I am overweight and have a herniated disc. I cannot stand or walk without extreme sharp pain…read morerunning down my leg, because it is pressing on a nerve. The doctor asked me "Have you ever heard of BMI?" and then told me that my BMI was too high for surgery. He referred me to PT and the "pain management clinic" that they are affiliated with somehow to receive a cortisone shot. He did not offer any medication for the intense nerve pain. I went to my family doctor in tears from the pain several days later, and she prescribed nerve pain meds that have helped me a little. The cortisone shot did not work and after trying to get some kind of help--ANY HELP--with the pain, the Brain and Spine Center cancelled my follow up and referred me back to the pain clinic, dumping me as a patient because my weight makes me "not a surgical candidate." The pain clinic set up an appointment weeks away and seems completely uninterested in the fact that, for the past 5 weeks, I have been unable to walk or stand without pain and can't sleep or function normally. This has been a nightmare experience and this doctor's office has not helped, but made it worse. I ended up driving to Arlington to see a neurosurgeon who has many awards and recognition and who did not mention my weight when discussing my options (which include surgery). I do not consider surgery to remove part of a disc that is pressing on a nerve - when the patient cannot stand or walk normally without intense pain - as ELECTIVE. (see photo) I don't recommend these people AT ALL.

Everyone at Blue Ridge Ortho's Gainesville office - from practitioners to X-ray techs to support…read morestaff - is a joy to interact with, both in person and on the telephone (they're also very responsive on the online portal). I've never once had to wait to be seen, even when it's busy. They've even gone out of their way to fit me in at the last minute. PA Jenna Pataluna is knowledgeable, patient, and takes the time to answer my questions. I've never been rushed, lectured, or talked down to. She takes a collaborative approach to her patients, and I feel like an active participant in my own care.

It's not efficiency folks, it's cattle rustling to get in as many as possible for money. Originally went to Gainesville, Dr. K orders a MRI for my back. They take X-rays of my hip bc that's what I moved my appointment up for-my hip. He just knows it my back though. Sigh. Here I am, on meds: can't work, can't drive for a month while I wait for this appointment. Here's the timeline readers: End of Feb first appointment, MRI March 2nd. Follow up March 7th. Hang on, here is the fun part...DUDE TELLS ME ITS NOT YOUR BACK, MUST BE YOUR HIP. MY BAD, LETS DO ANOTHER MRI FOR THE HIP. WILL CALL TO SCHEDULE YOU. Guess when that appt was folks? March 18th. Mind you, still not working, not driving on meds. Follow up for the March 24. Did you know they get the results in like an hour? I know now bc I called to get them for my March 21 at a different office. Also, decide if that parking lot is one way. Too small, too round, and too many people dropping off patients. I would absolutely ask yourself how important your time is and don't waste it here. The care level here is similar to most of warrenton: mediocre with a fresh coat of paint.

I was referred here after having a herniated disc confirmed with MRI at my L5-S1 that was worsened after a car crash Oct 2025. It was originally herniated & diagnosed 12+ years ago when I got out of the army infantry. I took no pain medicine and have been living with it in those 12 years. October 2025 I had the crash & it hurt more, mainly at work on long 16 hour double shifts. I do private security so I am on my feet a lot. The 1st visit was pretty normal, I received 28 pills of a mild opioid to last me 42 days(not a problem) Even though it says on the bottle to take one every 6 hours for pain. The 2nd visit he gave me the same 28 pills to last me 56 days or 2 months(Definitely not enough however I did not complain or comment) My main problem was during this visit he said "Make sure you're not giving them to anybody else & put them someplace safe and put them away". I found that to be pretty weird and actually offensive, I have no criminal history, a perfect driving record, honorable discharge from the army & definitely no history of addiction and an MRI that shows my herniated disc.... My final & 3rd appointment I had just worked a 20 hour shift, 16 at my full time & 4 at my part time, I went there straight from work & did not sleep, I should have called out looking back During this time he told me I Needed to submit a urinalysis or he could not prescribe me opioid pain relievers anymore ever again. I don't mind intrusive, random drug tests to appease Dr. Heller & his CDC regime HOWEVER I explained to him I had about a 3 hour window to sleep before working a regular 8 shift & would not be sitting around there drinking water and waiting to pee, as sleep was way more important than receiving pain pills that day. I asked to make an appointment later on in the week or next week when I don't work. He said if I left today, he could no longer prescribe me pain medicine ever again. I understand he has strict CDC guidelines but It is really more so about his unprofessional comments and how he treats pain management patients.

Industrial Rehabilitation, the Workman's Compensation part of Blue Ridge Orthopedics, deserves ZERO…read morestars. In short, I saw the physical therapist in my initial consultation visit and partially in the second visit. My other visits were with a PTA who just graduated her program the month prior. There was zero oversight for her and at times googled exercises and did not properly give correct advice. There were other patients who had the same injury as mine that are still not making progress due to their lack of knowledge--fortunately, I had outside professionals helping me on the side. To make matters worse, when I questioned my progress plan, the PTA printed out a plan that had an incorrect surgery. I had a meniscus trim and she was trying to treat me as a meniscus repair- a much different recovery plan!! I asked questions I knew just to confirm they were clueless. I don't blame the PTA, she's new and not getting the training and oversight she needs and deserves. All the blame goes to the Physical therapist. Lastly, without informing me or my surgeon, the rehab facility scheduled me for a Functional Capacity Evaluation (FTE) and wanted to conduct it which is a conflict of interest. My surgeon found out and immediately canceled it because I wasn't ready for one nor did I need one. I can only assume what their agenda was ($$). I informed workman's comp to remove this company from their list! The picture below is also a lack of care for their patients. During a snow storm they didn't even attempt to remove the snow/ice from the handicap ramp. Even if they don't have the responsibility for the ramp, I think I would have removed the snow. Overall, DO NOT GO HERE!
