Love to Brew is a great brew shop in North Brunswick. They have ton's of supplies and are pretty knowledgeable if you need to ask them a no brainer about brewing, or pick their brains on some crazy concoction you want to brew. They also have bottles fairly cheap, when you find yourself inept at drinking enough to keep your bottle supplies high enough for bottling days, as well a variety of special bottles if you want to do a special brew such as one I did last Christmas for presents. If you don't have the time money or know how to invites in your own brewing equipment, you can just brew there! Also when you sign up for their emails and such the first time you get a pretty swag bumper sticker. Total worth the visit. read more

We purchased the Living Social deal last year and failed to use it, so we purchased the deal again this year. The Good: The class for learning how to brew your own beer was pretty good. It covers the basics, and after 60 minutes you really feel like you could walk out of the building and start brewing your own batch of yummy yeasty goodness. Our group was small, and allowed for Q&A if anyone was interested in learning a little more. The OK: In order to brew your own beer when you leave, you're going to have to purchase supplies. While this isn't a bad thing, just keep in mind that it isn't a cheap hobby to partake in. The Bad: No one seems to be able to help us with what to do with our expired Living Social deal. It is supposed to retain the value that we paid for it, but there is confusion over whether that occurs at the Love 2 Brew level or the Living Social level. The Interesting: Can't do it at home? This establishment also offers actual brewing capabilities right there on site. There is an additional fee associated with the effort, but it sounds like something that could be fun to do with a group. I came to Love2Brew after encountering a small hiccup when bottling my beer. They are located a little off the beaten path but rightfully so as they are located inside a rather large warehouse. After talking with the 2 gents in the store for a few minutes, I learned that they are the largest home brew store in the state. Good to know as I only live about 20 mins away. I found this place by sheer chance. About three years ago, I was heading to a shop on the same street to get a quote on getting my car painted and saw their sign on the side of the road. I had never brewed beer at the time, and didn't know anything about it, but I decided to stop by on my way home. I bought a starter one-gallon homebrew kit here that day, and it's since become one of my main hobbies. I've been coming back to love2brew ever since. They have a great selection of equipment and supplies, and they have more than just beer kits: they also sell wine and cider kits (which I've tried) and mead (which I haven't). They have a rack of homebrew books and magazines by the entrance, and a few of the books I've picked up there have really helped me understand the process at a deeper level. They are a great place to get answers to questions, especially if you're just getting started. They have unique (and delicious) beer recipe kits, like pumpkin spice milk stout, robust porter and chocolate stout. Also, they sell almost all their recipes in either 1-, 2.5- or 5-gallon sizes. I like to make smaller batches of beer, so the 2.5-gallon option hits the sweet spot. I haven't seen any other homebrew supply that offers that size. Their e-mail newsletter has introduced me to things like the conical FastFerment system, which has saved me tons of time when bottling. I just started getting into home brewing and was glad that there was a home brew store so close to my place. I stopped in twice already in the last couple of weeks to pick up supplies and just look around. Prices are competitive with online retailers and you save on shipping. Which can be expensive since a lot of brew equipment and ingredients can be big and heavy. The guys there are very helpful and took time to answer my newbie questions. My first brew didn't come out as expected so before starting the second brew I didn't a lot of reading and asked a lot of questions. Really knowledgable bunch of guys here. read more

Really happy these guys opened up. Finally a local homebrew place in the Somerset/New Brunswick area. Had to resort to ordering my stuff online when the place in Princeton moved down to the Trenton area. Its nice to be able to walk in and talk to someone without driving an hour each way. If you are lazy, like me, you can also just order your stuff online from them once you find the ones you like. I dig the American Brown Ale or the Irish Red Ale kit personally. read more

Even when I don't know what I want to make, I just walk in and ask for suggestions and they never disappoint. They are constantly having deals and new items for purchase which is bad because I spend too much money but the new stuff is awesome! I read about the shop in the Home News, and decided to check it out. One of the owners, Mark, spent an hour explaining the basics of home brewing, and even put together a pale ale recipe kit on the spot. I picked up their Complete Beer Making kit, and returned a week later for a bottle tree, Vinator and some other supplies. Their prices are competitive with every major brewing website I've seen, plus you get to pick their brains on brewing, something you don't get with a web store. My first batch is in the middle of fermentation, and I'm already planning my next brew. I'm glad we have such a comprehensive shop in the Central NJ area. read more

