It's a Winn-Winn, they say! Winn-Dixie has truly upgraded their game! Taking the spot of the old Lucky's, Winn-Dixie has rolled back into town and they are GLOWING!! I'll be honest, I'm usually a Publix, Trader Joe's or Ward's kinda gal, but this Winn-Dixie has made me into a renewed fan. It's all bright and shiny now because it's new, and the overall new layout and vibe has definitely set the pace for the future! The open floor plan really makes me feel comfortable, especially in a pandemic, as I can move around and really explore the aisles without bumping into someone! With organized aisles, bright lights and enough friendly faces that don't leave you waiting in long lines, Winn-Dixie is starting off on a good note! My favorite part of the store? The Taproom of course!! I was spoiled with Lucky's option to sip and shop, and I was SO excited to be greeted by the glowing lights of the bar! With $3-$5 options for Wine, Draft Beer, coffee and more, you can't go wrong! Shoot, skip the groceries sometimes and just have a beer in my honor! ;-) read more

One of my favorite grocery stores. The deals are insane. I highly recommend getting the Winn-Dixie app. The variety of things that are on sale or even BOGO is the main reason I come here. Sometimes chicken breasts are BOGO as well as bagels, bread, even sweets sometimes. Two weeks ago, I even got the huge bags of pizza rolls BOGO. Helps a lot when you're a struggling college kid. While I do agree that sometimes the produce isn't super fresh or stocked, it's rare that it occurs. I also don't typically shop for produce here since it CAN be a bit pricey. I'm not from the state, so we don't have these stores, but I was surprised to see a bar and hot food towards the back of the establishment. It's always clean and the people working there seem to be nice. They play a lot of rock music, which I like. It's a cool vibe. Overall though, this specific Winn-Dixie is a personal favorite. This new Winn Dixie is a welcome addition to Gainesville, and in my opinion will be great competition to Publix and other supermarkets. I know that Winn Dixie locations have struggled in the past, and I've certainly seen a "spectrum of quality" from Winn Dixie's in the Gainesville, Jacksonville, and South Florida cities. This Winn Dixie is unique in that it has a very robust dining area, and a little bar! They also had music playing in this area, so it could be a great spot to each lunch or dinner before shopping. You can literally sit down, eat a full meal here from the hot bar area, deli, or order sushi. Their sushi and sashimi is made fresh, right in front of the customer and there are premade and made to order options. The customer service was also great from my interactions with employees. The deals, and pricing is also very competitive. I think this is a great example of what Winn Dixie supermarkets should strive to be. I know that there are different nuances of each store. I've seen a Winn Dixie in South, FL which had one of the largest chicken bars including a variety of sauces, and a mini Chinese food market area. While Winn Dixie is a distance away from where I live ( I live right across from a Publix), whenever I am on this side of the town I'll be very tempted to stop in and take a peek at the offers. read more

A little pricey but the location is close by. Went in for ground beef and none were on the shelf. I was told that the cooling mechanism was broken so they had to keep the meat stored in the back. The guy retrieved what I needed quickly. I went to self checkout with cash, as I didn't see any open lanes. Self checkout was card only. Mary noticed my confusion trying to put cash into a cashless machine and without hesitation walked over and checked me out. read more

My first review for 2021, yayy!! This is literally the largest and nicest Winn-Dixie I have ever been in. Period. If this is Winn-Dixie's way of showing that they can and will go toe to toe with Publix, this is the way to do it. Having taken over Lucky's location, you can really feel that upscale Lucky's vibe in this store. Bright and spacious, they have everything you are looking for and more! Want to have a drink and a bar experience at a grocery store, come on in! I really hope Winn-Dixie adopts this store format in locations where they want to make a statement and establish a flagship store. This is a winning combo and a direction that can help them really stand out in an ever more competitive grocery store arena. Winn-Dixie, do me proud and show me your full potential! read more

This is an amazing concept store, now opened in the old Lucky's Market location. They offer a tap room, fresh sushi, a fantastic selection of meat, cheese, and produce. The store is well staffed and very clean. Winn-Dixie also has the best prices in town! I'm a fan! read more

