I had such a rude experience with the woman who answers the phone at business. I know they do good work, but something as simple as seeing if I could make an appointment to have my car checked out regarding a check engine light was made into such an ordeal. All I was asking was for it to be looked at to see what could be figure out during the day and that I would need to pick it up that night for work, but the woman insisted that SHE would not have time to look at it, and that I should pick a day when I can leave it overnight. I'm sorry, but my work schedule does not revolve around when this woman says she can look at my car, and I do not want her looking at my car or doing anything to my car. I bring it there for Chris and his knowledgeable staff to look at. But I guess this woman isn't interested in Chris getting my business. This woman is the absolute worst to deal with. read more

I'm writing this review to warn people about this auto repair shop. We took our older Honda CRV in for an estimate on what we knew was a leak in a metal hose that runs from the radiator. Once in the shop, the mechanic started checking the car and said not only was that pipe leaking but there was also a leak in the radiator as well. Then started rattling off a few other things, the brakes, battery, and those 2 things my husband just changed a year ago or so. He charged my husband $150 for a diagnostic fee and was told it would be approx. a $1,500 job. My husband called the next morning and was told it's now $2,200 and they indicated there was only 1 metal hose he needed in the whole State?? We decided to get a second opinion and went back to our mechanic in Monmouth County we had used for years although out of the way. Turns out he was able to get the part that morning and no, that wasn't the only hose in the State. Not only that, but he replaced the hose, gaskets and did not see a leak in the radiator, all for $998!! Be warned people, this place is a ripoff and is basically scamming people. Karma read more

I had some tremendously amazing emergency service done at Winter yesterday. My hybrid SUV broke down on the New Jersey Turnpike and the gas station on the turnpike nearby did not have a mechanic! I was able to limp my car over to Winter and Chris and Lisa were amazing! There was another mechanic who helped but I didn't catch his name. I was driving on my own with two kids in the car, 3 1/2 hours from home. They went above and beyond, when the part wasn't available they did a smart thorough fix with JP weld that got me safely home and may possibly last as a forever fix. When you break down on the highway it's easy to expect the worst, but here you will find very skilled, fair service from some of the most kind, conscientious people ever. read more

