As I had been building a wine collection stored mostly in boxes in a cool room in my basement, I decided my quarantine project at home to keep me busy would be to make a full-on wine cellar with one of my rooms. Wine Cellar Innovations has tons of information on their site on how to start on the project, and it was a lot of fun to clear out the space, insulate it, and get it ready for their racks. The racks themselves were great quality mahogany, and largely assembled. It takes a bit to get the hang of the way they go together, but once you build your first rack, the others go together super easy. They even included an air nailer setup which made it a breeze - I couldn't imagine doing it any other way! They also offer a free design service which I tried (because hey, it's free, why not?), but I wanted to add a bit more complexity to my design, and as you can probably already tell I'm more of a DIY person in that regard anyway, I took on measuring and fitting in components they have available. Everyone I dealt with was excellent, and the only reason it's not 5 stars is that despite them including multiple spare pieces in the racking kits, there were a few pieces that came incorrectly cut from the factory. I contacted them and they sent replacements no questions asked, so it was only a bit of delay in completing the project. Overall, the project came out amazing and I recommend WCI to anyone looking to build wine racks. They're well built and well-priced. read more

Not only is it incredibly frustrating to be put off by their customer service team (often having to call us back or promising to send an email later instead of handling it on the phone), but it is beginning to feel like we have been scammed for pieces that will never arrive. Frustrating. Waste of Time. Non-Functioning Systems. I just needed price tags, that's it. I tried to place an online order. The response was that "The transaction was denied." Knowing that there wasn't an issue with my account, I re-entered the order assuming that I made a typo. The system response was "A duplicate transaction was submitted." The 2 messages can't both be true. I called Sales. The person stated that there wasn't a transaction but it takes 30 minutes for it to show on his end. I called back an hour later to place the order over the phone. The online total was $39.83 yet the over the phone total was $53.08. I didn't place the order. It's shouldn't be hard to place an order. (2/24 Update) Alex from WCI called me today about the review above. The systems issues should be resolved with new software developers and a system design error was the reason for 2 different prices for the same product. Extremely disappointing. I ordered a wine rack back in November of 2021. I was told it wouldn't ship until January 20th, which I understand because of COVID and supply chain issues. A few days after I placed my order I received another email saying they only had 7 of the 10 units I had ordered. So I decided to just get the 7 they had. after hearing nothing, I reached out to them on January 21 to see where my order was. They said it had shipped and been delivered. I never received an email confirming a shipping date or time. I also never received the order ( I have video camera's on my house). They had no idea what happened to my shipment, said they'd send out another shipment and then a few days after that said they didn't have that item. So after waiting for 2 and a half months I got nothing. I was also never approached with options or alternatives. I simply got a refund so I can spend my money elsewhere. I purchased a wire wine rack system back in July. They can't follow their own designs. There are supposed to be two acrylic shelf columns with 6 shelves, they sent it with 7 each so we need to adjust everything. The wine storage system was supposed to be two walls of 13 columns each. They only sent 12 columns. Their design calls for 4 inches apart but then when you ask them it it is supposed to be only 3.75 inches apart to account for slack so the wall is 3 inches shorter than we asked for. They only sent hanging hardware for half the system, so it is useless to me right now. When you call customer service they never answer and when you email them they aren't responsive. They tell me the pieces are ordered but then when you ask when its going to ship, they don't answer. I spent almost $10k on a system that is not complete nor installable. read more

I bought semi-custom racks from Wine Cellar Innovations for about 200 bottles for a wine cellar I built. I was very happy with the result. The racks were nicely stained and look very nice. The price was excellent and they had lots of options. They shipped promptly and were well packaged. I bought them about 2 years ago and they have held up beautifully (light use). They also followed up personally (actual human, not auto email) to make sure that I was happy with my purchase. I would absolutely purchase from this company again. The one downside and the reason I deducted a star is that assembling the racks was a giant pain and the instructions weren't very good. The interlocking pieces fit together so tightly that at first I thought I was doing something wrong. Eventually I got them to fit by wrapping the pieces with towels and walking on the joints, which actually worked quite well. I did get the optional compressor and nail gun and I think this is absolutely mandatory. Otherwise you would have to drive hundreds of tiny nails by hand. read more

