This mall has been open since 1961 when it opened as an open-air center. In 1968, Roosevelt Square was enclosed to compete with other shopping malls like Regency Square Mall and Gateway. In the late 1990's, parts of the shopping plaza was demolished and remodeled and retrofitted for a new stage of this plaza's existence. All in all, Roosevelt Square is a satisfactory place to head for if you have plans to stop at one of the businesses. While nothing spectacular, it is also not overly terrible. I feel it definitely warrants a middle-of-the-road three stars.

The pavers they put in are uneven and impossible to navigate. It's like off-roading. Less than a month old and they already have huge potholes. They also took out landscaping and put in palm trees that offer no shade. And don't get me started on navigating! There are medians that are too low to see but right in the middle of the driveways. It's impossible to dodge other cars and the parking lot gets so backed up, especially for Chipotle and Chick-fil-a. This place is so poorly planned now the developer should be banned from ever developing again. Such a shame too because the businesses here are pretty good (although loosing Stein Mart was a big bummer.) This place used to be great but has gone downhill since they tried to fancify it.

We frequent Bisciotti's, Josephine, Mojos and Southern Grounds. All 5 star locations for us. No chains here for shopping either. Everything is a privately owned specialty. Vintage, gifts, clothing, and pet boutique. All of them Top Notch. Steady occasions here for festivals and celebrations as well. Just a great place to spend the day with friends or a romantic date. If you haven't spent a day in Avondale, do yourself a favor and check it out. If you're from Jacksonville, you know, but it's one of the hidden gems of Florida.

Regency centers owns this shopping plaza and they do a nice job of keeping it maintained and up to date. They are currently paining and doing some stucco work to keep things nice and fresh. There is plenty of parking and although it gets very busy at lunchtime it's pretty easy to maneuver your way through it (just watch for pedestrians!) Rumor has it the JTA Skyway is working on plans to expand its way into the Brooklyn area (first expansion in 25+ years) and I believe this will do wonders for these local businesses when they finally are connected to Downtown & Lavilla.

The name comes from it is where five roads intersect. It is a hip enclave that draws an eclectic collection of people. It is a great destination if you are in the Jacksonville, Florida area. I love these cool enclaves that give a city a personality. We need these neighborhoods where people can gather and just chill and meld together to be what is beyond a bunch of people, they become a community. The big draw for hubby is the Planet Fitness here. There's also a coin laundry, a small mom & pop pharmacy, a Hair Cuttery, and Hot Wok which serves up some pretty decent Chinese food. 3 stars because it's not the best part of town, and don't be surprised if you're asked for money from someone nearly every time you step out of your car. That gets old really quickly. They also could do some work on the parking lot... you'll definitely find your fare share of pot holes here.

Also - There's several vehicles that are parked near the entrance. Probably dropping or picking someone up. Still - It beats the usual WalMart parking lot. The store itself is laid out oddly. Took a little getting use to and it doesn't have that much space to navigate, but I was able to find everything I was looking for and more. I believe there was one checkout lane with a cashier. The rest were self checkout. The self out is very limited in space so I probably wouldn't recommend doing a WHOLE shopping trip here, but to grab a few items to get in and out isn't so bad.
