. Has and electric was tripled this past year. Dogs allowed to win in pool. Pool not open for summer. Land aping companies from craigslist. The property is a dump. They have some balls asking for lease renewals at a 20% increase. We haven older community on fixed incomes. They don't care. Gym is a joke. It's a shithole. read more

Please understand that this is a first for us, renting an apartment. So we had lots of concerns. Well, I have to say that Tessa, Alex and team have been fabulous. Our apartment is spotless and very clean! Everything is in perfect working order. We have a wonderful view of the woods from our patio. The neighbors are quiet and respectful. When we did have a couple of requests for service, Alex was on the spot within 24 hours (they weren't emergencies! Will Grove is almost like having your own home. Love the clubhouse, exercise center and the can do attitude of the Willow Grove team. I would highly recommend our village to anyone, young or young at heart. I lived at Willow Grove for 2 1/2 years. It's is a well-maintained complex in a serene location, but what truly sets it apart are the people who work there. I can't say enough complementary things about Carlyn in the office. She truly goes out of her way to make you feel you're home and will always take that extra step to make sure you have a pleasant living experience. Alex in maintenance takes pride in his work and was always quick with the repairs. They were both always a pleasure to deal with. The pool is outstanding and the dog run is a plus. Safety is not an issue and the people who live there were very friendly . It is comparatively priced with similar apartment complexes in the area, but I found the intangibles set it apart. If I had not bought my own place I'd still be there today. read more

Lived here 3.5 years and service was poor. Maintenance, in general, is undermanned and inattentive. Trust me, you will have maintenance issues as the construction is low quality. We had a number of issues including a burst water heater (took almost 2 weeks to fix, no hot water during that time), a ceiling leak that resulted in the dismantling of our ceiling, a broken toilet that clogged every use (never fixed), a dryer that took 3 runs to dry clothes (multiple maintenance visits, never fixed) and many other small things that were difficult to get addressed. In our 3.5 years there the rent went from $1300/mo to $1800/mo and that was way too much for what you got in return. The grounds are poorly kept and we had terrible drafts through all windows and doors. There isn't enough parking in the right places. When we left, management put us on the hook for $1800 in "damages", much of which was normal wear and tear. For instance, $800 to repaint - probably included the ceiling that was poorly put back together after the leak. $500 to replace the white carpet after almost 4 years of use. Good luck keeping that clean. $125 to reseal the subflooring due to pet odors (mind you that you pay $50 extra a month to have a small dog), and $350 to replace the cheap vinyl flooring in the bathroom because it started peeling (nice we are on the hook for that). I guess management feels they can charge you to maintain their cheap apartments that fall apart. I can't think of anything positive to say about this location. When we moved out they screwed us on the charges and we almost missed closing on our mortgage because they said it was "company policy" to not provide proof of rent. Thanks guys! read more

The management staff is friendly and very helpful/responsive. The maintenance is top notch. Lastly - they do a great job keeping the place looking good and excelled at snow removal.. I lived here for a year between 2010-2011. The actual apartment space was fine and we didn't mind living there, but I think its overpriced. Very generic. My main criticisms of Willow Grove, which obviously make a big difference, is their lack customer service and the price. I thought the staff was very rude. When we first signed our lease I asked about what additional payments we would have to take care of and a month later I came to find out that not everything had been disclosed. In the end, what really made me upset were the additional charges that we received post move-out. In my opinion they were incorrect and I left numerous messages with the staff but never got an actual call back or answer. When I finally just paid the fee because I wanted the whole thing over with, they cashed the check the next day and I still haven't received a call. I wouldn't necessarily tell someone not to live at Willow Grove, but I would say that they should be prepared for rude, unknowledgeable staff and a company that is in it to get every nickel and dime that they can. read more

Lived here going on 5 yrs..when they market willow grove as 'apartment homes' its true. Small enough to know your neighbors, spread out enough for feeling of privacy. Staff is the best! On-site maintainace is a real plus...always available for any emergency. Office staff is open & helpful. One feels valued by management at willow grove. Summers are like being on vacation..pool people friendly & we love to just 'hang'...pool is well maintained, crowded on weekends (as it should be) yet private during the week..guests are welcome & grill is available. Views from the pool & back patios are soul settling, nice private courtyard entrances.did I mention neighbors here have often become friends. Guess we like it here. read more