Attached is a photo of the racks. I placed them in the center of an IKEA cabinet arrangement which form a square with the racks in the center. I'd like to start this review off with a positive: the initial intake at Wine Cellar Innovations was great and Heather was very helpful. She helped us find the right wood and stain to match our already existing cabinets. She helped us come up with a design we liked and would match the rest of our kitchen. Everyone was polite, friendly, and helpful. Heather told us one of the designers/someone else would email us a quote by the end of the week. A week comes and goes and no email or call. We call the office back and Heather tells us the designer/person who was suppose to give us a quote went out of town before taking care of our project. A week later said person calls us and clearly has no idea what is going on. Asks us to explain the whole project to him and everything we've already gone over with Heather. Told us he'd email us a quote by the end of the week. Two weeks come and go and we haven't heard anything from them. If they didn't want to take on our project (a custom built-wine rack to put installed our fridge), then just tell us so. We have now wasted a whole month and have nothing to show for it. If they had told us they were not interested in our project during our initial meeting or the first phone call, then we could have found another contractor or specialist to take care of our project, and it would have likely been done by now. I suspect we were given poor customer service because we were looking for a medium sized wine rack instead of a whole custom wine cellar (bigger project=bigger profits). However that is just my conjecture. Regardless, I was very optimistic to find a company to do our custom request so close to home and with such great reviews, but ended up being ignored and disregarded. Very disappointed. read more

I think they are out of business. Nobody answers the phone. Web Site is down. Calling names of employees shown on LinkedIn in any department (sales, support, etc.) using dial by name directory results in "name not found" or for the two names that did connect, the voicemail was full. I am not optimistic that I will get the $2,000 order I placed in April. No communication from company other than email acknowledging initial order. No Status, no updates - NOTHING - unless I called them. After first month of frustration I called and reached someone who was clearly off-shore and was told I'd get product in early June (would have been nice to know when I placed the order that nothing was in stock). Now its mid June and I haven't received anything, I can't reach anyone online or otherwise. In an era of Amazon-like service levels, modern eCommerce technology, these guys just don't get it. Thankfully I have protection from my credit card company. My next call I guess I have to reverse the charge and start over. UPDATE 6/15/22 After posting my review a now former employee sent me a note on Yelp. She said: Hello, I read your review and yes the company closed down yesterday. He let go of all the employees including myself without a notice. I received information that he will be filing for bankruptcy and that all the customers who had orders placed will get their money back but I'm not sure how the timeline for that will look. I wanted to message you to confirm that the company is closed. I'm sorry you had this experience. I'm not an office employee, just a regular factory worker so there isn't any more information that I know or can give you. We built three pine wood racks from Wine Cellar Innovations. Working with these product kits was a lesson in; 'You get what you pay for' We were disappointed in the wine rack parts we received. We would have returned them, but the hassle outweighed keeping them. We worked around the poor craftsmanship. Our first clue that this product might not be the quality we expected was the images on their website were illustrations, not photographs... Had they been photos, we would have noticed the flimsy, irregular or warped beams and the many large knots in the wood. Luckily, my husband suspected the wood might spilt easily and decided to use screws instead of the nails that came with the kits. We now have them built and stocked in a corner of our basement that no one will see but the bottles of wine and my husband and me. Our experience with WCI has been nothing but positive over the past couple of years. We met with a designer who talked with us about our thoughts on size, number of bottles, etc., then a week or so later had an initial design. While we loved the design, we thought it a bit too large, so after providing that feedback, we got another design in about a week. We settled on a little over 900 bottles because we felt it was something that we could grow into. We then proceeded with building out the room and finishing the floor to get ready for installation. I didn't want to chance messing up installation, so I left that to the WCI professionals. About a week before the install, all the racks were delivered. We immediately unpacked and inspected them. No issues with the quality of the product or the stain we chose--it was exactly as we expected. We worked with the installer on schedule and left a week for the install. Much to our pleasant surprise, he finished a day early. That was a couple of years ago and I finally found something to put in our archway, but it required an uninstall of the archway. So, I contacted WCI again and asked if they could uninstall the archway and reinstall once I put the mural up. Victor worked with me almost daily to understand what we needed to get done, so he could then put a quote together. When it came to the uninstall, they had another job in the area and said they could uninstall on a Monday and reinstall on a Friday in order to give me time to get the mural up. I was able to get the mural in place that Monday evening and the installer said he could be back the next day. All in all, we are so pleased with the results and now the cellar looks complete. The team was very helpful and patient. The racking shipped as promised, was very good quality and fit perfectly making for a optimized wine storage answer. My only criticism is that the construction instructions could have been clearer. I am a bit handy and was able to work through it, but it may be a challenge for some. After exploring our options, we decided to use Wine Cellar Innovations because they were able to provide a complete end to end solution. We worked with Trish Stokes, who helped us with the design and stayed involved throughout the entire process. Trish is very knowledgable, and made great recommendations that allowed us to leverage standard racking while mixing in some custom components so we could create the wine cellar we wanted while staying within our budget. She also referred us to contractors to install the refrigeration and assemble and install the racking. As the contractor began assembling the racking, he identified a few missing parts. He took care of ordering replacements, which were quickly shipped to us. It took two very long days for him to put it all together, but we couldn't be more pleased with the results.
