I decided to pop in on a whim and see what they had. I noticed a sign on the door that said they had a "work dog" inside, which immediately made me joyous. I was even happier that she (I think her name was Jazz!), was the sweetest, most calm dog ever and hung out with me while I shopped. The staff member (who I believe was the owner), was great at keeping her close by, but I made it clear that I welcomed her furry little presence! I was asked right away if I needed help and was led to their fantastic selection of cuff links. Thy source them out of the UK and I believe Texas. Their selection is plentiful - classy and quirky and tailored to all personality types. They have sports one and occupations and I ended up selecting an awesome pair of silver Lego pieces. I mentioned my boyfriend was an MMA trainer and he offered to order in some boxing glove cuff links for us - wonderful customer service! I also picked up a gorgeous Nautica tie (at half off!) and some super cool dinosaur socks for the birthday boy. They have an amazing selection of men's grooming products including beard grooming supplies, European razors and a whole wall of other goodies. They also carry a ton of fun and colourful socks and an insane amount of men's underwear (the second staff member is your go to guy for men's underwear. He admits to owning hundreds of pairs!). They also sell shirts and other accessories. If you're on the hunt for a guy who loves quality and individual gifts, stop by. The products were great but the staff were even better. Can't wait for an excuse to return!

Then one day one of my friends told me they also sell clothes. I said "yeah, like riding breeches that make you look like you're wearing a diaper? No thank you." She said "no, like regular clothes." Being the shopper that I am, I had to check it out. My friend was right, they do have regular clothes. Well, they are more "outdoor adventure/active lifestyle" kind of clothes. Like what you would find at Sail, Mountain Equipment Co-Op and Bushtakah. They have a huge selection of Royal Robbins and they carry my favourite brand of this kind of clothing, Toad & Co. (formerly called Horny Toad - and I'm so glad they changed the name because I used to get a lot of funny looks when I asked stores if they carry Horny Toad). Anyway, prices are on par with other stores that sell this kind of clothing. They do have a clearance section at the back of the store where items are marked down and prices can be quite low. If you need to use the fitting room and staff aren't around, there's an old school bell on the wall that you ring. It's pretty cool! I can't speak about any of their equestrian supplies because I don't know anything about such things, but there's a huge selection. Staff are always friendly and nice. The parking lot is unpaved and bumpy with potholes everywhere, so be careful!

I'm very happy to see an Urban Outfitters arrive in Ottawa. I dropped in to see what t-shirts they…read morehave available. My rating isn't based on the store but more against other Urban Outfitters I've been to. From the outside the space looks huge but that's not the case when you walk in. The store seems very cramped and small. The store doesn't seem like it's laid out well from when you first walk in and it feels that way when walking around the store. I checked out some of the apartment/housing things and they definitely have some cool items but there just doesn't seem as much as other stores. Some of the other stores have lots of pieces that you can purchase. I went upstairs to check out some of the clothing as the last time I was at UO in Montreal there were some t-shirts I forgot to pick up. When I went to check if they were here they didn't have them but the MTL store seemed to have all the shirts this one had and more. The staff wasn't to friendly the day I went. One of the staff said hi and I said hi back and smiled and when I went to ask a question they just took off. I'll be back for sure but the store definitely doesn't have the charm that the other UO's I've been to...with the exception of the change room upstairs. That was pretty cool.

So I'm conflicted by Urban Outfitters. On one hand it's crass commercialism at its worst. Urban…read moreOutfitters appear to use controversy to sell their stuff and apparently don't know, or worse, don't care that they try to profit off of other cultures, mental health, eating disorders, and general tragedy. They jump on trends and ride it for all it's worth - but then again, which companies don't? However, not a lot of people care about my perspective and that's cool. Objectively, Urban Outfitters is a good store and deserves a 4/5 rating. The store is spacious, well-maintained, and well stocked. The store is in a good location that is easily accessed by car, transit, or walking/biking. Urban Outfitters carry a wide range of items from clothing, clothing accessories, iPhone accessories, vinyl, and fun books. The items they do carry are of decent to good quality, a bit overpriced for some items, but you can't deny the quality. The staff are kind and helpful. Which is a nice surprise. I've been to the Urban Outfitters in Toronto and you'd think they are working in a high-end designer store the way they treat you. So it's cool that the staff here are respectful and helpful. So while I am conflicted by Urban Outfitters, a good store is a good store.