When the help at my local homebrew supply became snotty and less helpful, I began looking for another place to get "beer-gredients". I was using a place in Texas, which was great but took forever for the stuff to ship and their minimum for free shipping was much higher, then they did away with free shipping altogether. I was thrilled to find a place in NJ that offered free shipping. If you do order from them online, the package gets to you fast and fresh, usually in a day or two. It doesn't sit on the tarmac in Dallas. So my wife volunteered me to dog sit while she and her sister went to Ohio to visit family. I woke up one morning while they were gone and decided I wanted to brew while they were away but my local shop doesn't open until noon. Since they are only 45 minutes to an hour away and I didn't have anything productive to do, I decided to take a ride and check out their facility. I found it right away and had no trouble parking. The place is basically a warehouse with shelving full of brewing equipment down one side. As soon as I walked in I was greeted, which startled me. In my local shop I usually wander around for 10 or 15 minutes before anyone notices me. I told him I needed a recipe and a few odds and ends. Another guy got up and told me my recipe would be ready in 3 or 4 minutes. The first guy said I could shop for my stuff or he could gather it for me. I chose to get my own stuff so I could take a look around. There were no empty spaces on the shelves that I could see and the prices were excellent. There was no pressure and no one followed me and tried to upsell me anything. I found everything I needed except for one thing, which the cashier quickly retrieved. The guy was super friendly, no pressure and wasn't condescending at all. My overall impression was very positive. There were 3 young guys working there and the place was clean and orderly so they don't just sit there all day. The service was fast, polite, and they were very knowledgeable about their products. My only complaint is that they are so far away. It would be great if they opened a store a little closer. I will continue to buy from them online and I'll stop in whenever I'm in the area. read more

In terms of pricing, I've come out of here paying less than I have at any comparable shop in Philly or NYC. It's cheaper (and fresher) for me to come here than order online. Stopped in the replace a broken auto siphon and pick up a hefeweizen brew kit. The kits are tight, well designed and were put together quickly. 3 or 4 questions and I had exactly what I was looking for. While I waited I was able to taste some recent brews from the team. The Oktoberfest was super refreshing and tasty. Everything was well priced compared to my usual home brew spot. The guys were very friendly and not afraid to chat. Great customer service, a wide range of items, easy-to-navigate site... all of very competitive prices (with free shipping over $75). Avoid the private-equity controlled big homebrewing supply stores and buy here! The store itself is a little off-the-beaten path, but not at all difficult to find. I stopped in twice and the fellows are friendly and knowledgeable. The only negative, and it's pretty minor, is that while I haven't tried many of their recipe kits (I prefer to concoct my own), the one I made -- the West Coast Extract IPA -- wasn't particularly impressive. So apparently the class they sell on Groupon is NOT a home brew class like you'll find on every other site. They teach you the same things you can find on YouTube. Which is nice, but not $20/per person nice. Every other home brew class has you brew your own beer during the class. Or at least sample their many styles during the class. Not here. I stopped by the store a couple days ago to begin my wine making hobby. The guys were so informative, answered all of my questions and had everything I needed. They were awesome, didn't try to sell me on things I didn't need, and actually told me I probably have TOO much yeast. I took it anyway, as their prices were better than any I had seen online (including Amazon.com). I highly recommend this place. As I said, I am just getting started and they spent about an hour going over the whole process with me. Priceless. If you are just getting started or are a seasoned pro, I think you will like this place. Ordered some yeast online. Package came in normal looking shape, but the seal for the yeast had been broken and the yeast was everywhere inside this plastic bag. There was no way that the seal had been broken during shipping due to being inside a plastic bag, and wrapped in bubble wrap. Called the company, talked to someone who argued with me when I asked to send him some pictures of how I received the package, as this was a fault on their end of the order. I know that when shipping yeast it is imperative that the shipping may decrease the viability of the yeast, but when the seal was completely broken while no damage was done to the package/bubble wrap it seems though it was a on the company's end. Anyway, the person who I talked to stated to make a starter, and that there was nothing else they could do, even their end of the order was the problem, not shipping. I will not purchase from this company ever again due to the poor customer service and lack of ability to admit this was their fault. read more

Love this place. My loan complaint is their list of kits is small, but the guys running the place are the best. Their prices are fantastic and they always answer your questions about brewing. I used to order supplies online, now, I only go to Love2Brew. Also their kits while lacking in selection size, they have fantastic instructions and their Complete HomeBrew Kit is a fantastic bargain. My dad's been talking about getting back into brewing, so I thought I'd go in person to get him a kit because I honestly have no idea what is what. The staff was so friendly, helpful and knowledgable. They helped my mom pick out a good cleaner (since his brew kit has been sitting in the basement for five years) and some essentials he might need (cheesecloth, bottle caps, etc) while I was able to describe to them the little I know about how he brews and what kind of beer he likes. The put a kit together for him right there.
