Located on the second floor of the Gaslight Brewery and Restaurant, U Brew doesn't resemble a traditional retail location, although that's a plus because the lower overhead is reflected in the reasonable prices. Your best bet is to order beforehand and pick up your supplies anytime the bar is open. Good stuff!

This place just opened a few months ago in the middle of nowhere, Long Island. I have been to all…read morethree brew shops in Suffolk that I know of and this is the best I have come across so far. They have a large selection of hops, grains, brewing supplies, and yeasts. The prices are fair and the owner will get whatever is needed for local brewers. Karps in Northport is pretty cheap and they are very friendly but brewing is an afterthought there as it is primarily a hardware store. Sometimes they do not have people on staff that know about the brew section. Also it is a bit disorganized and small. Arbor Wine has a very nicely laid out store with even distiller supplies but their prices are about 50% more which makes it prohibitively expensive. Brew and Beyond has large containers of bulk grains and a convenient electric mill to process your grains free of charge. They are in a tough location but people are known to travel long distances for home brew. Please give it a go if you are in the area because it is both good and a small business that is going to need word of mouth to survive.

Sort of passing on information in a Yoda-like fashion. The service did not stop there. He printed out recipes with the ingredient amounts and emailed me instructions. I received tips on clubs around the island for homebrewers to join and learn more. Lastly on brew day I emailed him questions, called him and he gave me every pointer he could. If you are a homebrewer, this is where you should shop for your supplies!

They also have bottles fairly cheap, when you find yourself inept at drinking enough to keep your bottle supplies high enough for bottling days, as well a variety of special bottles if you want to do a special brew such as one I did last Christmas for presents. If you don't have the time money or know how to invites in your own brewing equipment, you can just brew there! Also when you sign up for their emails and such the first time you get a pretty swag bumper sticker. Total worth the visit.

The staff was super friendly - I called them to ask a few questions and they were knowledgeable and really fast to respond. The kit was a great value, and the beer came out pretty good for our first try at pumpkin!! I would absolutely order from them again in the future. I bought 25 Sparkling wine bottles (they sell them in packs of 5 for their kits). Turns out these…read morebottles weigh 527gr and are much lighter and thinner than real Champagne bottles that are more like 800-900gr (see photo). Consequently, I don't trust that they can withstand the 6+ bar pressure that can develop in the bottle when fermenting wine in the bottle (methode Champenoise). I would think some may explode so do your homework and if you proceed with these bottles, wear eye protection and gloves. I tried to get the weight of the bottles from customer service, prior to ordering, but I did not succeed. They just assured me that they were suited for making sparkling wine, so no I am stuck with 25 bottles that I cannot use, which is why the one star review.

The employees are always polite & helpful, I don't have to own the container or wait for my refill since they just simply swap the one you already put a deposit on until you're ready to return it for good. The price for the 10 lbs refill may not be the cheapest around ($30, I think!), but a few extra bucks is worth the convenience, and still saves me tons of money over getting my refills online.