My son was traveling back to school via NJ Turnpike when his car broke down. Being 3 1/2 hours away and darkness looming, my stress levels were pretty high. I found Winter Auto Repair was close by so I called to see if they could get him in to repair the car ASAP. Lisa immediately sprang into action as if my son was her own stranded relative. The car arrived to the shop 45 minutes before they closed, at which time Lisa and the owner immediately got on assessing the issue and providing an estimate. My son booked a room at a nearby hotel(Lisa was a great help here too as we are not from the area) and Winter had him back on the road by noon the next day. I can't say enough how thankful I was to find a caring and fair auto repair shop that took care of the situation and made all of us feel at ease. I thought this kind of service died off in the 60's. I reserved a trailer. Went to pick it up but I did not have the receiver and ball, nor the 4 prong plug for the lights. I needed the 3 items at a $60 cost at Walmart. The Girl at the service desk called Chris Winter and he stopped at Walmart purchased the items and rented them to me, at a reasonable rate. And I was on my way. I moved here recently from out of state where I had a transmission and clutch replaced approx. 18 months ago by the dealer. I was looking for a place to work on my car for routine maintenance. Per the reviews and the location nearby, I went there to get a Saturday appointment. MY MISTAKE. I was told by Lisa they don't have Saturdays and they open at 9AM during the week. I mentioned that maybe you should correct this online because it says Saturdays. Finally made an appointment on a weekday for 'Service 1' on my car. It is oil change and filter, changing all filters and checking other things such as brakes. I was asked how long ago my work was done again. Chris showed me that oil is all over the underside of the front of my car. 4 bolts are missing from the oil pan from when I had the service done by the dealer, oil could be backing up into the trans and clutch and destroying them. He could repair the issue but would need to REMOVE the transmission. I indicated that I would bring it to the dealer here since is under warranty. THEY OFFERED TWICE to write up all of the issues they found and email it to me. I said great because I don't know all of the issues and the dealer is going to give me a hard time. I actually said this to Lisa. OUT LOUD. I didn't get it. I called. She said they didn't do it yet since she was off Monday and I would have it by Friday. Never got it still. Left a nasty voicemail over the weekend because THEY OFFERED I DID NOT ASK and left me in the lurch so I have no backup with the dealer. I drop by Winter today after work and ask for a copy of the email sent. Lisa says (smartass) you mean the one that I sent twice? I ignore that comment. She is claiming she sent it before I called her to advise I had not received and she was out. Going on & on about something is wrong with my email. I let her know I checked Friday, Saturday Sunday Monday and checked the spam folder. Finally again, may I have a copy? Then she had the balls to ask me why am I so angry! I get the copy and it says nothing close to what he said to me. Here is what is written , " As per our conversation about your car, I have checked with Mitchell and All Data about the oil leak in your car. As you are aware your car has a severe oil leak that appears to be coming from the oil pan. I showed this to you while you were in our shop for service. I also showed you that we need to remove the lower transmission bolts to remove the oil pan. As per Mitchell and All Data, those bolts do need to be removed but the transmission does not need to be removed." That is it. Nothing about the harm to the trans and clutch. Nothing about it missing 4 bolts. Nothing to back me up and present to the dealer. So guess what the dealer said today? They want me to pay for the oil pan issue and they will contact the original dealer to see if they will pick up the cost of the missing bolts. And on the service that I paid $600 for (more than the dealer charges), although they pulled up the list of things to do, a bunch of it was not done The photo shown here makes me laugh and I guess I should not be surprised. There's a hard lesson to be learned by choosing the wrong mechanic, which I have over and over. After getting taken dollar after dollar, I chose Winter Auto Repair. My van needed quite a bit of work, but the team at Winter was up for the challenge. The service was responsive, friendly and EXACTING. The price was communicated to me quickly before any work was done. After I agreed, Chris Winter and his team did a fantastic job to go the extra mile to make me happy. It goes to show that you can't skimp on good service. Although Winter Auto may be slightly higher than the rest, the work was done quickly and efficiently. When I picked up the car, I was greeted with friendly staff and quick checkout. Needless to say, Winter Auto went the extra mile and even did a few odds and ends (that I wasn't charged for) that needed to be done. The van rides perfectly and the work is guaranteed. an absolute joke. FOR 3 WEEKS, Chirs, the owner kept my truck, telling me he could not start it and couldnt figure out what was wrong with it. each time i said i would find someone else, he would ask for a few more days. for the last 2 weeks he lead me on, telling me "he has a speacialist coming to look at it, but he hasnt been around because his job involves traveling around to work on trucks" never once did he pick up the phone and tell me there was no progress, and id have to wait days to hear back since everytime i called he was "busy" or "unavailable". when i finally said im sending a tow truck, his "specialist" finally arrived back in new jersey, and told me he would be working on my truck first thing the next morning if i would leave it.. like a moron - i said ok. i showed up unannounced the next morning 10 minutes afer he opened, to find that my truck wasnt even in his shop, and it seemed that 2 weeks of the truck not being able to start was resolved within 10 minutes afer he opened. the truck was at the mechanics shop next door being diagnosed which made me suspicious. i got a call from him 2 hours later, telling me that he recomended i change all 8 fuel injectors on my truck, instead of the 2 that tested bad - and since " it was IMPOSSIBLE to buy rebuilt ones, cause they CANT be rebuilt, i would have no choice but to buy new one at a cost of $486.00 EACH. he quoted the job at $4,500.00 for all 8 , and $1,500 just to replace 2. he also said i needed an altenator and he would change it for close to $400.. i told him a tow truck would be coming to pick up my truck and it was being brought somewhere else.. when i went to leave money for the tow truck with the shop that actually had my truck - Chirs had told the other shop to bill me for $100, diagnostic fee, which i never was asked about or gave any consent to. when i questioned what the bill was for, cause i didnt even bring my truck to them in the first place - they told me " CHRIS ASKED US THIS MORNING TO LOOK AT THE TRUCK AND TO GIVE IT A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK, AND THAT HE WOULD PAY US LATER. when i asked if anyone there was the "traveling specialist" i had been waiting on for 2 weeks - they said they had no idea what i was talking about. they had not once been asked to look at the truck until that morning, and that they got it started and drove it over and had it all checked out an hour after he asked. they went onto say they had offered him help weeks ago, and he continued to refuse it. i , to put it lightly, flipped out in the office telling them that if CHRIS FROM WINTER AUTO REAPIR AGREED TO PAY YOU, THEN YOU BETTER GO ASK CHRIS FROM WINTER AUTO FOR THE MONEY. i explained (or yelled) at how CHRIS FROM WINTER AUTO REPAIR - kept my truck for THREE WEEKS, and had done ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to it. I PAID $70, to have it towed there , and incurred 2 weeks of rental car payments while CHRIS FROM WINTER AUTO, kept telling me how hes was working on it, it was giving him trouble, now it doesnt even start anymore, and to just GIVE HIM A FEW MORE DAYS. HS "SPECIALIST" was a complete and outight lie to buy him more time, and in 2 hours the mecanic next door accomplished more than he did in 3 weeks. needless to say - the other mechanic waved the $100 because they had no knowledge this had happened, and was embarassed that CHRIS had put them in the middle of all this, AND THAT UNFORTUNATELY IT HAD NOT BEEN THE FIRST TIME HE DID THIS. 15 MINUTES afer i left - the owner of the shop that had my truck, CALLED ME TO PERSONALLY APPOLOGIZE FOR THIS ISSUE, AND EXPLAINED that they were EMBARRASSED to have an neighboring mechanic like CHRIS because this has happed TOO MANY TIMES, AND THEY WOULD BE HAVING A TALK WITH HIM SHORTLY.. he said waving the $100 fee was least they could do for the situation they had been unknowingly thrown into, and asked that i please NOT ASSOCIATE THEM WITH CHRIS OR WINTER AUTO IN ANY WAY.. HE ALSO WENT ONTO SAY THAT THEY HAVE A STRICT POLICY OF 100% HONESTLY WITH THEIR CUSTOMERS, And AGAIN said that its becoming a real problem working next to WINTER AUTO. if you live in that area and want a mechanic that isnt a complete liar - please go one door down to CHAMPION OR SUPERIOR AUTO.( I cant remember the name) AND TO FURTHER PROVE THIS POINT - I JUST GOT THE ESTIMATE FROM THE SHOP THAT NOW HAS MY TRUCK - 2 INJECTORS - $194 EACH, ALTENATOR IS FINE, AS WELL AS ALL REMAINING INJECTORS. . TOTAL ESTIMATE WITH TAX AND LABOR - $685 .. instead of $1500 for that same job from WINTER AUTO REPAIR, or the $5,000 i was recomended to. THE WORST PART ABOUT THIS ORDEAL WAS THE LIES AND WAITING. GOING 3 WEEKS WITHOUT MY ONLY FORM OF TRASPORTATION , AND THE STRESS OF BEING TOLD ABOUT HOW THE TRUCK I WANTED FIXED "cant even start now" . and then on top of it all - having the person that accpeted my truck in the first place try to stick me with a bill he agreed to pay someone else.
