This place is an absolute dump. I don't know where to start. So how about the lobby. It was about 80 degrees and muggy. No air conditioning in the lobby. The building is tired. As you go from the lobby to the hallway, you'll notice that they let some four year olds loose with paint brushes, thinking that maybe a few quarts of new paint means "remodel"... except no one told the painter about this invention called masking tape! The carpet was stained and worn. As we entered our room, there was stains on the floor. There's a jacuzzi tub in the main room. Weird. There was a bobby pin on the side of the tub, a prior guests key ring, the mirror was dirty, there was a bunch of hair on the carpet, a urine stain on the wall, the bathroom vanity light was crooked and tarnished, with mis-matched light bulbs. There was some broken plastic screwed to the shower wall where there used to be a soap and conditioner dispenser. The wood furniture was pretty chipped up with paint drips on several pieces. There was two holes in the ceiling, looked like bullet holes. There's a floor lamp in one corner, it doesn't have a light switch. There is a non working switch in the cord, but to turn the light off you have to unplug it. There were two can lights above the jacuzzi tub, one was burnt out. They had extra pillows in the closet, but there were no pillow cases on them. There was only one tiny waste paper basket for the entire room, so no trash can in the bathroom. There's a community center next door, and they were blasting DJ music until midnight. Kids from the community center were loitering outside in the parking lot yelling and making a bunch of noise. A walk around the outside of the building and there's broken rain gutters, dirty entry ways, and sticking doors. Upon showing the desk the hair ball we picked up off the floor which should have been vacuumed, and the key ring, told them about the bobby pin on the side of the tub, and showed them a photo of the urine stain, I was told there wasn't any other rooms to move us to because we have a dog. so I requested the room be re-cleaned before our second night stay. When we got back, the urine stain was still there, and so was the bobby pin. There comes a point where a hotel needs to be closed and remodeled top to bottom, or turned into a homeless shelter. Where do I Start!! Housekeeping is non existent! The place is filthy! We had a room with two queen beds. One bed didn't even have a fitted sheet. Requested that they remedy that and vacuum...twice, never happened. I will say that they provide a good breakfast for a hotel! Oh and take your own toilet paper! Just sayin!! This hotel experience was absolutely the worst I've ever had. I'll tell anyone looking for a place to stay to avoid it at all costs. It's cheap, but don't waste your money. The owner is completely insane. On our second night, she came to my room and accused me and my husband of not paying for the room we had booked. She screamed at me out of nowhere and threatened to call the police. I explained that I wasn't the one who rebooked the room and that I would call my husband to sort it out. But she was hysterical and flailing around, threatening me. I told her that was fine and to call the police because I knew we hadn't done anything wrong. She proceeded to call the police herself, making a scene and losing her mind. She gave me 15 minutes to get my stuff out of the room and told me not to come back. The police arrived and verified that my husband had paid for the room. They showed them the confirmation and bank statement. The owner told them that didn't prove anything, but it was only until she finally found the receipt on her own system that she stopped being clinically insane. She just walked out of the room with a huff, like a child who didn't get her way. The police apologized on her behalf and were very kind and helpful to us. They knew we had not done anything wrong and that something was seriously wrong with the owner. read more

The building was painted and the parking lot had parking spots. Workers are not super friendly but not necessarily mean or rude. Everything felt dirty, from the lobby to the room. The elevator was tiny and made scary noises. There was trim laying in the hallway that was tripped on. I am honestly not sure anything was washed or cleaned in this room. Unfortunately we couldn't get our money back to go somewhere else. When I asked the front desk to at least change the bedding with blood in it while we were gone for a few hours and give us a 3rd towel, it did not happen. When we got back I had to take the bedding to the front desk. Didn't even get an apology. Breakfast had some edible items. read more

Have you heard of Karen's Diner, where the staff specializes in being rude? Well, this is the hotel version. And if you're in to that, this is the place for you. This used to be the Best Western Plus Skagit Valley Inn and Convention Center. They switched over to Wingate by Wyndham about a month and a half ago. We're here for the Skagit Firecracker Tournament (June 23-25) and booked a 2 queen room back in mid April. When we arrived at 5:30p, went straight up to check-in. The lady working at the front desk was nice and welcoming but unfortunately our room wasn't ready. She said it should be ready in a couple of hours as they were still being cleaned. I thought, sure not an issue since we have a game that night and won't be done until 9p. After the game that night, we came back around 9:30p and had to check-in again. The guy at the front desk was apologetic and said that our room wasn't ready yet. At this point, I don't have the energy to get into a "friendly" conversation and decided to just wait it out. It's been a long day of traveling. So I just plopped my butt down on the lobby couch and jokingly said to the other parents/families there (also waiting for their rooms--and there are a lot of families waiting for their rooms to be ready) that I call dibs on the couch. My wife, at this point went up to the front desk and asked why our rooms weren't ready when other families that came in after us were getting their rooms. The front desk lady said to her in a not-so-friendly tone, "I don't think your clubs understand that we only have two cleaning staff and there are a lot of rooms to clean. I even have to go up and clean the rooms." That was completely unacceptable. The next thing I know, my wife got us our room after a long battle with the front desk lady at around 9:50p. I wasn't expecting a clean room at this point, but surprisingly, our room located on the 3rd floor was clean. So the room was ready. But they just didn't want to give it to us? What's the deal? A lot of people are here for the tournament and probably booked months if not weeks ahead. They would've known. How can rooms not be ready? What's upsetting is how the front desk staff's responded to the parents checking in. A lady went to ask the guy at the front desk why her room wasn't ready when they checked in earlier, and he responded with "if you keep complaining I'll cancel your room." And a few other people were told that if they don't like that their rooms aren't ready, they can leave. And some people left and they cancelled their reservation. There are a families from different clubs, from all over WA who booked this place, and I bet they won't be coming back--ever. Some families didn't get their rooms until closer to midnight. Paid for two nights and got 1 night. And late check out, denied. What's appalling is the way the front desk staff treated their customers. No apologies, nada. Some asked to check out later and they were denied. BUT everyone is expected to get their room late at night, way passed the check-in time? Good one, Wingate by Wyndham. Or, should it be LoseGate #Used and #Abused your customers. Now, a review of the place: The sign outside is just covered in something that says Wingate by Wyndham. Building accents are in blue instead of the Best Western Plus red. That's an improvement. And it looks exactly like when it was Best Western Plus--still dated. And some of the stuff in the room are still using Best Western. Breakfast: your typical scrambled eggs, breakfast sausages, fruits, cereal, biscuits and gravy, and make-your-own waffle. Verdict, drive-thru. Like drive through this place to another place if you have to stay in Skagit. read more

