Awful experience. Horrible management, crap standard of living for exorbitant price. I would look literally anywhere else.

I usually don't write reviews but I figured I would at least add some perspective to some of the things I, friends, neighbors, and roommates have experienced over the years living in a Winkler property. First of all, maintenance is hardly on top of things. They will "fix" things in the most half-assed way that often leads to even bigger, more complicated issues later down in your lease period. In some cases, resulting in actual damage done to your personal property. Reaching out to management about concerns is a hit or miss. If the issue is too complex, or doesn't seem "worth their time", they will just tell you what you want to hear, rather than actually solving any issues. The building I and my roommates live at have a major support beam that is crumpling, cracking, and chipping apart, I've brought this up multiple times and nothing gets done about it, which is concerning knowing it's a code violation. I've never seen an organization care so little in properly maintaining their buildings, as improper structural integrity is something a lot of people I know specifically seem to have an issue with at other properties. Secondly, and as stated in numerous reviews already, housekeeping is a huge let down. Countless times where housekeeping has left and there has been ZERO change in the cleanliness of the apartment. When they do end up cleaning, I, and others have noticed them use my personal cleaning supplies even though this service is included in my rent. You can try to opt-out of housekeeping but it doesn't make a difference. Your privacy will be invaded on a regular basis in ANY Winkler property, and for no actual benefit. Multiple times they've walked in on us during vulnerable times, without ever knocking or announcing themselves prior. My roommates have been outright disgusted by it along with some of my neighbors given their experiences too. Overall, leasing with Winkler has been an uphill battle, and I've noticed it's been increasingly difficult to find a lease transfer because these issues seem to be pretty well known within the Boone community in general. I recommend others like Holton or BHCR. Yes, they aren't perfect either, but honestly I'd rather deal with a lot of their "issues" than what I, and others I know have dealt with being a part of this organization specifically. Rent prices are NOT justified. You have been warned. read more

Bad service, Bad prices, Bad communication. If you plan to apply through the Winkler organization be warned. We applied early months in advance and then got offered windowless units that were far off from where we wanted to be for not even a discounted or reasonable price. Prior to being told our options, they never even let us check our application statuses. We also waited months to hear back and now we were left to scramble to find new living accommodations. We did try our best to make things work out, but once they gave us no other options we were left feeling hopeless. Do yourself a favor and apply somewhere else so at least you can avoid the stress. read more

The winkler organization has been nothing but great to me for my past 3 (going on 4) years of residence with them. They are fair and always there to help. Particularly I want to give Tiffany Leonard a shoutout for being truly the MVP. My car was wrongly booted and Tiffany helped me get in touch with the parking agency and get the boot removed for free. I have been dealing with so much lately and I will not forget how far this act of kindness went with me! Thank you so much. read more

My daughter lived in Winkler properties for 3 years. Tiffany and the office staff were so kind and helpful. They were very easy to work with when an issue or concern ever arose. Tiffany was quick to help with the matter. The maintenance was well-handled and responsive to issues. My daughter always felt safe at the properties. Winkler is a fair and well-run apartment management group, and we felt taken care of for the years she rented with them. I would highly recommend renting with the Winkler Organization. read more

I've been a tenant with the Winkler Organization for about 2 years, at the 494 lofts, and I recently moved into The Heights on Green Street, for a change of pace, and already loving it just as much, if not more, than the Lofts! I glance at some of the other reviews, and I see ones that are 1, 2, and 3 star reviews? I don't understand how, honestly. Winkler is the best property management company I've come across so far. All of the properties of theirs that I've been exposed to have been top-quality, and well-maintained. I've lived in a couple so far, visited friends in others -- they have properties all over Boone, and so far, from what I've seen, all of the properties are among the best apartments to live in, in Boone. Maintenance is super responsive -- literally the best maintenance I've seen. They've almost always handled my requests within a couple days, and if they were in a position where they couldn't, then I've gotten a call from Judah (the maintenance manager), letting me know what's up. Any time that I've reached out to either Tiffany or Molly, they've been absolutely wonderful, as well! I swear I have probably bugged them with random questions at least once a month or every other month, and every single time, they've been nothing but pleasant, and quick to respond! One other thing that I enjoy is that the Winkler Organization has standards, and they hold not only their tenants to those standards, but themselves as well. Their properties are top-notch, and they do a great job of managing expectations in keeping it that way, but also are willing to work with you in their part of maintaining the property. I've met too many people who'll move into a place, wreck it, and then get pissy that they didn't get their full deposit back...it's quite ridiculous. There are many slum-lord-level property managers and landlords in Boone, that'll prey on the student population. No matter what, out-of-town students need a place to lay their head at night, and they know that. Winkler isn't one of em. You'll be beyond comfortable staying in any of their properties, no matter what brings you to Boone. read more

