My youngest pup has been through so much in her short life, and the team at Willow Oak Vet Hospital has been a true beacon of support through it all. After Charlotte was bitten by another dog, she had to fight off a serious infection. During her recovery, I called or visited the facility nearly every day. The staff and vet were incredibly accommodating and so kind to little Charlotte. We're grateful for their care and will continue trusting them for all our veterinary needs. My elderly neighbor, a man in his 80s, found a young cat that had been hit by a car lying in the road. The cat tried to run away but was dragging both hind legs behind it. He picked it up and took it to Willow Oak. He wasn't a client of theirs but I was and I recommended them. They took the young cat right in and did x-rays and determined that its injuries were too serious and that euthanasia would be the best thing to do. They euthanized the cat at no charge. My neighbor offered to pay but they said that wasn't necessary. They were very kind and generous and responsive to need in a time of urgency. I am a client of Dr. Cagle who is beyond wonderful in his treatment of animals. All of his support staff have always been very helpful and polite too. The prices are very reasonable. I had a terrible experience with a specific doctor at this establishment. Dr Ginger Stell, basically told me she disliked my dog's breed and placed a lot of assumptions on my dog based on stereotypes of this breed. It left me feeling very uncomfortable, as my dog was unfairly profiled by this provider. I will say I have had good experiences with other vets at the this establishment. The vet techs are also wonderful. However, Dr. Stell should keep her negative opinions to herself and treat each dog as an individual patient outside of their breed. read more

At Willow Oak, the staff goes above and beyond. My daughter's cat has been losing weight and couldn't keep food down. She scheduled an appointment for the next week at Willow Oak, but over the weekend took the cat to the emergency vet. The supportive care he received didn't improve things. This morning, the cat seemed worse. None of the emergency vets had space (!). So we went to Willow Oak first thing to see if they could fit the cat in. They were WONDERFUL. After months of my cat having stomach issues, I found Willow Oak and Dr. Cagle. Through everything, he personally texted me and kept me up to date, even on weekends and holidays when she would have her "lows". He always had immediate appointments and walk-ins available to her. I could call right at closing and without a thought they'd let me bring her in first thing the next morning. He catered to both Lucy's and my every need, exceeding any experience I have ever had with a veterinarian. Unfortunately, we ran out of options and I lost my sweet girl to cancer. When it came time to say goodbye, I was at peace because of Dr. Cagle. He comforted both me and my sweet girl when I needed it most. He treated her so well, like she was his own and she crossed the rainbow bridge in the most caring and loving facility. Although I am still grieving, I am a lifetime member of this facility and will bring my dog here as well. My family has three dogs--we left our hometown ten years ago, leaving behind a well-loved family vet I had taken my pets to my whole life. I have spent a decade since searching for a vet that I felt met my expectations for compassion, knowledge, support and affordability. We now have two senior dogs and one younger. I hate to be writing a positive review under these circumstances but I feel it needs to be done. Yesterday I took my kitten Ziggy to Willow Oak for a second opinion of his FIP diagnosis. This was my first time here. I emailed them on Sunday and Allison got right back with me Monday morning. I was surprised they could see him. Jess and Dr. D'Annibale, both were incredibly kind and patient with us. Dr.D'Annibale realized what I had brought him in for, but instead of making rushed judgement she assured me we would do a "nose to tail" exam. His lab work and imaging came back, all looking like it was indeed FIP. Which if you do not know is a rare viral mutation that is incurable and nearly always fatal. So we had to have the euthanasia talk. Which sucked because A) I really wanted Ziggy to have been misdiagnosed for his original diagnosis. B) My girlfriend was landing at RDU while I was at Willow Oak with him. FIP progresses quickly, and he was bad off already. The next step for him was likely neurological failure, so it was better to euthanize him sooner than later. But I wanted my girlfriend to be there. To see him one last time before he was gone forever. And now I'm crying again. This is where they went above and beyond. The staff blocked off time for us at the end of the day, so I could take Ziggy to the airport and pick up his human mom. And bring him back so we could put him to sleep. They let us take our time with him in the examination room, for last snuggles and kisses. Dr.D'Annibale explained the process to us in-depth letting us know he would feel absolutely nothing. The process was fast. He was sitting in my lap, breathing and purring as I pet him. Then he wasn't. They gave us a little paw print ornament to take home with us. I will continue to visit Willow Oak for all of my vet services. As Ziggy has a sister and she will one day need to see the doctor. Everyone was kind and accommodating. read more

I cannot say enough for the people of willow oak. not only do they always greet me with warmth, but they take care of my dogs as if they were their own. For the past few months, I have been trying to find a veterinary hospital that would safely (and cost-efficiently) neuter my one year old Lionhead rabbit, Buddy. I was so nervous about this procedure, because he is an exotic pet, but Dr. Cagle not only responded to my worries in an email, but took the BEST care of him. Dr. Cagle neuters and cares for some small animals, you usually have to call and ask. Anyways, Buddy was awake, eating, and running around well within six hours after his surgery. There were zero complications, and he is extremely happy and healthy today. I could not recommend Dr. Cagle and Willow Oak vet more for pet care, but specifically small animal pet care. Never able to take your pet in emergencies. Very behind on tech / procedure equipment. Likely misdiagnosed my dog with parvo when symptoms were very mild. Put her on an array of meds that were unnecessary. Not going back after multiple incidents. Facilities are nice though! read more

