During my junior and senior years of highschool, I was a student at The Rock Shop at Suffield…read moreMusic. During that time I was able to collaborate and work with other musicians my age as well as work with amazing instructors who helped us develop into a band and build out our songwriting craft. We got to write original songs, perform in local events, and get the experience of being in a band while still in highschool. I was able to build relationships with musicians that helped me later when working with other bands and artists. I am now 25, and while that was 7 years ago, it was an important part of my journey as a musician. I would definitely go back and do it all again if I could. It was fun knowing that after school I could go be in rock band with friends in a safe environment and have access to professional gear and have the support of professional musicians to help us along the way. I have since graduated from Berklee and am now working in the audio industry in Cambridge Massachusetts. You never know where you're going to end up, but how you get there and where you start is important. If you're looking for proper lessons or getting started in a band, The Rock Shop is the place.

I even got a nickname there which truly made me feel like I belonged. Also, I find the prices to be reasonable which is appreciative! I cant speak highly enough about Jodi. He has a great energy, is kind and incredibly knowledgeable. I feel his lessons progressed me far! After 10 sessions, I know proper form, can read music and can play one of my favorite songs on the kit! Just an FYI, you may need to park along the side walk across street. No biggie.

Over the course of four years, I took private voice, piano/theory, and acting lessons, and I also participated in musical theater and audition workshops. Summit Studios provided me with a solid technical foundation and also gave me the confidence to pursue a career in music, which includes undergraduate and graduate degrees in Voice/Opera Performance and professional work with companies such as Ohio Light Opera, Wolf Trap Opera, Seattle Opera, and Santa Fe Opera. I had never even HEARD opera before studying at Summit Studios, but my knowledgeable teacher heard the potential in my voice and steered me in the best possible direction. I am now enjoying a career as a young professional opera singer largely because of the musical education and mentoring that I received at Summit Studios!

I like lights better after all. So I went here to get it set up for lights again. I didn't hear anything after a week, so I asked about it on Saturday. The store manager said he'd get to it. He emailed me back and said he didn't have the right size tool to adjust the truss rod. So he couldn't adjust the action. What did I want to do? I kept it as is. But my guitar is a standard 2019 model without an exotic truss rod. So I asked about him about the guy who had worked on my guitar last year as I'd seen him at the West Hartford store too. "He doesn't work here anymore, as of early July." "Okay. Are you planning on hiring a new guitar tech guy in the future?" "Guitar tech ability isn't a priority when I hire someone. He just happened to do it. And we don't buy new tools to work on guitars either." Ohhhhhkay. So he basically told me setups/repairs on guitars are not something he cares about or has any interest in investing in. I realize doing this isn't the only service a store like this offers, but I did think it was ONE of the basic services it would offer. He told me no. In so many words, go somewhere else. So I will. Only trouble is I don't drive so not quite as easy as it is for most, but I was clearly barking up the wrong tree here. It all seemed pretty strange to me. Never encountered this before in a music store.