This company is just a giant money pit. All of my things in my apartment molded with them and when I complained about mold on the walls they just sent someone to wipe it off of the wall and did not resolve the problem. I got a dehumidifier and there was still mold growing all over the walls in the apartment. While living there for 3 years I was constantly sick and ended up getting pneumonia. I did a mold test kit on the apartment before I moved out and found black mold was growing in my apartment. These apartments are built super cheap and priced ridiculously expensive. Not to mention they increase the prices of rent by $30 every year. SAVE YOUR TIME AND DO NOT RENT WITH THIS COMPANY. read more

Worst rental properties in Boone. Would give zero if I could. Extremely rude and unavailable staff. Very expensive, low quality, virtually no amenities. They do predatory towing at their properties. read more

Not too impressed by the apartments where my son lives from out of state. Primarily the cleaning service perk is a sham as they only "clean" once every 5 weeks. My son and his mates can't even tell anyone was there to clean, so this should not be listed as a apartment feature. read more

This is not my first time reviewing Winkler and probably won't be my last since this is my 3rd year living with them and they are constantly disappointing. I have been without air conditioning in my ridiculously small and overpriced apartment since I moved back in. I can't tell you how many times I've called but since they only care about money and not the well-being of their tenants, my thermostat has stayed at 80 degrees in this summer heat and humidity (resulting in my bedding, carpet, and clothes to become wet and moldy-- which I will probably be charged for). One of, if not the worst rental company in Boone. The rent is grossly overpriced and the apartments are hardly worth the price. Overage fees are outrageous. Apartments and parking lots are poorly organized and poorly maintained. The winkler organization is generally just out to get as much of your money as they possibly can. read more

I have been the parent of a tenant of this group and I think they are great to work with. Tiffany is very responsive and always calls back in a timely manner. If you have problems with electronic payments or anything at all (like a parking pass) you can call her and she will help you. I have thoroughly enjoyed my association with Winkler for the past two years and hope to continue for at least two more. read more

Worst customer service I have ever received. Impossible to get ahold of. No accountability for any of their mistakes. Multiple run ins with the processing of their pathetic payment system. Called me constantly 2 months after moving out to fix a problem they created 3 months prior. read more

By far the most unprofessional rental organization in Boone. The winkler organization is rude, obxnoxious, and arrogant. They treat tenants like second rate citizens and literally only care about your money. Do not expect your security deposit back. Thanks to the new horribly ugly building they just erected (which will not be finished in time), they are having to come up with reasons to keep all of their current tenants security deposits to pay to put up those tenants in hotels until their 3 story single-wide looking building is complete. I mean really, brick for the 1st story and mobile home siding for the rest? Come on, Winkler, you can do much better. read more

First of all, Winkler is absolutely a rip off. Rent is CRAZY my roommates and I combined spend more on rent then my mom does on her mortgage. Within the first two months of living there my neighbors had a 3 foot hole in their ceiling from water damage. It collapsed and insulation went everywhere and it took Winkler A WEEK to get to patching the hole and clean everything up. Also, despite their massive profits, NONE of their 22 properties have on site recycling besides the ones built after 2007 (because there's a town mandate). It is almost impossible to get in contact with them if its not "leasing season" and my complex has been under constant construction since I moved in. My friend lived in the same apartment complex last year and there was also constant construction. A MONTH ago, they said "this week we will be replacing all windows in the unit" One of my roommates windows could literally be tapped out of its frame ( obviously she can't use it and we are on the third floor its hot!!) and the window in the living room doesn't even stay open by itself. Avoid this ruthless, lazy company at all costs. read more
