How many reviews do people need to post about the miserable service, and attitude received at the Belmar location? I called the main office, having been given a telephone number by someone in the Long Branch store. Apparently, no one there cares, as I left 2 messages and got no return call....thus this post; I ordered a double cheeseburger. When I entered the restaurant (dump) the girl behind the counter had a burned, charred bun sitting to the side of the grill. She made the cheeseburgers and put them on burned, cold bun. When I told not to give me that bun, she THREW the bun past me into a garbage can, and put burger onto an untoasted bun, as I have been eating at the Windmill since the 1960's, I know the buns are supposed toasted and warm. Apparently toasting another bun was was too much for her to do. Another customer who was watching this girls' attitude, to me said not to bother, that she was as rude and nasty to him as she had been to me. Take the other reviews underneath mine, and the fact that the hamburger was just ok, ask who is running this asylum, and run down the street for way better burgers and service! read more

This is the least clean of the Windmills I've visited. The food is as good as others in for example Ocean Grove or Long Branch, no problem there, rather it's the lack of cleanliness that's super unappealing. The counters are messy with salt, straw wrappers, and condiments on them. Nothing a little attention by the staff couldn't fix. Sloppy, unkempt sticky counters and condiment stations are unacceptable and something a Manager should train their crew should to be on top of. read more

So I just had an experience that I'd love to forget, but don't think that I will any time soon. Went in with my wife to get a dog and cheese fries and it went downhill from there. We were "greeted" by the cashier who took our order (with an attitude). A very simple order for 2 hot dogs and 2 cheese fries to go. And a side of cheese for the hot dog. "A side of cheese for the fries?" No, a side for the hot dog. "It's gonna be a dollar". That's fine. Then the gentleman working the fryer asks if we would like our order to eat in or to go? We answered to go please. Then the oh so helpful cashier asks us if it's to go ? Which we replied yes, please. Then they hand us the hot dogs on a tray to put on toppings. So I put on mustard and then handed back the tray. The gentleman at the fryer asked the cashier to wrap our hot dogs. She grabbed some foil and wrapped my wife's hot dog to go. As she was wrapping my hot dog I watched her touch the hot dog and bun with her bare hands. I asked for another hot dog because she was not wearing gloves and had touched my food. The gentleman said no problem and started to grab me a new hot dog. The cashier then muttered, "it's not like I was touching my ass." That's where I kinda lost it... I asked her if she had touched any money. And then informed her that money is very dirty and that she shouldn't be touching food without gloves. Not sure if she rolled her eyes or made a comment but at that point I told the gentleman that We didn't want the food and I wanted a refund. Not happy with our service and not sure when we'll be back Had to rate a 1 star even though I don't want to give any on this visit. read more

I have been abstaining from Gluten for the past 3-4 weeks. It seems to be helping me and I have lost some weight and have been feeling much better. I was on vacation last week at the Jersey Shore and cheated big time regarding the Gluten free stuff. We ended up going to the Windmill for some dogs and fries. OMG. It was awesome! The thing about hot dogs in NJ is that they are prepared differently depending on the region of NJ. The Windmill cooks them on the griddle as compared to deep fried in north Jersey (Rutt's Hut). I've lived in the area for a few years and finally decided to try it out. Can definitely say I'll never go back. The chicken sandwich tasted and smelled disgusting. The regular fries were ok but the cheese fries were the worst I've ever had. Prices are high for the quality and when you add the fries and drinks... $34 for 1 kids meal, Ranchero chicken sandwich, hot dog, regular fry, cheese fry and 2 drinks. Looking for a descent bite to eat, came up The Windmill Always heard allot about it always to many other places to be during the summer to stop. Looked at the menu, almost got one of them Hot dogs, but was not in mood. So ordered a Bacon Burger, Onion rings (One size offered) & bottle of water. I was asked if I wanted cheese on the burger, "Of course I said" not making much of it, than I asked if I want lettuce, tomato onions.. I told him "just tomato & little mayo". That will be $13.95, OK paid for meal as I waited I looked at bill, I got charged above & beyond the Burger price on the menu for the cheese & tomato. I thinking to myself that is wrong & petty, but heard it was good so I hoped for a good meal. The Burger was nothing special a Basic frozen Thin burger & a nondescript bun, 2 small pieces of bacon, & onion rings well about 8 of them (not very big either). Well the burger was bland & was OK, the onion rings where OK also. The water is water. Bottom line, I felt this place is very over priced for a run of the mill (excuse pun) tasteless burger & the small order of onion rings. In today's landscape I would have expected a better "homemade" style burger & some more onion rings. Too expensive for my taste for this meal. Probably should have had the hot dog but to nickle & dime for normal hamburger items puts a sour taste in my mouth. read more