Now in my 6th year and don't want to move. The staff gets to know the residents which is unusual in this busy world and appreciated that they always recognize and call you by name. Amazingly fast service for emergencies and non-emergency issues. Good upkeep of property too. It's a friendly community of neighbors. We practically fell in love with the options showed to us today. We're only looking right now so I don't have comments on the living quality but it's a nice community with a friendly staff. Fitness center is small but pool looks big. Caroline said they recently lowered their garage parking monthly fee which sounds like they're really thinking of their residents. We loved the views and were overall impressed by what it has to offer. It's seems quiet, you get a front door instead of a common space/hallway door. The location is nice and peaceful, next to a nature area, with some wild animals and many birds. The maintenance is very fast responding to emergencies and repair requests. However, the appliances are outdated. Most importantly, snow and ice removal services in the winter are not keeping up with the needs, which often creates dangerous conditions. There are no carports. They only have a few garages, so most people have to dig their cars out of the snow and ice. read more

The only reason this place even got a star is cuz we met some great people there. Our apartment was worn, patched and kind of fixed, but poorly. Maintenance sucks. Had to call them numerous times for same problems because they couldn't fix it right the first time. Place got recently sold and the new management is absolutely clueless and unprofessional. All I kept getting was "I don't know's". Donna's been there for years and she's the only one with any clue. Unfortunately, her boss is the opposite. This made the place uncomfortable. It used to be nice when I moved in but quickly went down the hill when new management took over. We had to brake our lease to move to another state for jobs, and all I wanted was a bill in writing so I could submit to my employer... Instead of customer service and giving me the bill, I got a call from collections threatening to sue me?!! How unprofessional! They had my phone number, they had my new address, yet they just wouldn't work with me. They wouldn't even give me a bill. Living there was somewhat average but leaving the place was a nightmare. DO NOT LIVE HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ugh the people in the office really aren't friendly! All they want is your money and after you move in they couldn't care less about you. They have poor communication skills and are ZERO HELP if you need anything. They take all your money it's a rip off to live in a place like this. having two animals in the apartment really blew my budget for the month. On top of spending $1600 for rent and utilities are NOT included what so ever! They get you before you even move in for $250 for "amenties fees" (Complete BS) total profit for them. Then they get you if you have perfect credit which I do- $500 for a deposit which is great until you move out and they tell you there is no way you will be getting your whole security deposit back. Honestly. I'm not hurting for $500 but it's the principality of it considering I paid a $300 NON-REFUNDABLE pet fee, then a $500 deposit for the apartment before I even moved in then an additional $80 every month for a year for two animals and they give you some bogus reason as to why you don't get all of your security deposit back. I worked my butt off to get my apartment into tip top shape again before I moved out so I did get 90% of it back. I was really happy about that! So glad I moved out and am done with that apartment. As for the actual apartment, the entire thing is WHITE kitchen counters are white, stove tops are white, sink, walls, carpet. EVERYTHING IS WHITE. How can you live there for a whole year and not have a small scrape or dents in the walls? The place I live now is very nice- utilites include and the price is $670 all in! security deposit was large but if you treat the apartment nicely then we will get the whole thing back. As for management- They're terrible. Since I have lived there they have given me more problems on top of more problems. Tim is completely unprofessional and for a lack of better words-USELESS! He does NOTHING to help you. He doesn't go above and beyond for ANYONE that lives there. If you ask for a favor or help with someone they might as well spit in your face. They couldn't care less. I got to the point where I didn't even try. He needs to be let- go. He has no people skills, and he honestly doesn't care about helping anyone. Dominick is O.K.- He would be a lot nicer if he didn't have Tim as a manager. When I moved in he seemed really nice and knowlegeable. As soon as I moved in and paid first months rent he couldn't give a crap less. They are so nice to you before you even move in and then when you're in the apartment they ignore you and treat you like you don't even exist. The whole "FREE" pizza and icecream in the club house- (COMPLETE LIE) You're paying for all of that when you pay your rent and when they keep your security deposit! You're paying for the "luxury apartment experience". Other than all of this crap I've listed above... If you happen to live here take full advantage of the pool! The gym is so lame. not even a full gym and they want you paying for amenties? HAH! -Don't bring pets. live on the ground floor! It is nice and close to I-84 and very quiet! Nice place to walk around and enjoy the weather (especially in the summer). other than that... Don't live there. I'm sure there is another place in the area that will treat you much nicer and offer a much better living experience. Try Crown Point over on Ridgebury road. Its 5 minutes away from TGM and they are so much nicer. I wish I lived there instead. read more

