Stay far far away.... This place has been remodeled?? Seriously? When, in 1983?? Nothing about this experience was good... I went here because it was conveniently close to my hotel and I had a long day of travel... Some homestyle food sounded good... Yuck! The place is tired at best the ceiling is stained, the decor is a flashback to the 80's and the food is frankly way under par. The salad had wilted lettuce and there was so much dressing on it you could season another 10... The chicken fried steak was tasteless covered in bland gravy with a side of over cooked veggies and box cooked mashed potatoes! What is good about this place???? read more

I come here for the breakfast. The East moline omelette is great and so are the biscuits and gravy. Best breakfast place in town.

Our meals were great! Portions were unbelievable! Great prices and Kim our server was outstanding!!! Dessert was out of this world!

If I could give than than 1 star i would. I have some food allergy individuals in my family. We were going here to celebrate an adults birthday, we had 20 people. When asked about food allergies their response was basically "not my problem" in fact when asking the restaurant specific questions their response was "I Dont know". There was NO attempt to find out or care nor was it their issue. I tried to explain, you are in business to serve food, don't you think having some sort of knowledge on those issues are a concern. She said " don't k ow what to say, we are JUST a family restaurant. Well this is one place we will NEVER go back to again. Not worth a penny for the food or the fact they don't care. Yep, it's in Moline. Will you ever go there? Probably not. Last weekend I was visiting family that I had not seen in a long time and my great uncle took all of us here for dinner. For a diner in Moline, Illinois, this joint was pretty classy. My great uncle explained that the previous owners sold the business over 10 years ago and bought it back two or so years ago. They completely remodeled, and it shows. This is a bit fancier than your standard diner - new furniture, no plastic seat covers, great bakery case. The back room is pretty big and used for parties/large groups. There were several large groups of people there when we arrived so it's obviously the place to be if you're going out with your church friends on a Sunday afternoon. Our server was divine - very friendly, smart and fast. There were about 10 of us, so I understand how difficult it can be to remember everyone's order. She managed to do it, though! I ordered the beef sandwich with marinara sauce (I think they called it a Crisper?) and it was pretty good. I think there was way too much meat and not enough sauce, but it was tasty with a nice wad of melted provolone on top. It came with some sweet chicken and rice soup which started the meal nicely. I mean, c'mon, it's a diner. My great aunt said they had a great spinach pie (which four people in our group ordered) and they all liked it. Try that if you ever find yourself at Windmill. Good place to eat, good quality diner fare (and a pretty big menu to boot) and friendly service. I went there with family, and after reading other reviews I decided to order a hamburger thinking it would be safe. The burger was mediocre and an hour after I left I had horrible stomach cramps. Our group ordered a variety of items and none of them were very appealing. We ordered spaghetti for my four-year-old daughter. The portion was adult sized and really not very good. The sauce was bland and tasteless and the noodles were over done. This place appears to be a local geriatric hang out because everything is planned and the same. Shocked & disappointed in this restaurant especially since I've been going there for several months, but during the start of COVID-19 when all the other restraunts were closed inside theyre dining room still remained opened with none of the employees wearing mask & when they had curbside delivery none of the employees were wearing any masks coming to the cars bringing their food out. Stopped here for the first time this morning. There's nothing that really grabs the attention of passing motorists, so I'm guessing the majority of their business is neighborhood locals. We walked in and were pleasantly surprised, the interior was nicer than we expected, and we were greeted and seated right away. Our waitress Bev was friendly and took care of our needs very efficiently and the food came out promptly. Our food was good and we enjoyed it but i don't really see breakfast as the meal to really judge a restaurant by, so I will have to return and give the dinner menu a try. My first experience with this restaurant was good and I didn't see anything that would keep me from returning to, or recommending this restaurant. read more

I frequent this place only because my grandparents enjoy the food and coffee. I'm satisfied with the food for the most part. It tastes like something I've made at home. However, the service is terrible. There is only one waitress who actually takes good care of my son and family when I visit there. She's always in a good mood and interacts with my child. The rest of them, including the owners, don't know customer service. The lady who sat us today just tossed the menus on table and walked away without saying a word. Then, as the OWNER of the restaurant kicked chair as he walked by. No big deal..but he didn't say anything. Even a "Oops" would've done. If it wasn't for my grandparents enjoying this place, I probably would only get food to go. read more

