    Mold

Extremely disappointed with the cleanliness of this hotel. If you want to shower, do not stay here. Mold in the shower and window sill and overall just plain dirty even the carpet had pills and other things on it. There is no excuse for this kind of unsanitary, uncleanliness and overall neglect.

Clean. Basic. Locally owned. Fair price and a very simple but available continental breakfast.

Candlewood Suites Burlington - King size bed

Looking for a place to stay as my husband, our little girl dog and I are traveling from Tumwater,…read moreWa to Vancouver, Canada, this seemed like a good stop for us as my husband didn't want to make the full drive and I really dislike arriving at a hotel at 10 pm or later. So I found this Candlewood Suites Burlington on my hotels.com app and decided to book a night to stay here. This hotel was surprisingly very affordable for a Saturday evening with only being $129 (prior to tax) and offers quite a spacious room with a king size bed. The pet fee was only $20 and we were very happy to have found out that they offer complementary dryer and washer for use (you just have to use your own detergent and dryer sheets). This was very helpful, as we ended up doing a load in the washer and then divided our load into 2 dryers (since no one was using them and it is faster to dry jeans this way from your other clothes). There are 3 washers to use and 4 dryers available. We checked in around 6:15 pm by a friendly employee. She gave us our keys and then we unloaded our car (they have luggage dollies at the front) and headed to our room, which was on the first floor. We had a kitchen and a full size fridge and microwave in our room, a fairly good size bathroom with plenty of counter space (I always dislike when bathrooms have so little counter space), Dove brand bath products, Dove soap bar, TV and desk that I was able to set up my laptop. The WiFi was fast and very happy that it never dropped while I was taking a test to earn a certification in my profession (I only had one attempt and so I was little nervous wondering if I would get dropped but I never did. Oh and I did pass for anyone that is wondering). Although there is no breakfast provided, you do have a kitchen in your room that you can use, which we did. So that wasn't a problem for us. Now one thing I do want to mention is that the walls between rooms are thin, as I heard neighbors around us. Also there is a train that seems to run at all hours of the day and evening, as I heard them throughout the evening. I am a pretty light sleeper so I didn't sleep that well but my husband (who is a heaver sleeper) was just fine. I have stayed at a bed and breakfast in Texas where there was a train nearby and that train was incredibly loud. This train wasn't nearly as loud but do want to mention this for those that may find this to be a problem. Because of the train and the thin walls, I am a bit indifferent and not sure if I would stay here again. But to us, there does seem to be more pros than cons. Overall, I would still rate this hotel 4 stars.

The room was moderately comfortable and we appreciated having a laundry facility. On the downside, there were two washing machines but one wasn't working. We wish the little convenient shop near the lobby was better stocked with some fresh food items. The pet area is not well monitored and several guests did not pick up after their pet. Lastly the parking spots are too narrow.

Mount Vernon has a historic downtown and a riverfront walkway that is quite charming. However the…read morestrip of hotels alongside the I-5 highway epitomize the neglect and decay of the U.S.'s brutalist capitalist economy. This hotel easily ranks among the worst "quick overnight stays" on a road trip I have had the misfortune to make. The property is tacky and visibly degenerating. It feels like an insult to the human spirit itself, graceless, cheap, and rectilinear, more "prison industrial complex" than "hospitality industry". When I checked in, I was given a room on the third floor along the exposed balcony, but it had not yet been turned over (cleaned and swept) for the next guest. I returned to the front desk by way of the single elevator and they gave me an available room which turned out to be a cubby hole tucked in between the entry bay and the main dormitory style construction...a small space which squeezed by as a "room". You could barely fit an adult between the bed and the chest of drawers. However, an electrical outlet was functioning and there was a TV. The lingering smell of perfumed bleach cleaner bodes badly for my endocrine system but is a noticeable effort to refresh rooms between guests. I tried to crack open the sliding window for fresh air but the roar of the just-adjacent highway was akin to an airport runway. The indoor air quality was off putting. Unfortunately the threadbare sheets and acrylic / rayon duvet cover didn't inspire my confidence either and I brought in my own sheet set in and re-made the bed to the best of my ability. The bathroom it must be said was well-cleaned. I cannot fault the management for doing their best to maintain a standard of sanitation and hygiene inside the old and unimaginative box-like construction. Breakfast was what I imagine is the caliber of a detention center in Mississippi, Texas, or Louisiana. Even the bananas and oranges were wilted and had seen better days.

As you go from the lobby to the hallway, you'll notice that they let some four year olds loose with paint brushes, thinking that maybe a few quarts of new paint means "remodel"... except no one told the painter about this invention called masking tape! The carpet was stained and worn. As we entered our room, there was stains on the floor. There's a jacuzzi tub in the main room. Weird. There was a bobby pin on the side of the tub, a prior guests key ring, the mirror was dirty, there was a bunch of hair on the carpet, a urine stain on the wall, the bathroom vanity light was crooked and tarnished, with mis-matched light bulbs. There was some broken plastic screwed to the shower wall where there used to be a soap and conditioner dispenser. The wood furniture was pretty chipped up with paint drips on several pieces. There was two holes in the ceiling, looked like bullet holes. There's a floor lamp in one corner, it doesn't have a light switch. There is a non working switch in the cord, but to turn the light off you have to unplug it. There were two can lights above the jacuzzi tub, one was burnt out. They had extra pillows in the closet, but there were no pillow cases on them. There was only one tiny waste paper basket for the entire room, so no trash can in the bathroom. There's a community center next door, and they were blasting DJ music until midnight. Kids from the community center were loitering outside in the parking lot yelling and making a bunch of noise. A walk around the outside of the building and there's broken rain gutters, dirty entry ways, and sticking doors. Upon showing the desk the hair ball we picked up off the floor which should have been vacuumed, and the key ring, told them about the bobby pin on the side of the tub, and showed them a photo of the urine stain, I was told there wasn't any other rooms to move us to because we have a dog. so I requested the room be re-cleaned before our second night stay. When we got back, the urine stain was still there, and so was the bobby pin. There comes a point where a hotel needs to be closed and remodeled top to bottom, or turned into a homeless shelter. This hotel is in that category.