All of the other reviews say that it's a bad place, but I disagree. I cannot comment about how it was under the old "TGM" management company, however I can say that the new management company seems to be better liked among the residents. The apartments are nice because they've been renovating them before tenants move in. They had new (albeit basic) appliances (gas stove, microwave built into the cabinetry above the stove, dishwasher and fridge). The common areas and bathrooms of the apartment featured laminate-wood floors and the bedrooms had carpet. The counter tops seemed to be granite. The apartment I was in had a normal entrance and a small concrete patio that was adjacent to the parking lot that had a door as well. We rarely used the main entrance and usually used the patio entrance. As a tenant, you don't have direct access to anything "under the hood" of the apartment. You don't have direct access to the water heater (for temperature or energy usage measurement). Your electric panel is a sub-panel. You'll need to turn off every breaker if you need to cut power off to the whole apartment. The dryer they give you is 30A (as is the receptacle), so keep that in mind when sizing your loads for the dryer. The washer is rather small as well. To save energy, they're also upgrading the central air condenser units to ones that use less energy. The staff are amicable and work doggedly to solve issues. The facilities group responds to tickets quickly. The grounds are taken care of rather nicely. There's a pool that is rather nice. It's a kidney-style pool with the deepest section being 5 feet. There's a 20 foot laps area in the shallow section. Tenants are permitted to bring food to the pool and even are allowed to use the propane grill that they have there to prepare food. The sunset views from the pool are good. I can say that the rent is up there, not too high, but you'll want your employer to pay for it if you can (if your situation is temporary). By the way, your utilities are billed separately from your rent in what's called a AUM bill. You should pay your AUM bill as soon as you get it via MAIL. If your bank has bill pay where they actually mail a check, use it. AUM is a separate (not generally liked by many) company and may bill you a convenience fee if you pay online using a credit card. A note about crime. It's Danbury, CT. Crime is not a major issue, but it does occur. It comes with the area. The staff notified us via letters stuck in our unit door that there was a string of car break-ins. Just lock your doors and windows. The apartments feature security pins that you can stick in the window to prevent it from bring opened too high, in addition to the traditional window lock. They do background checks of tenants but not a very extensive one. They don't lease to sex offenders (that I know of), nor to violent felons (that I know of). I ran a query on the former as well as the latter to see if the previous Yelp review citing that they had leased to a "convicted felon" was true or not. It wasn't. I know that the management staff reads the Yelp reviews because I mentioned them during the initial tour and she said that they don't lease to felons. I asked about the background check provider and she told me but I forgot the exact company, however I do remember that it wasn't one of the major players such as Lexis-Nexis or Experian. It's a good place, but make sure you know the specific apartment you're getting. You don't want one that is too close to the nearby (ambandoned, albeit) parking structure as that may be a eye sore and I would stray away from a ground (terrance) level unit unless you absolutely need to have your own grill. I recommend that you check it out, but READ your contract and bring up any issues BEFORE you sign. They can always change the terms of lease before you sign. For example, if you want two RFID keytags for the pool, you better have that in your contract or they'll deny your request for a second one. Also, make sure that they can't bill you if your RFID keytags break at no fault of yourself, as they charge a rather egregious fee for broken or lost key tags. This is a result of them outsourcing their security/access control to a third party. The tags are not secure (the serial number is encoded in plain text; the tags are not challenge-based) as they have they are of the antiquated HID Prox variety and have serial number printed on the back. While I cannot officially condone it (it may violate your contract), nor should I give you any specifics on the process, it may behoove you to duplicate your RFID keytag and keep the original in a safe place to prevent the rather nasty fee they may whack you with. Well that's it. It's a good place and I'd recommend that you check it out, but be sure to read your contract, check what specific unit you're getting, as well as plan ahead to pay for the rent (it's expensive so you'll want emergency money to pay it if you lose your job). read more

