Don't expect the phone to be answered or a callback from this place! I've tried and tried to reach them to no avail.

Then a deep dive in history and pictures. He gave me the hard truth and scheduled a 2 day spinal fusion operation. I walk out of the hospital and was driving in 5 days, semi normal activity in 2 weeks. He has a book on Amazon called The back pain solution. Also takes patients who others have had their back screwed up by other doctors. Highly recommend.

I didn't WANT to make the long trip out to Annandale after an agonizing workday…read more.. But it was worth the drive. After years of condescending doctors looking down their noses while chucking multitudes of medicines at me for my low back and sciatic pain , I was nearly at my wit's end. However, the moment Dr. Gorsen walked into the evaluation room to greet me, I felt like someone was finally in my corner. He had a jovial tone (although he took me seriously), read my chart thoroughly, reviewed my MRI's extensively, let me speak without cutting me off, actually LISTENED, and fully processed what I had to say before responding. I can tell when a doctor enjoys his work by his bedside manner, and this doctor has a stellar one. While he's extremely busy (engaged in various side projects, inventions, and work with sports injury patients), Dr. Gorsen still took his time with me, didn't make me feel rushed, did make me feel comfortable, and managed to quickly devise and explain to me several prospective lines of attack to get to the root of my suffering. He patiently conveyed what I didn't understand in lay terms, and even offered an interim solution between now and the next time I would follow up with him - going back and forth several times to his supply room, working with me to find just the right sized back brace, and educating me on how to use it. If a guy this busy can manage to have a good humor, patience, and sympathy for his patients, the rest of you cocky doctors with atrocious people skills running patient mills should be ashamed. Additionally, the staff was pleasant, the office wasn't crowded with over-booked patients, and I've definitely had longer waits. Because of Dr. Gorsen, for the first time in three years, the light at my tunnel's end doesn't just seem like a freight train. He may or may not be able to help see me back to restored health; but at the very least, he HAS offered two very important things to me which no other doctor has bothered to even attempt thus far - and those are sincerity and hope. He has accrued an array of accolades over the years, and I can see why. I would recommend this neurosurgeon to anyone - near or far.

I owe EVERYTHING to Dr. Hope. For two and a half years I dealt with excruciating pain and numbness…read moredown my left arm that worsened to the point I was practically disabled. Doctor after doctor said to me "Go to PT", "Take this medicine", "Your MRI doesn't show anything severe so there's no reason to operate" - meanwhile, I progressively lost the use of my left arm. I couldn't drive, sleep, eat, cook, work, etc. My pain management doctor had tried cervical steroid injections, rhizotomies (burning the nerves in my neck), facet injections, trigger point injections - literally everything short of surgery. After failing two epidurals he said it's now time to go see a neurosurgeon. He recommended Dr. Hope. I always make it a point to get at least three opinions and go with the opinion that two docs share. The first doc at INOVA blew me off (Dr. Hamilton). The second doc reluctantly would do the surgery and he wanted to fuse three of my cervical vertebrae (C3 - C6) which was a big surgery and would leave me with somewhat limited movement in my neck. Dr. Hope was the final doctor I saw and said to me after hearing my saga of care for the past two years looked me straight in the eye and said "You poor thing - you're practically disabled and you're still trying to make the best of everything. I can fix you. I can help." He said there was no reason to do three levels and told me we would do the level that correlated the most to my symptoms, saying that if things worsened we could always go back in and do more. I got scheduled for surgery within three weeks and when my insurance company originally denied it because they said my MRI wasn't bad enough, Dr. Hope did a peer-to-peer review and got it overturned so I could have it done. I went into INOVA Fair Oaks Hospital on 2/22/17 a broken down, half useless person. I came out on 2/23 a woman who was put back together again. For the first time in two years I had total use of my arm. I could feel things with my fingers. I cried because I was so overcome with emotion. When I saw Dr. Hope for my 2 week checkup, he explained to me that my MRI didn't show all of the damage that was inside my neck - bone spurs that were wrapping around my spinal cord and fragments of blown disc everywhere. He told me I could've been put out of my misery months before if someone would've listened to my complaints. Within six weeks, I had total range of motion in my neck. Within three months, I was back to light exercise. Within five months, I was cleared to go back to full exercise and to go about my life a fully functional individual. Due to being rearended at 40 mph at the end of August (six months to the day after surgery) and the immediate return of presurgical nerve symptoms, I am pursuing care with Dr. Hope again because all of my symptoms came roaring back. They correlate to the vertebrae immediately beneath my surgery site. I may end up having to have my neck operated on again but that's okay - I trust Dr. Hope implicitly with my care. TL;DR version: Dr. Hope is a neurosurgical god amongst men. If you are broken, he will fix you the right way. He truly cares, which is rare to find someone of his caliber in today's healthcare community.

Dr Ott…read more I want to publicly thank Dr. Ott at Selma Medical Center for the exceptional care and advocacy she recently provided me during a very serious medical situation. I have suffered from blood clots in my legs and lungs for more than 10 years. A few weeks ago, I went to the ER and was diagnosed again with blood clots and placed on blood thinners. During my follow-up appointment, Dr. Ott became very concerned about my condition and instructed me to return to Winchester Medical Center to be admitted for surgical treatment. Unfortunately, after spending nearly five hours in the ER, I was seen briefly by the ER physician, who never examined my leg and discharged me home. Dr. Ott did not accept that outcome. She spent hours personally investigating what had happened, reviewing records, identifying multiple errors in the ER doctor's report, and tirelessly advocating on my behalf until I was finally admitted to the hospital for the surgery I needed. What impressed me most was that she did all of this while continuing to manage a full day of patients. I later learned that the delays this caused in her schedule led to complaints from others, yet she never stopped fighting for my care and safety. Dr. Ott's compassion, professionalism, persistence, and willingness to advocate for her patient may very well have saved me from a much more serious outcome. In today's healthcare world, physicians like her are rare and deserve to be recognized. I will never forget the kindness and dedication she showed me. Thank you, Dr. Ott.

They told me through the physicians assistant that Tricare for Life paid for shingles shots and then billed me for $162.00. When I confronted them they said "sorry" but you still have to pay. I paid them immediately over the phone with my credit card. Today they sent me another bill. I have sent an email to their executive director Michael Borton who is hard to find info on. Depending on his response if negative I will report to Virginia BBB and the Virginia AG. Thier billing department is inept and if they tell you something you should get it in writing. I definitely will next time. The doctor I see is great and has done an excellent job for ten years but I would not trust any other. IMHO.
