He's been removed due to repeated vandalism and is allegedly in storage. Atop the 35 foot tall column, a sculpture of Winged Victory with a laurel. It was dedicated in 1905 and the ceremony was attended by almost 20,000 people including Vice President Charles Fairbanks. I had read about this mural before coming up here to do the nearby rail biking, which is less than a mile from here. According to information on the wall, this 180 foot mural was started in 2011 by a local artist with the assistance of many volunteers. You can tell this is truly a labor of love and they still maintain it on a regular basis. This piece of art is so intricate with many beautiful colors. I greatly enjoy the Adirondacks and miss Upstate NY (where I spent most of my life), so I love how the mural illustrates all of the amazing activities that there are to do in this region. We see people tubing, kayaking, biking, rafting, fishing and skiing. I highly recommend seeing this beautiful art if you are passing through town, it will only take you 5 minutes.

This one is set up well for it to work out that if you come during a nice day you may be able to grab your new book to read and enjoy sitting at a table or in the grass. I suspect due to location this would mean lots of people swapping books. During our visit it was decently full, nothing that caught my attention enough to grab a book. My wife didn't end up grabbing any either. If you enjoy the author Malcom Gladwell they had three different books by him. They had some cooking books, small amount of kids books, autobiographies, older romance books, and others. Was in an easy to access/come across location with a decent amount of books.

The store itself is a must-visit just for the space: it's in an old gym that's been refurbished, leaving the gorgeous two-story space intact, with a full lower level and what might have been a track level in a square balcony on the second level. The upstairs is where you'll find all the college gear, art, and some games; down below are the gifts, textbook pickup, general bookstore, and younger kids games and activities. The staff were extremely nice and helpful, and while the prices are full retail for books and gifts, you will want to support the ability to browse by buying some stuff, we hope. A genuinely nice find in an otherwise somewhat disappointing (for books) pair of college towns in Potsdam and Canton.

They also have LOTS of local handcrafted items for sell, including local Amish-made items to music to books. I always stop in around the holidays to finish off my shopping. While some of the prices may seem high, they reflect the amount of time and work that is spent on that unique item. There are many less expensive items offered as well. I also enjoy wandering into the display part of the store which is basically a mini-museum. Don't miss their gingerbread house exhibit around Christmastime!

At the urging of other profs, I endured a lengthy investigation, which resulted in minimal repercussions for the offender. He attended the art school at Yale University and eventually went out west to Montana at age nineteen, returning to Ogdensburg and eventually his first publishing in 1886 at the age of twenty-five. He is perhaps best known for the sculpture "The Broncho Buster" which has a copy here on display. As well, a number of his other paintings of the west. The images have captions and there are art tours/discussions on a regular basis. Owned by Hank Robar, he started the demonstration when he attempted to sell the property to a donut shop franchise but was denied by the zoning board. This little park can be found in Canton NY on part of Willow Island with great views of the Grasse…read moreRiver. A small amount of parking spaces available. They have a small paved path that makes a small loop that allows you take in all the different views of nature. A couple benches can be found around this loop and some tables also can be found so maybe grab a bite from a local spot and enjoy your meal outside. Seems like a good spot to bring your dog on leash for a walk without worrying about traffic as much. We enjoyed the fall views of the river and also seeing the roughly hundreds upon hundreds of geese enjoying the river too. My wife loves taking nature photos so this was a perfect spot to do so! Located just above this park you can find some public art displays and across the road you will find another similar park and that one has trails if you want a more adventurous park. A great little nature escape away from the downtown area.
