They throw open the doors, put out the magic trunks of goodies, and voila! It's your high school theater closet in all it's glory-- all for SALE! It was so much fun to rifle though all the vintage clothing that is so rarely seen in Alaska. They have some LEGIT stuff that I haven't seen in EONS... fabrics and patterns that I wore in the 70's and 80's... it was mind blowing. They even had stuff from the 50's and 60's. Super cool stuff, all reasonably priced. I wish Anchorage had a shop like this.

I've been thrifting for many years, and unfortunately this store is no longer one of my regular…read morestops. Over time I've noticed prices steadily increasing to the point that many items are priced at or above what I can find online. In my experience, pricing often appears to be based on asking prices rather than actual sold values, which makes it difficult to find genuine thrift-store bargains. Many collectible items seem to remain in the display case for weeks or months without selling, suggesting the pricing may not reflect current market demand. Selection can be hit or miss, and I rarely leave feeling like I've found a great deal anymore. While some staff members have always been kind and helpful, the overall shopping experience feels much less welcoming and community-oriented than it once did. As someone who both shopped and donated here, I've decided to take my business and future donations elsewhere. I personally recommend checking out Thrifters Rock or Family Thrift in Palmer, where I've had better luck finding reasonably priced merchandise.

Folks donate junk they don't want, we show up and buy it. Charities benefit. If they've over priced, we decide how badly we want it and factor in that all proceeds benefit a cause. This store is really well organized with a huge variety of junk. Prices are great, especially for clothes. They have a massive dvd and book collection. Even a nice selection of Alaska based writings. Take care, remember it's donated stuff other people didn't want. Sometimes that means damaged or in need of repair. Buy accordingly. I know it's for a cause, but there are times when it's fun to dicker, especially when something's broke and so are we! I've bought cool shot glasses, growlers, tools and OSU Buckeye dolls. I've even found my favorite candy bars at a nice price. Even at their peak the line moves quickly so it's a very efficient process. The folks are fun to deal with, super friendly! 08/23

They were excited to report they got the bikes for a killer deal ($20 each) at a really cool thrift shop in Big Lake. Sara's Place has to be the spot they were talking about. It's located right along the main drag in Big Lake and it's chockful of interesting things to look at, inside and out, for both men and women. They accept donated items as well as consignment items. I got some nice vintage plates and the woman at the counter generously cut me a sweet deal. If you're ever out that way and you appreciate digging thru a good thrift shop, be sure and pay them a visit.