The receptionist at the front counter couldn't have been more unfriendly and unhelpful if she tried. When asked about places to see and eat, she replied with, use google maps. When asked for caffeinated coffee (our room was stocked with decaf only), she said without apology, "we are out". The draperies have burn holes, hanging loose and in extremely poor condition. The carpet in the room is buckled in several places, the sink is cracked, the refrigerator freezer is frosted over and the shower leaks. The room is a a nice size but that's about the only thing positive we can say. We had another nights stay booked on our way out of town, but have decided to cancel based on the uncaring vibe. read more

Our beds were clean. The AC wasn't loud. The room was fine. However be sure to bring your Leatherman in case you have to tighten a screw in the bathroom faucet. Also chintzy with tissue. But everything else you read is true. Dirty and unkempt hallways and lobby. Strange group of workers were dropped off by the carload early in the morning and devoured the best of the breakfast buffet, leaving the dregs for guests who woke an hour after buffet opened. This place is a real dump!! My friends and I had to change rooms, since the one that we reserved was filthy!! The lady at the front desk didn't take too likely to my complaint!! Also, before we changed rooms, there was this questionable man squatting down in front of the door of it. I didn't like that, at all! I don't judge people and how they choose to live their lives, but it looked as if he had done every illicit drug known to man!! Yeah, after we changed rooms, our room was near a side door that wouldn't close and that was an issue for me! Anyone could have come in off the street, as the surrounding area looked isolated and dodgey!! I could go on with a litney of things that were not right, but it won't change much!! Oh, the room that we changed too was filthy. We had to clean the floors, the bathroom, the mini frig, and the counter surfaces ourselves. I don't understand how Wyndham allows this mess!! This place really needs to be shut down for all the right reasons!! This is by far the worst hotel stay that I have ever experienced!! We were so sad that other hotels in the area were all booked!! This is a trashy old motel bought by a hotel chain with completely inadequate investment in its restoration. Think: tired, paper-thin walls; dirty, stained carpets; noisy A/C units with the scent of mold welcoming you to your room; and you wondering if you're going to leave this place with bedbugs. The bed wasn't terrible, but neither was it very comfortable. You'd do better pitching a tent in their parking lot. read more

It's an older building that needs an update. The smell of cigarette smoke hits you when you enter the building, but our room did not smell of smoke. Our room was clean, everything just looked old. By 9am there was no breakfast or coffee left. Breakfast is supposed to be available until 10am. Our room had coffee pods but no machine to make any coffee. There was no hairdryer either. read more

I will try not to ramble on about todays hotels but if you know the expression " putting lipstick on a pig" that pretty much explains it. The days of getting a clean room for over $100 but under $200 are gone. I have traveled for my job and stayed in many hotels. Unfortunately I have seen a decline in many businesses in taking pride in providing a great service to people. Since 2020 it has become worse. Many hotel companies like Wyndham have sold hotels to companies from other countries outside of the United States. Their main goal is to sloppily slap some paint on the wall, throw some furniture in the room with minimal service to make some money. The pride of providing the best service and the best and cleanest place to stay is gone. The bed was comfortable, I was able to take a bath and get a good nights sleep. The comforter on top of the bed was dirty and the carpet had not been vacuumed nor had the bathroom floor been swept. It does appear they are remodeling and the room looked as though that was the case. Would I stay here again, probably. read more

the worst. between the dirty room, as in hair the bath tub, the toilet not bolted down to the floor, the carpets and walls looked like something in a horror movie. the list goes on and on. I literally had to clean the room myself with Lysol wipes. until I couldn't take it anymore and finally asked for a new room..which that was a fight. and that brings me to the horrible costumer service at the front desk. I will NEVER stay here again. I'd rather sleep in my car. the people above us were terrible. the stomping, running, jumping, SHOOK our room. when I called the front desk hoping for help, it never came. and the noise continued. this is the worst experience. read more
