Absolutely horrible experience. On our first visit (I have 3 dogs), Dr Meade showed zero interest in talking to me about my dogs' history. Nor did she spend any time trying to warm up to my dogs before attempting the exam. They claim to be a fear-free practice, however, did nothing to alleviate my dogs' anxiety. The vet techs could not successfully draw blood. Dr Meade was in the room and completely ignored that they procedure wasn't going well. Instead of helping them, Dr Meade eventually just left the room. I finally just stopped the exam and left as my dogs were terrified and I was extremely stressed out by the experience. If this is the way they treated my dogs in front of me, I can't imagine the treatment if I were to have let them take the dogs in the back for the blood draw as they originally wanted to do. read more

I have been to this vet for the last 3 years and this review is long overdue. I was hesitant to publicly say anything because my dog, Gerard, is enrolled in their (now defunct) vaccines for life program. I worried that speaking negative about the practice may lead the vets to be negligent with my pup. Now that we are moving out of Durham, I finally can speak my mind. The prices are high compared to other vets in the area but we thought it was worth it because of the vaccine for life program. You pay an upfront fee and as long as you pay for an annual exam, you receive free vaccines. When we got our second dog, we called to inquire about the program. The receptionist told us that the program was still in place and we scheduled an appointment for two weeks later. At the appointment, they informed us that the program was no longer effective... It appeared that in the two weeks between my call and the appointment, they removed the program but did not update their customers. Had I known, I would've chosen a different vet for her. This is just poor practice. In spite of this operational blunder, we still took Gerard here because he was grandfathered into the program. Each time, I would notice things that made me question the intent of the practice. They consistently attempt to up-sell us on diagnostics and tests... For example, Gerard spontaneously developed a head tilt two months ago. We wanted to go to a speciality vet hospital but needed a referral from our main vet so we came back to Broadway. Broadway charged us $65 for a 10 minute appointment with the suggestion for a $250 blood test. When we hesitated and refused the blood test, they came back with a "cheaper" version at $125 (why didn't they offer this initially?). The doctor told us that the two leading possibilities were 1) tick/parasite which would be detected through the blood test or 2) a middle/inner ear infection. After the blood test came back negative, the doctor immediately suggested that we run another test to see if there are thyroid issues. I was confused given thyroid issues were not one of the main contenders initially.... I asked why we weren't testing the second option (middle/inner ear infection) and she said that would require a MRI/CT which they didn't offer in house. So... we were going to test for an issue that is not as likely because it's what they COULD do in-house. Let me repeat that. They wanted to do a test because they COULD, not because they SHOULD. Needless to say, we refused the additional test. Fast forward to today, two months later. Gerard has mainly recovered from his previous issue, despite having no diagnosis. He was due for his annual vaccines, so again, we head to Broadway. Due to social distancing, I answer a set of questions via email beforehand and bring up the head tilt/ear infection. Before I even drop off my dog, Broadway calls and informs me that my total bill will be ~$140 because they included an ear cytology. I am confused because ear cytologies are to detect outer ear infections, which was explicitly ruled out by the SAME vet during our last visit because the outer ear infection could not possibly cause the symptoms Gerard was experiencing. I call back and inquire about this discrepancy, the person on the line finally admits that she has no idea and that the vet would have to call me back. When the vet calls me back, she tells me that my dogs ears are "dirty" and that the cytology will tell her if there's bacteria or yeast. I ask point blank whether the cytology will tell us anything about the middle/inner ear. She admits that no, it will not, but that he could also have an outer ear infection. At this point, I cannot trust that this vet has Gerard's best interests at heart. Best case scenario, she just did not review his chart at all before examining him and was very very confused on a treatment plan. Worst case scenario, she just wanted to sell us more exams. Broadway is fine if your dog is healthy and you just need someone to do a quick annual check... but I would double check that any procedure or test they offer is actually needed. read more

I really like this place. It may not be the fanciest place, but the care is top notch. The staff is super friendly and great with my dog. My dog has heartworms and some other issues and she has been getting lots of tests etc... It gets very confusing with all of the treatments and options, but Dr. Noger has been amazing. She explains everything (more than once for me) and offers advice and compassion. I'm very grateful to have found them and feel confident with my dogs health in their hands. read more

They have their own online ways of getting our cat's prescriptions, and are very kind and responsive about refills and ensuring I can fill our cats prescriptions on time. I also feel like I can fully trust Dr. Meade's recommendations. They are also clearly compassionate to humans suffering under pandemic conditions in addition to animals and have tried to make things as easy as possible on us, all of the staff I've talked to are very friendly and responsive. read more

My husband and I adopted a cute little Cocker Spaniel named Carlos about a month ago. Part way thought the adoption process, we discovered that Carlos had heart worms--we needed to find a good vet ASAP! I know that people in Durham love their pups, and there would be no shortage of good vets in our area. But as first-time-pet-owners, the task of wading through all the reviews for all the vets in the area was a bit daunting. Just before we were set to bring Carlos home with us, a neighbor posted a recommendation for Dr. Meade and Broadway Veterinary Hospital on our neighborhood listserv. We decided to give BVH a try based on our neighbor's glowing review and its convenient location. We brought Carlos in on a Saturday morning, and we are so glad we did! Everyone at BVH was so helpful and attentive. Carlos is still a bit shy around strangers, but he warmed up to the staff pretty quickly (with the help of lots of treats). Dr. Meade also took her time explaining the heart worm treatment to us, and she really put our minds at ease. She was up front with us about the cost of the treatment (unfortunately, not cheap no matter which vet you choose), and was happy to address any questions that we had. I would highly recommend BVH to anyone looking for a vet, or looking to change vets. If you live near downtown, you really can't beat the location, and Dr. Meade & staff are friendly, patient, and knowledgeable. read more

