They sell everything and beyond. When U are doing a project and just need that one little odd part, they have it. I also love the fact that I can order hunting ammunition and pick up after a back round check. Was at Karps a couple of times in the last week or two and it looks like they are getting set to close down. Their shelves are BARE - does not look like they are restocking anything. The store has been convenient for me to shop at and they always had good inventory of items but it does look like as of now they are not restocking and it looks like they will shut down. Does anyone else see this? I got no response from the counter person when I asked after they did not have popular items I needed. read more

In my honest opinion and the people that I have talked to in the reviews that I have read people do feel the same way that I do it is a great store to be in they have a lot of selection and the customer service is unbelievably outstanding however when you get to the back of the store where they sell the guns the woman and the older gentlemen both have an attitude ans acts like they dont want you to be there and so does the man they don't even want to help you if you don't look like an older man and you haven't shopped there before they don't want to help customers they really don't even care about you unless you're a regular I will be taking my business elsewhere however I will be returning to the hardware store because that staff is great read more

I went to Karps hardware and bought $65.00 worth of items. $40.00 of which was for rubber tubing to fix my window screens. I wanted 20 feet because I did not know how much I needed to fix the screens. Karps hardware charged me $1.87 per foot so the tubing alone was $40.00. I went home and put the bag on my stove. Finished washing my windows and then went to unpack the bag of stuff I bought from Karps. While unpacking the bag I pulled out the rubber tubing and it did not look like 20 feet to me. My husband and I measured it and it was only 12 feet. I went back to Karp's with the receipt and the tubing. Karps employees looked at me and told me that I went home and cut the rubber tubing, accusing me of being a thief. I have lived here for 30 years, have 4 children, 1 in the marines and to be called a thief was heartbreaking to me. I will never shop there again on principle and I hope when wind of this gets out others in our fine community will do the same. Stop shopping there, they are not about community and decent values. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would, the man who was working at the time I went should work in a sewer by himself, because his personality was atrocious. He was extremely rude and has no knowledge of anything, and blew a 1700$ sale. I went in and the man was ignoring me, I asked him about a product and it took 3 times for him to even answer me when I was speaking to him, mind you I was the only person in the store. When he finally opens the case, and I have the product in my hand he states not to close the cylinder and don't cock it. He was standing right to me so close I could smell his breath. I had my fingers in the throat of the product with the cylinder open, pointed at the case looking for a serial number and he smacked my hand, and said do not point the product at me. My hand was nowhere near the trigger nor butt of the product, he has a better chance getting shot by the bullets in the shelf behind him, cause it would have had to be a magic bullet that came out of that product to hit him. I was appalled by his idiocy, and I was going to buy the product. If he is the owner he should be out of business and if he works there he should be fired immediately, as he has no sales personality nor knowledge on products if he thought I was pointing it at him. Karp's is the best Hardware Store on Long Island (now that Fox's in Setauket is closed). I am so glad I still have this resource available to me, as many people across the country are relegated to Home Depot and Lowes as their only sources of Hardware, and that is just a sad state of affairs. I went to Home Depot a few weeks ago and asked where I could find rubber grommets, and not only did NO ONE in the place even know what I was talking about, but when someone finally did figure out what I was looking for I was informed it was a "specialty item" that needed to be specially ordered. I swung up to Karp's and they had a selection of about 15 different sizes and it cost me $0.75 for one. I've never been let down by Karp's. They do have an admittedly (they admit it themselves) small selection of paint, but they have to compete with a local Aboff's and a Benjamin Moore store, both within miles, so I don't fault them too much. But when I converted my old shower from the old three-handled faucet to a single-body unit, they had everything I needed, and even gave me a personal tutorial and a confidence boost when I told them it was my first time soldering plumbing pipe. I hope Karp's stays there forever - they seem to have a nice niche market and they compete fantastically well with the worthless Home Depot just down Larkfield. read more

