The prices were, of course, a little higher due to the La Conner/tourist factor, but the quality of the items was high as well.

Not accessible by ferry, the island relies on the store to provide much-needed essentials (like craft beer on draft) to locals and tourists. And while their grocery selection is sparse, and not the cheapest game in town, it is - in fact - the ONLY game in town. So if you forgot eggs while you were on the mainland doing your monthly shopping, you're in luck! The store also hosts weekly events so it's worth checking out while you're there. Last summer they had a BBQ every Friday and the burgers were delish. This is definitely a must-stop when you're on B.I.

As you may know, a meal is NOT complete without dessert!! This "Mom and Pop" convenience store is nicer than most chain convenience stores that I have frequented. Harold's Corner Market was nice and clean inside. The merchandise was fully stocked and well-organized. Most importantly, the customer service was welcoming and courteous. After browsing, we found some ice cream bars to try. They seemed to be a locally made brand named Whidbey Island. Those ice cream bars were delicious!! Prices were reasonable too. Actually while browsing the store, it seemed that all the merchandise was fairly priced (even the gasoline). Even though they are located right next to the highway....I did not get the sense that prices would be considered "highway robbery". If I lived in this area, I'd be a regular for sure.

The nutcracker collection is outstanding, and the hand painted ornaments that Barbara customizes are truly beautiful. We spent quite a bit of time talking to Barbara about the history of her shop and about her collections. There is a separate room devoted to imported European candy and treats, and Barbara can tell you all about them, too. It was a delightful visit, and Barbara was a warm welcoming hostess. This is not a "kid-and-candy" shop. This is a place for serious lovers of Christmas collectibles (and at very reasonable prices). You will be glad you stopped here.
