Echo Springs is one of favorite golf courses. It is always in excellent condition and is well…read moremaintained. Pretty much free of weeds. The greens, fairways and t-boxes were all well groomed. And, this is a biggie, they actually have sand in their sand traps. A lot of courses aren't maintaining their sand traps anymore but the ones at Echo Springs were in really good shape. I had forgotten how hard it is to hit out of the sand. Beautiful links style course. Challenging without being too difficult to have a good time.

As such, I have fond memories of St Albans and it's still one of my favorite courses. St Albans has some challenging holes (#10 - a long downhill, #15 - a short par 3 and #17 which goes forever) but, overall, it's a very friendly course and is not too intimidating for those of us who don't usually break 100. The course is scenic; it has some hilly holes and some relatively flat holes; there's plenty of water and not much in the way of sand traps or bunkers. The staff in the clubhouse is great - friendly and efficeint. And, the cost of 18 holes is pretty reasonable.

I was standing in line to pay for a drink and check in for the round and the staff member had the person behind me pay for their round and refused to let me pay in the order we lined up because "I knew what I did." Like he was exercising some vigilante justice. This was literally my first time there. The executive tee boxes were just dirt piles and the first green didn't even have a hole cut on the green. Would never recommend going.

There really isn't much to aim for except sand since most of their distance flags are knocked over. They have so much potential here since there aren't too many driving ranges near it. The other perk is the beautiful view of downtown. Find some investors and build a huge 2 story driving range where the whole thing is covered and heated. Collaborate with the brewery next door and find a way to implement alcohol.
