I have been planting trees personaly and professionally for almost 40 years so I've learned what to look for. The above ground growth was fine and the redbuds were well formed. Unfortunately, the root flares were a full 3 inches below the soil line in an 8 inch pot. I had to do major surgery to get through the mass of fine roots to get the flare. As anyone with horticultural experience knows, planting trees below the root flare is just asking for girdling roots over time. Other trees I've gotten from Wilson Bros did not have this problem so these were disappointing. read more

The box may be a bit dinged ( so goes FedEx ) but the plants are beautifully preserved despite less than tender handling. The plant arrived in perfect condition in packing that cd have withstood a nuclear bomb (if you're an old lady like me, you might need assistance in unpacking). Dishonest advertisement. Bought several plants from them throughout the past 3 years. Initially the plants are good size and reasonable priced. However, in the past year, the nursery has been sending me very small plants which is subpar to nursery standard. I bought several 3 gallon plants from them and all the plants are less than 11 inches tall. The color of flowers is not as described on their website. Raised my concern to the nursery and they patronized me saying that even a 5 gallon plants is a " young" plant and can be small. They manipulate the reviews on their website, and most of them are fake. read more

I'm impressed with how well it was packed since the post office left the box upside down (even though there were arrows on the box). I contacted Wilson Bros. for some suggestions. The advice was excellent and we ordered the Swan Queen gardenia. It arrived in under 48 hours and was packaged so carefully. I am still working on getting the soil pH to the proper level after planting it but that does take a bit of time. We have some excellent nurseries within reasonable driving distance but I plan to start ordering most of my new plants from Wilson Brothers. Once ordered, our Pee Wee Oakleaf Hydrangeas arrived quickly. The plants were packed very well, and we had no damage to any of the hydrangeas. We're waiting for the first signs of growth, but the plants are nice and healthy so we should be seeing some green buds before too much longer. The website looked amazing and they offered many hard to find plants. So I ordered from them, and a couple of other nurseries. By far Wilson Bros was the absolute worst. The plants were obviously recently up-potted from starter pots to gallon size and I was charged for gallon size plants. They came in leggy and weak. Customer service provides nothing but excuses with no actual solutions. They may as well have told me oh well, buyer beware. So I'm extending the warning to others. read more

As a multi generational Texan I was THRILLED to get a Texas Star. Planted immediately upon arrival, spent a mere 24 hours getting over shipping shock and is off and running. I was so excited to come across the Muhly Grass which I thought would be a great addition to a new flowerbed I was creating. I received the 3 grass bushes promptly but noticed they were brown with no green at all. I planted the bushes according to the instructions thinking the grass was past its blooming season for that season and I would see proof of life in the following spring. Unfortunately a year later the plants look EXACTLY as they did when they arrived. I was very disappointed as these were not inexpensive items. I reached out to Wilson Bros and provided pictures of the dead items. I received a very lengthy email back which basically told me that I had not followed the proper planting instructions causing the "death" of these plants. I have ordered from numerous flowering sites for many years and am willing to admit when a plant comes to me healthy and hardy and does not make it due to my error. However I don't believe that is the case with the Muhly Grass. While I was provided a discount code to use towards a future purchase I will not be ordering from Wilson Bros. again and certainly would not recommend to others. read more

I ordered for the first time this year: two orders, a total of 13 plants, for approximately $600. I selected delayed shipping for a month out, when I will be able to install the plants. Lo and behold, 8 plants arrived a week or so after my order. I emailed to inquire about it and was told that I received a notice during the checkout process that these plants couldn't be delayed. I don't know that this notice popped up at checkout (I certainly did not see it), but it definitely didn't appear on the order review or receipt, which clearly indicates the order will ship later in the month. It was very unpleasant to deal with the initial customer service representative and the manager, Spencer, because my impression of their responses was that it was all my fault and even though he would bring up the issue to the website design team - that if there is differentiated shipping on the order that it should be reflected on the receipt - something that seems so elementary to me that I can't believe the company doesn't feel responsible for not having it. I felt the attitude they repeatedly put forth is that they did nothing wrong and it was my fault. It was somewhat shocking to receive such poor service. The way they handled the situation prompted me to cancel all of the rest of the plants I had on delay ship and not do business with them again. read more

We are extremely disappointed by Wilson Bros. Gardens, 1759 McGarity Road, McDonough, GA 30252 on-line plant service, delivery process and Customer Service Department. On April 16th, we ordered 4-Abelia and 7-Loropetalum plants, all in 3-gallon pots, for a total price of $647.51. When the order arrived 2-weeks later on April 30th, we observed that all the cardboard boxes were crushed in various places. Upon opening them, we noticed all the 3-gallon pots were dented (but still stapled to the boxes) and devoid of soil, which was deposited throughout the box. Practically all the internal cardboard retainers were broken, and those that remained did not contain the plant's root ball or the soil. The plants themselves, poorly packed two to a box horizontally, were smashed together. When we carefully lifted them out of the box, we saw the roots were bare and dry. In addition, the plant's foliage was very limp, and to our dismay we realized that many of the twigs had snapped off. To save them, we pruned and removed the parts that were clearly broken. The resultant plant shapes were a shadow of what they should have looked like. Only about 1/5 of the plants remained, most of this was older bare lower branches. It is impossible to confirm or verify if these problems were caused by inadequate packing or rough handling by FedEx during the shipping process, but the plants were a total loss! We were heartbroken, since the plants were probably lovely when Wilson Bros. Gardens sent them, but unsalvageable when they arrived. We immediately telephoned Spencer Young of Wilson Bros. Gardens Customer Service Department, advised him of the condition of the shipment and plants, and he advised us to send him "some photos". That same day, we elaborated on this conversation in an email, including 23-representatative photographs to show the condition of the delivered plants. Over the next few days, Spencer continued to dispute our claim, while subsequently asking for additional photographs of ALL the plants. This was despite the professional assessment of my wife, who is a Landscape Architect with over 38-years of experience designing, specifying, selecting and supervising the installation of large landscape projects. This assessment was also confirmed by our landscaper who noted that the plants would probably not survive. We advised Spencer that due to the unsalvageable condition of the plants, they would be trashed because we could not retain them. However, Spencer persisted in asking for more photographs detailing the damage, knowing that they didn't exist, and insisting on the letter of their return policy. Despite numerous emails emphasizing our position, and providing the additional details we could, Wilson Bros. Gardens, unilaterally settled the matter by closing the conversation and crediting us $231.88; slightly over a third of the total order of $647.51. Frankly, the Wilson Bros. Gardens credit is insulting, and we are stuck with a $415.63 loss with no recourse other than this posting. That said, we would suggest that anyone considering ordering from Wilson Bros. Gardens, think twice. You cannot trust the viability of their packing and shipping process. Additionally, the poor attitude of their Customer Service Department leaves a lot to be desired! It is already hot here in Florida, so any replanting is out of the question. I guess we learned our lesson - buy plants only from local nurseries, or even the big box stores, but not by mail; and especially not from Wilson Bros. Nurseries. read more