Stopped by here the other day after hearing so many good things. I got a chili dog with onions and mustard and a plain dog with sauerkraut and mustard. Overall these were some pretty good hot dogs. Better than you are going to find at most places. I will say that they were not perfect though. The buns were a bit hard for my taste and I didn't love the chili. also, it was $12 for two dogs and a bottle of water which seemed a bit high. read more

Had their hot dog today for the first time. Granted it was at a festival rather than a store but they were very nice to me especially after I made a bunch of special requests too. I'm gluten free so I brought a hot dog roll and asked them to toast it on the grill. That helped hold the bread together (like the missing gluten) and added loads of flavor. I added mustard & sauerkraut, it was piping hot and by far the best hot dog I've had in years! Can't wait to go to the Belmar store soon for another one. read more

Small fast-food place by the beach. Not sure if it's local or not, but it's delicious! They sell foot-long hot dogs, burgers, fries, onion rings, and other American favorites. Condiments are self-serve and the staff is quite friendly. The restaurant itself is small, but there's a decent amount of seating on both sides. I had a bacon cheeseburger, amazing cheese fries, and a refreshing cup of Mountain Dew. No complaints there. My friends enjoyed the chili, hot dogs, and fresh onion rings. I dont't know know what the craze is. The burger meat tastes really weird. I mean it's entirety too big for the bun and tastes like wood chips. The cheese fries are amazing though and the dudes who work there are pretty funny and cool. Skip the burgers, stick to hot dogs and fries. read more

This is the first place I have been to in a really long time that got a hot dog right. It has crunch with every bite and tastes like it should. It isn't Zagat rated because it is terrible. It is worth going to if you like eating hot dogs. read more

I was at the Windmill today as I am most Wednesdays.....because its Senior day and the Hot Dogs are half price. I always have them there, but today we had a repair man coming at the house so I said I wanted to take them home but not to wrap them.. because wrapped hot food gets steamy I live less than five minutes away. I was charged almost Ten dollars and was shocked..they said the Owner said to charge full price if not consumed there..I've been going there for over twenty years and was very disappointed at the way I was treated.. the prior two weeks when we went there ..both times they forgot it was senior day and had to re'ring the total. one was just she forgot the other her first day and forgot o.k. no problem but This? I like the Windmill and will go back..but I guess you have to read the small printI could have said I was going to eat them out side at the tables..I guess Honesty is NOT the Best Policy As far as the rating goes that's just for the food read more

If you're looking for a veggie burger, this place can't be beat

This place has the potential to be really good, if it wasn't for the bad, over priced food and even worse service. I received several gift cards as a prize and decided to try the place out. The first issue is the price, I went with a small group of people and the total came to $42 for a few hamburgers, two hot dogs, and some drinks. The prices are out of sight, I could get roughly the same at Burger King for less than half the price. The gift cards, however, made up for it. The second issue was the terrible food. The bun upon which my burger sat was soggy, the fries were dry and pale. The burger patties were also burnt. The final issue was the lousy service. The woman who waited on us was deeply rude, she seemed almost annoyed at having to enter the gift cards into the register. We also received the wrong drink. When we asked for foil to wrap the food to go, the employee asked if we wanted it for free. What the hell?? Do they charge for a few strips of foil or is he just unfamiliar with restaurant policy? My overall feeling of this place is that it is NOT worth the money. Take my advice and go to McDonald's instead. read more

usually i like this place, but today i wasn't happy with my service. i come in and greeted by "sup" so i started giving my order and he goes "wow that's a lot" not paying attention to the items i was ordering, puts the order in kinda wrong. the hot dog comes out and i know i said chili dog but i got a chili cheese dog and had to ask for a new one( once i got home the bun completely fell apart). so then when i was waiting for my other food they continue to talk and not really pay attention to what's going on. i want the older women back she keeps them in check and she's awesome! read more

I'm a Jersey girl who has been going to the Windmill's along the jersey shore since I could walk. The best Burger, dogs and fries anywhere. The only thing they need to watch is their grill person- sometimes there is an inexperienced guy pressing away on the burgers with the spatula- making the all important sizzling sound which means all the great burger juices are ending up on the coals and rendering my burger a piece of cardboard. Never press burgers when they are cooking- EVER. As long as you keep a watchful eye on whose ever cooking your burger, you'll be very happy with the result. P.S. - I've noticed that the prices have been creeping up pretty regularly - it's not cheap food, but it is good. read more