Broadway Vet Hospital is wonderful! I brought my 10-week-old kitten in for her first check-up after I adopted her from the APS of Durham (note, at the time, they offered a free check-up if you adopted a rescue pet). Kitty needed several rounds of deworming treatments for parasites and other digestion issues. In the process, we discovered she had several allergies, and Dr. Meade and the staff were incredibly kind, patient, and persistent in helping me address these elusive allergy issues. Their prices are very reasonable, and the Free Vaccines for Life program is an awesome deal (and great peace-of-mind). As a downtown Durham resident, Broadway Vet is super convenient, and I have never had any problems getting a same-day appointment. I live so close that I've even dropped by with kitty so the staff at Broadway Vet can "pill" her for me - that's how accommodating they are. I brought my foster dog here for a quick nail trim, redeeming an offer I had with Bull City Bucks. The staff were very accommodating and helpful. Biscuit (my foster poodle) is very fearful in new places, but did so well with them. This vet clinic is new to downtown Durham, but seems to be gaining a strong patient base, and is involved in the community. I highly recommend them! read more

Despite going to school out of state (and living 25 minutes away even when I'm back in North Carolina!), BVH is the only office I'll take my cats to. Broadway Animal Hospital is wonderful. My 7 year old pup tends to be anxious at the vet. Dr. Meade and the rest of the staff went out of their way to make him feel safe and comfortable, and they succeeded. By the end of the visit he was calm, wagging his tail, smiling, and giving Dr. Meade kisses. That never happened at his previous vet's office. I was so impressed with the time and effort that they put into making my boy happy. It's so nice to have a vet who obviously cares about their patients. I recently adopted a 7 week old puppy from a local rescue. (She is now 12 weeks and double the size) but I immediately took her straight to see Dr.Mead when I got her. Having a dog is a first time experience for me so I wanted to make sure I covered my basis. Dr.Mead and her staff helped walk me through the shots, etc as well as eased my mind a little bit about the huge decision to get a dog. Lilly even slept through her shots! We recently had our second visit and that went great as well..even with all the puppy energy that Lilly has! Dr.Mead was nice enough to give us some samples of heart worm medication and flea and tick because what I had bought may not have been good. We could not be happier with Dr. Amber Meade and the staff at Broadway Vet. We are long time cat owners, and two years ago adopted a new kitten from the APS. We did not want to return to North Paw Animal Hospital after an unfortunate, fatal incident with our previous cat. Dr Meade and her staff were so kind and patient, as our new cat had some smelly digestive difficulties which took a while to resolve. But she never lost hope that we could solve the problem, which we did! We not only have been extremely happy with the wellness appointments, but have boarded our Flossie there on several occasions. She never came home mad after being left there; I think she was petted and cooed over to her satisfaction. When we adopted my mother's cat, after Mom passed away, Broadway Vet even sent us a sympathy card, which I thought was incredibly thoughtful. I love this cat he is almost 14years old and very spoiled to say the least . our visit took a week to coordinate, simply because I could not coax the cat into the carrier. and I had to borrow a carrier from the vet. so when finally got him to the vet he truly enjoyed the doctor. Dr. Meade and assistant had no problems as I had warned them, a complete little gentleman. there was major improvement in the cat's condition except for the scratching which continued. stopped by the office explain the situation and was given an additional product for the itch and it worked great .pets are expensive BUT for the unconditional love they give back. yes they are worth every penny. read more

It had been one year since we adopted out little kitty from the Franklin County Humane Society, so she was due for her annual vaccinations. Unfortunately, she hates car rides and had generally been a little grumpy in the last few weeks, so we were looking for a vet that would ease her tension and give us some hints on what we could do to help her be more relaxed at home. We found BVH recommended by both the American Association of Feline Practitioners and fellow Yelpers, so we gave them a call. Gray, who answered our call, was incredibly friendly and also provided us with some suggestions for easing the car ride and her behavior at home; so we immediately felt a good connection with BVH. When we got there, Ruby had not enjoyed the car ride but they had already prepared an examination room where we could let her out to explore and calm down. Alicia, who recorded Ruby's medical history, was just as nice as Gray and made Ruby feel right at home. While Ruby wasn't excited about her exam and the vaccinations, Dr. Mead and Alicia made sure they calmed her down and proceeded as carefully and quickly as possible. Dr. Mead also gave us a great amount of time to talk about our recent issues with Ruby, potential causes, and what we could do about it. We felt very well taken care of and also appreciated the Free Vaccines for Life Program and the free nail trimming for checking in on Yelp. While we did end up spending some more money to have a blood panel done, we never felt pressured into getting any procedures we did not want. Bottom line, we are very satisfied with out visit to BVH and highly recommend it to any pet, and particularly cat, owner. read more