Today was the first time visiting the new Winn-Dixie here in Gainesville. It has taken the place of the Lucky's that we had on 13th, and uses pretty much the same layout as that store did. A couple of things were ripped out and moved around, but for the most part things are in the same places. The meat section is the same size as it was with Lucky's, which is surprising to me given that Winn-Dixie's slogan is "The Beef People". I know the other store in town has a much larger meat department. Gone are the various "health-nut" type foods, instead the aisles are stocked with what you would expect in a generic grocery store. The beer and wine section is also no longer as eclectic, and I saw a lot of generic stuff in there. Half of that area is also taken up by the standard soda aisle, etc. They did keep the in-store bar, and the carts all have cup holders, so you can still go to the store, grab a cart, order a beer, and do some leisurely shopping while drinking a cool one. They also have short half-carts the way Lucky's did, which I love. They used to have those carts at the other store in town, but those have disappeared, sadly. There were employees all over the place stocking the shelves... the store has just opened, and is getting hit hard by people checking out the new store. It will be interesting to see what the store is like in a couple of months once the "newness" of the place is gone from memory. I will say that they have done a wonderful job in refurbishing the place, with all new floors. There were a couple of things that ticked my not so good meter though... The number of check-out lanes has been reduced, and in the place of two of them they have installed four self-checkout lanes. That isn't the bad thing... the problem is that those checkout lanes are set up so that you cannot remove any items from the bagging area until you are complete, otherwise the system will not let you check out any other items. This is a pain in the ass if you have a larger number of items in the cart. I was using a small cart, but at a certain point it made sense to clear some items that were bagged back into the cart. No dice. In addition, the machines do not automatically start cashing you out when you insert your card at the end... you have to tell it that you are done, tell it to use the credit card machine, then tell the credit card machine that the total is correct. My suggestion? Go look at how Walmart of all places does this... their system WORKS! The other nit-pick I have is that they repainted the parking lot, and one of the things they did in doing that was to eliminate the motorcycle parking spots. This is Gainesville... we have a lot of motorcycles and an even larger number of scooters in town, and providing them with separate parking areas is pretty much necessary in larger locations like this one. You can even see where they used to be... now just covered with lines saying no parking at all. The need for a new store in this area was high, and Winn-Dixie managed to identify that need. Sadly, they apparently did not really look at the town and what its residents are composed of. read more

I like Winn Dixie - love shopping there, BUT, what campaign are you on with playing the most inappropriate, grating and talentless music in the bakery/bar area? I can barely tolerate it (and I was a punk rocker in my earlier year) but that audible affront is nasty: I'm embarrassed for you for all the decent customers shopping there, and shocked that management would let their employees blast such distasteful and talentless music. I would never take my child or mother to shop at this place and I'm having to seriously consider whether it's worth my being offended by such nasty, trashy and pathetic noise selection, or just drive up the road a half mile to the green competitor. They at least know how to train their employees to serve the customer, to respect their workplace, and not to treat their shop like it's a beatoff box in the red light district. I was in this store (1459 NW 23rd Ave, Gainesville, FL 32605) about a week ago and the person behind the counter where the hot food is sold was not wearing any gloves or a mask. They were putting the leftover food in containers to be sold in bulk at the end of the day and it was touching their hands as he was putting it in the container. The worker did not care. He was just shoving it into the container to be sold. During this very uncertain time you would think they would be more careful and SANITARY . read more

I have purchased meat here three times that was bad the moment I got it home. I bought turkey breast tenderloins for thanksgiving that were rotten when I opened them on thanksgiving day even though I purchased them TWO days before and they were in the back part of my fridge that normally freezes things. I bought bacon that was bad when I opened it and then a beef rib roast that had mold on it when I got it out of the package. The beef I bought the day before! I have also purchased a couple produce items that I opened the day I got home and rotten inside. Turn down your coolers and throw out bad stuff!! I won't be shopping here again. read more