The menu is huge. Too huge. It makes me think that they cannot possibly store all that food without most of it being frozen. The decor is dated. It is a pretty typical mediocre "Family Restaurant." Our family reserved the back room for a post funeral lunch and was told we would have the entire back room. When we arrived, there was another funeral party in the same room at the same time so we were crammed in with no way to move around and visit, etc. It was very disappointing and we would never consider doing that again. This family restaurant is more like a family owned diner with a somewhat outdated interior. However, the restaurant boasts a extremely large menu. You can get breakfast anytime of the day. It is not fine dining by any means but all of the dishes I have had there are very satisfying and the price is very reasonable. I usually get a french dip or else I usually just go for one of there amazing breakfast plates. Try the strawberry waffles or french toast. Very good little restaurant at a quality price. read more

The Windmill is newly remodeled. The food is very good bordering on fantastic. Young Chef Jose' is venturing new dishes all the time, very creative mixed with standard very good offerings that are popular with the regular customers. Service is very good and friendly family atmosphere. read more

This place does breakfast well. Eggs, bacon, toast, pancakes, etc. Have visited for dinner and tried to order a steak which they didn't have two of the types of steaks they had listed on the menu. Another time I ordered the Monte Cristo... was served two pieces of French toast with some the ham and unmelted cheese inbetween. So I only visit it for breakfast on occasion, it's well priced and the waitresses are friendly and quick. read more

Hard to find non-meat items, but both the owner and waitresses will work with you until something comes up! The owner knows many by sight, and he also supports other area restaurants. I had breakfast here today with 6 other family members. I ordered a simple breakfast of scrambled eggs, potato cakes, and ham. When I received my meal, I took one bite of my ham and immediately realized it was spoiled. By that time I had only eaten half of my eggs and a few bites of my potato cakes. I notified the waiter (who was the only good part of this experience) who then came back and said he had taken $1.55 off our bill for the ham. My husband commented that most restaurants would take the entire meal off, not make a small deduction for spoiled food. The waiter returned to say that the meal had been taken off our bill. My father-in-law began to freak out because he had eaten most of his ham already, and asked me to taste his (he cannot taste or smell, he is a heavy smoker) I told him I had already tasted the ham and knew it was bad! Then the owner, Miltos came to our table to smugly say "so you say your ham was spoiled, we just received a delivery yesterday." I said well it doesn't matter when you received the delivery, the ham was spoiled. Miltos then said that was impossible. My husband asked him if he saying that I wasn't telling the truth? Then my husband asked him if he had tasted the meat from my plate, to which Miltos replied no. Miltos tried to argue that the ham was not spoiled, then asked about my father-in-law's ham which was from the same ham, to which we replied, we don't know about his but he can't smell or taste. My husband said he was not going to argue with him, go taste the ham from my plate, then come back out and we will have a further discussion. We waited for quite some time; but Miltos NEVER returned, so we had our answer to the spoiled ham question! We then went to pay, and the cashier asked about our experience. My husband replied that she should talk to the owner and she would know the answer to the question. She said will maybe you need to speak to him yourself. My husband said we already had to no avail. She then smugly asked if he needed a hug! I have eaten here many times over the past 25 years, but have never had such an experience. I will never go back here again! If you can serve spoiled ham with NO apologies, you would serve anything to your customers! Spoiled ham is unacceptable! read more

I do not think it is proper for an owner to go and ruin a family anniversary/ birthday party by using the f-word. My family had made reservations for mom and dads 65 anniversary. My son and wife made a cake and took up there. Now there is no notification anywhere saying there is a minimum order charge. Since they had just eaten they ordered something to dring and when the rest of the family was done eating they was going to order ice cream to go with the cake. The owner decided he would go and get rude and cuss saying you just dont want to dirty your own house so you come up here to make a mess. I have small grandkids who didnt need to hear this language being yelled at their dad in a public place. Many times I go into a place just for coffee.
