Horrendous customer service, disgruntled employees and odd seating arrangements (random couches). I will never visit this place again.

I was disappointed; i was expecting an old-time theater and while it's got an old-time marquee, the inside is pure mall theater.

That said, I did decide to donate this year, mainly because I really wanted the cute Arch jigsaw puzzle, and I designated my donation gift to go to the Block Museum. This place is a hidden gem. I am OBSESSED with William Blake...like, I own his entire poetry collection and two coffee table art books (one of which is from the current Block exhibit -- Age of Aquarius -- that I had to buy after visiting). The current exhibit is freaking brilliant. It's so well done, amazingly curated and organized, and is really ingenious. I admittedly don't know much about art (I'm kicking myself now for never taking an art history class during my time at NU), but I've been to The Block several times over the years working there, and I'm ashamed I never went as an undergrad. Plus, hello, it's free. Always. Super happy to support them and cannot wait for their next exhibits. In the meantime, I have a hot date with Blake at least 2-3 times more before it closes, including some of the fun special events they have planned in collaboration with other parts of the university and members of the Chicago community.

Inside, the theatre was a bit too hot and stuffy, but it got better as we got used to it...or someone else notified them! The hallway into the theatre smelled like BO, which was unforeseen, but the theatre itself did not, thankfully. The bathrooms were almost fully out of toilet paper on a busy Friday night! However, when I told the one person I saw working there later on, she was very nice and said she'd tell someone to take care of it (and that person did!). It isn't bad enough to deduct two stars, even with other minor issues, but the sound itself was kind of bad at times...this is one of the main things a theater should be aware of! Some loud sounds in the movie resulted in some of the speakers rattling annoyingly. I am surprised. Movie theatres should be able to handle loud sounds. But in my recliner, it was easier to stomach...

However, the last few movies I saw were last minute and didn't leave many seat options at AMC. And so we ended up at CMC Old Orchard Luxury instead. However, this is anything, but luxury... - The line for the concessions is unnecessary long because they only have 1 person working it. And then you pick up your drink (and perhaps other things) in a window, which requires another wait. Why don't they have do it yourself fountain machines like the rest of the movie theaters/local businesses. - I've never met a movie theater popcorn I don't like until here. It's so stale and while i was bummed my husband got a kids pack popcorn for us to share at first, it turned out to be too much popcorn since it was inedible. The seats themselves are comfortable so they get a star for that. I recently when to the theater in the Glen and these seats definitely beat those, but AMC at NBC is still the winner when it comes to movie theaters in the North Shore. If you do find yourself here I suggest parking at Buffalo Wild Wings for an easy access to the theater unless you want to take advantage of all the dining/shopping options at Old Orchard.

Held the last weekend in January at Northwestern University B-Fest is a 24 hour bad movie marathon spanning 6pm Friday until 6pm Saturday and has shown some of the worst films of the 20th and 21st centuries. Such heyday gems as Kingdom of the Spiders and The Magnetic Monster all the way through psychedelic 60's bombs, 70's blacksploitation, 80's classics and even contemporary used diapers like Baby Geniuses II and Battlefield Earth have seen screentime. To start, half the main parking lot out front was fenced off for some kind of project nearby, which caused space to go fast. I don't mind a bit of a walk but It felt like needles in a haystack finding a spot. It didn't help that people weren't paying attention either. It was very busy inside, seeing as it was a Saturday. The staff seemed to move things along pretty efficiently, but this lead to neglect in other areas. The floors were dirty and littered. They were also out of ice in the coke machines, though I can understand that happens. Everything else was fine. The restrooms were a little gross and in need of some TLC, but I digress. The seats we got last minute were actually decent and we made good convo with other guests. I think on less busy days it would be a little more enjoyable.

Instead of feeling like a place to go see a movie, it felt cold, automated, and completely impersonal. From the self-service kiosks to the bare-bones staff interaction, everything seemed designed to move people through as quickly as possible rather than make the experience enjoyable. There was no sense of welcome, no charm, and nothing that made the outing feel special. The whole place felt more like a waiting room than a movie theater. The lighting, the layout, and the lack of any human touch made it hard to feel immersed before the film even started. Going to the movies should feel like an experience, but this theater stripped away all of that and turned it into something mechanical and forgettable.

We hadn't been to this theater for many years, so we were glad to find that we still had a very good experience. Although I'm not reviewing the movie itself, I do want to mention that I had somehow never actually watched it before. I had seen many images and clips from the movie here and there over the years, but I had never sat down and watched the whole thing. We truly enjoyed Terminator 2. No wonder it is considered such an iconic movie, it is still a great movie by today's standards. The great sound and picture quality at this AMC really helped us enjoy the movie. I was especially pleased that the theater was clean, including the seats and trays. We were in Auditorium 5. The temperature was comfortable throughout the movie as well. The large "leather" seats were supposed to be comfortable, but unfortunately, the recline and footrest buttons on my seat did not work. My husband tried his, and both worked for him. The seats were also very large, but they had become somewhat sunken to one side, presumably from years of wear and tear, which made them less comfortable than they should have been. I tried several seats, and they all seemed to have the same issue. Since I was sitting between my husband and my daughter, I decided to just keep my original seat and tried not to let it bother me. We had already had pizza for dinner before the movie, so we didn't get anything from the concessions. Still, I was glad to see that the concession area was bustling around 6:45 pm. The washrooms were also quite clean around that time. Overall, we're glad to see that this AMC is still running well after so many years, although we're sad to see Northbrook Court slowly dying. Seeing a movie in a theater is such an enjoyable experience, and we hope people will continue to support movie theaters so that places like this can stay around for many more years.

Called the box office and they were of no help in buying tickets for will call. We saw One Night in Memphis on Nov. 23. The performers were good, dedicated to playing their artists. The bad part of the theater? The sound - they cranked up the instruments and we could barely hear the performers sing. I felt bad for the performers trying to be heard over the drums and electric bass. Another downside was the lack of the ushers and staff with seating. It didn't seem to matter much where people sat as long as no one complains. Not sure this is good for honest people who pay for decent seats. When we got to our seats there was a couple already sitting in our seats. They claimed that the box office sent them to our seats because they got kicked out of their balcony seats. Without having an usher nearby, we had to take care of it ourselves. They begrudgingly moved to the next set of free seats in the box grumbling about how they should have stayed in their seats. The people with tickets to their relocated seats showed up and the balcony couple again claimed they were placed there by the box office because they were told to leave their balcony seats. They were finally moved by an usher. I noticed them sitting across the theater in the empty box seats, not balcony. I guess no one checks tickets. They must be pros knowing not to pay $75+ a ticket, but to pay a lot less for balcony and sit in premium seats because no one will check. Other than this irritating situation, the show was okay. Parking was easy and free which was nice. Overall, I think we'd be back only if there was a performer we must see, but we will not be paying for main or box seating prices. It's a small theater.