This place is wonderful...the staff are super attentive, the grounds are gorgeous, and it's so close to everything...the mall, restaurants, etc. Unfortunately usually only angry people write reviews and I see a lot of that on here. I can tell you from personal experience that I have never been a part of a better community. My favorite part is the social functions...BBQ's, ice cream days, and a bunch of other events. It's really nice to feel at home here. Pet friendly...which you don't find much anywhere else. I always take my dog to the "bark park" where she plays with the neighbor's dogs. The other day my blinds on my window broke and it only took 20 minutes for the maintenance guy to come over and fix them. I love it here. So don't listen to these guys...you'll miss out on a great place to live. read more

We finally received our security deposit refund check in the mail this week...3 months after we moved out. Still no explanation from management as to why it took so long to get our check back. We have lived here 3 months and are extremely happy! Carlyn Watters the office manager and woman we dealt with in securing a place is so lovely and trusting. She told my fiancé and I this would be a fantastic place for us to live and said we would fit in well here, and she was right! We looked at other places in the Danbury area and felt Willow Grove was homey. The separate entrance and the back patio gives us privacy. We lucked out with wonderful neighbors and this place is really pet friendly! Everyone we have met around us has been living here quite a long time and it seems that the turnover is not fast. When we went to other places we felt the realtor was pushy and wanted money after the tour. Carlyn made our decision very easy to live here. People will always have complaints about tedious things, and like to knit pick, but this place was the most affordable and appealing to the eye for us. I lived in many brownstones in the westchester area and feel this place is the most home feeling. We encourage anyone interested to contact Carlyn, she won't steer you wrong and she is just a people person which makes speaking with her quite easy and reassuring. A bucolic setting welcomes you home to spacious, apartment living. Accommodations abound. Fitness center, pool, bark park. And the neighbors couldn't be friendlier." I have lived here since May 2011. This was a beautiful place and management was amazing. We are now on the 3rd and they are by far the WORST!!!Thank goodness we are finally out of here.. This management company is by far the worst company ever....Lack of communication, pointing fingers lying. Not one person can do their job in the office. Willow Grove sucks! If you live in Danbury or are thinking about moving here don't. They give you bs stories, oh it was the other management company not us. Jean has no clue what she is doing. She doesn't know anything about the property. She tried to tell me they have only been the management company for 3 months saying when they took over January 2015. Hun do the math. 7 months you're company has known about our issues and nothing. Stay away if you know what's good. The property has clearly gone to crap. They stopped remodeling because they are cheap, put their banner over the TGM name come on. Their are ticks and mushrooms in the grass, you have to tell them to put poop bags in the dispenser. It's just really sad. I am sure we won't get our deposit back. Living at Willow Grove was quiet and serene in all the right ways. The highway is close enough to get anywhere quickly and Trader Joes and Starbucks are less than five minutes away but the complex is set up on a breezy hill. I lived in the Candlewood one-bedroom. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for respectful low-key neighbors and a well-run facility. I needed a place closer to NYC and that is the only reason I left. The commute, while simple from the Park and Ride at the bottom of the hill was a bit too long. Commuting the Westport was fine. The updates kitchens are very nice. You cannot beat the central air in the summer. My utility bills were never that high but I lived on the ground floor. read more

the worst experience ever..i would say the only positive thing about living here were the neighbors rest the least i say the better...the new managment company will make up for any discounts it offer ,when you move out of the apartment. Almost of my friends who have moved out have been slapped with heavy charges (from 1300-6000)on some prtext or the other..I suggest rather not get into this mess to begin with and rent somewhere else...there are plently of v good options. read more