While we've just started as clients as Willow Oak, they are by far the best vet we've seen. We took one of our cats in for a dental cleaning, the work was done quickly, safely, and the price was more than reasonable. Took the same little guy back when we discovered a lump on his belly. They were able to diagnose the issue as harmless and never even suggested unnecessary X-rays or testing which is so refreshing, appreciated, and not the norm. We have been with Dr. Cagle since we moved to Durham in 2007. He and his staff have always been very caring and compassionate with our furry family. The staff is amazing and you can tell that all of them are animal lovers. The new doctor is great also with our dogs! Update 7/19/2018. I take my 2 cats to Willow Oak. We found out about them through an excellent open house they had when they first opened, with lots of different animal organizations from the community (CLAWS, adoption agencies, Barnes - which is a fantastic hardware/animal supply store where I get my animals' food, etc). The space is beautiful, all the staff are caring, patient, and knowledgeable, and it is always a great, peaceful experience to go there, which is great because my animals, like most I think, are super stressed out at the vet. They also provide great advice for things like travel, vaccines, & good food and flea treatment on whatever budget you have. I recently moved to Raleigh and attempted to get a new vet closer to work/home, but I quickly realized I have been spoiled by Willow Oak. Their incredibly warm team of doctors and assistants go above and beyond for my young dog. My dog and I always feel welcome by the staff who really take their time going over procedures and making sure everything in order. If/when things go downhill their staff is the team I'd like to be surround by. When one small thing came up, Dr. D'Annibale immediately had Dr. Cagle pop in and give a second opinion. They are usually pretty good at scheduling appointments and I feel like their prices are very reasonable for every visit. Dr. Cagel is very compassionate and gentle, which is really important for small, anxious animals, like my rabbit. The staff are also very friendly and caring. The building is beautiful and new. Overall, I was very pleased, but especially with the attitude of Dr. Cagel. He (and the staff) were very gentle and considerate of my rabbit. A few dogs came into the waiting area, and the assistant let me being my rabbit into another room ask that he wouldn't get scared. I also didn't feel rushed or pressured to make certain decisions. My sister brings her little Freddy (guineapig) in and I came along to experience the superior service this place is providing. Everything was super clean and nice. All technicians were so nice, helpful and patient, answering all our question with warmth and empathy. Doctor Cagel is extremely knowledgeable, and so nice to all the humans and super sweet and careful with all his patients. The prices are VERY reasonable and often he does not charge for something quick/small. He puts the animals first and treats them like the family members they are to their humans. They all make you feel 100% at ease and comfortable leaving your animal in their care. He also puts the animals before his financial gain advising against surgeries when he assesse the risks as too big instead of just operating to make money. I took my sick dog to Willow Oak on recommendation from another vet, as she didn't have a vet in the area and the vet my friends used had no appointments available. They found us an appointment right away, and took really good precautions regarding the canine influenza (she had a fever and a runny nose - they did a preliminary examination outside to prevent infection before taking us inside, which I really appreciated because it means that the inside office is safe for my elderly dog to go to). My dog, who really, really hates going to the vet, loved the technician who helped us. Dr. Cagel was great with her, as well - he was gentle and got down on her level, and really reduced her anxiety about the whole affair. I felt really reassured after he examined her, and he went through all the care options we might want to take. The desk staff were extremely helpful and efficient, and the space itself is nice and relaxing and full of light. It was a surprisingly tranquil visit, and I think I've found my vet for as long as I'm in this area. read more

i was looking for a vet that has experience in dealing with exotic pets for my guinea pig, because i was leaving my previous exotic pets specialty vet. my visit at willow oak exceeded all of my expectations. the reception area is bright and friendly. the vet tech was extremely thorough at the pre-exam. dr. cagle was just wonderful and seems to be very knowledgeable about guinea pig health. he took his time, answered all of my questions and handled my pet with lots of tlc. i am glad to have found a better option for my gpig, that is also better priced than a specialized hospital. i would totally recommend willow oak veterinary hospital for exotic companion animals. read more

Unknowledgeable about heartworm positive treatments. The staff wouldn't attempt to give me a quote, a price range, or even a call back. She kept saying that I needed to make an appointment and talk to the doctor. First off, I don't want to waste my time paying for a consultation if you're going to charge me an outrageous price for treatment. On top of that, don't tell future customers that you do heartworm treatments "all the time" and then not provide even a range for the cost- If you did them all the time, you'd have a guesstimate. This place doesn't sound like a place I'd trust or ever refer anyone to. read more

Dr. Cagle and his staff at Willow Oak Veterinary Hospital are truly outstanding. I have never written an online review before, but I felt compelled to share my experience at Willow Oak. My 5 mo old puppy got sick on a Friday evening. My regular vet was unable to fit him in over the weekend. A number of my friends recommended Willow Oak and so I called Saturday morning in a panic. Even though Dr. Cagle's schedule was full, he told me to bring my puppy in anyway and he would make time to see him. I switched my puppy over to Willow Oak right then and there. My puppy required fluids over the course of the week, and the Willow Oak staff went out of their way to find appointment times that fit my schedule (even though they were squeezing me in!). Each time I brought my puppy in, Dr. Cagle took the time to talk to me and explain what was going on - I never felt rushed. It is obvious that Dr. Cagle and his staff truly care about the well-being of your pet. Dr. Cagle or a member of his staff contacted me every day to see how my puppy was doing. It meant so much to know that they cared during this stressful time. Additionally, Dr. Cagle understood that I had that I had to be financially conscious and helped me sort through what options would be best for both me and my puppy.