It was a bit of a hike but I went here to buy some home brewing supplies (and some hardware as well). Awesome hardware store. Helpful people. I had researched carboy prices before going and Karp's was the lowest. They had almost everything I needed (one item was out of stock) and I was very happy with their home brew supplies and selection. I will definitely be back for that section of the store. They also had a nice canning section which was a surprise to me. Next time I go I can buy hardware, window caulk, brewing supplies, and canning jars. . . Which is the odd mix of what I need. The workers even carried my bottles and carboys to my car without being asked for assistance. Great place. I will go out of my way to give them more of my business. read more

Our children received sled's as a gift from Karp's. Our children have multiple sleds. Figuring we won't use these we called several times trying to get a courtesy to exchange them for other items in the store. We were told that the manager Alan had to decide. Whoever answered the phone kept giving us the run around for weeks as Alan would never return our calls. Seriously, for a "community" store to be this difficult, I caution future patrons. I make the drive to Karp's because their selection of homebrew equipment and ingredients is great and their prices are really good as well. the ingredients are always fresh and there is always someone around to help me out if I have questions or need help locating something. I got my initial equipment setup from them and they didn't try to push any non-essential stuff on me. I live alot closer to the hydroponic shop on Horace Harding expy but it seems that their approach to homebrew is spelled out on their sign, "...and homebrew too." I've gone in for stuff i needed on the fly and also for some yeast. every time, its always like the impossible dream to get help and their prices aren't all that great. When i went to get yeast, I had already pitched it when I noticed that the date on the bottle was already 2 weeks past expiration. Live and learn. Karp's is out of the way but well worth the drive because I know that I'll get what I need and what I want. read more

Great home brew shop. I love this place. It combines 3 awesome stores in one building: 1) hardware store, 2) home brew store, 3) gun store. It doesn't get any better than that. Sorry guys, I just can't agree. Very poor customer service. In this economy, I am surprised a small business would turn away and be rude to customers, especially during store hours. They are self interested and not willing to help out someone who drove well out of their way to come to the store. I can get what for homebrew supplies at Cornell's Hardware in westchester. It's about the same drive and they bend over backwards to be nice. I will never shop at Karp's again and suggest you skip it. read more

I have been using Karps for as long as I have been in town. Which is well over 20 years. I hate going to the big box stores But, after Hurricane Sandy, this store was selling 2 gallon gas cans for almost 24.00. In my book that is price gauging. I bought a set of 6 hex drivers from them. Discovered much later on that two of the drivers were the same size. I still had the receipt and went in to ask if they could swap the duplicate. I've been going to Karp's for years and have never been let down. They have an expert staff that is always willing to help you. When I started brewing beer a couple of years ago, they were able to answer all of my questions and assuage my anxiety. In response to the reviewer who panned them for price gouging 2-gallon gas containers for $24, a cursory review of 2 gallon containers for sale on the internet shows a price range of between 12 and 82 dollars, depending on the kind of container. I am sure that you were not price gouged but that the cost merely reflected the store's wholesale costs. Karp's has saved me money on many occasions, and they are not the kind of people that would price gouge. read more

Been going here since I was a kid. Great service, huge selection of items (if they dont have it then you dont need it) and a no questions asked return policy. Love these guys above all the rest. Plus they have a bathroom and a kickin selection of blues jump music always playing. Went to check out there firearms , very well informed about what there selling nice selection of ammo.

I live about eight miles from the store and it's a lot easy to go to other closer places, but these guys have it together. Best hardware selection, good tool selection and the prices are better than Grainger and the specialty hardware stores. When I call to check stock they know what I 'masking for. I ask for a helicoil or a number 9 bit, , and the guy on the phone knows what that is! Anywhere else i call I get dumb answers. Good metal selection, flat stock and threaded rod. read more

5 stars because Karp's is hands down the best hardware store in the area. They 1. have what you need 2. will answer questions over the phone in a helpful and efficient manner 3. are 1/2 the price of another nearby hardware store (Ace). Today I needed plumbing fittings. Called Karp's to verify they had what I needed, got help over the phone, ran into buy fittings. Easy peasy. Found out I needed more. Went to Ace bc it was closer. Lovely young man offered to help. When I got back to cash register, he had gotten me 3 of what I needed and 8 elbows that were totally different from the 1st three and different from each other! Hightailed it back to Karps, where, you guessed it, they had what I needed and at exactly 1/2 the price. Excellent local business! read more
