Many road trippers and tourist traps are here. There are about 20-30 parking spots near the East side of the bridge. There is an info board and a trailhead at the parking lot. The trail meanders below the road bridge to the Quechee Gorge. This summer (9/25) has been quite dry, so not big cascades but better views into the Gorge can be had. There's a big construction going ON the bridge so there was some traffic (yup). The construction probably will be completed before the winter. PSA - The best vista to this Gorge is actually from the bridge which is a very short walk from the parking lot.

Maple Hill offers an in-expensive and convenient camping experience for those looking to go hiking or sight seeing in the Bristol/Waterbury area. The "downtown" of Bristol is a short drive away if you need to buy supplies or want a nice evening out for dinner and ice cream. They have both wooded and field sites you can get a nice spot right on the river. There is also a bathhouse with running water, showers, and flush toilets. I have never been so pleased with an experience of true human compassion and the people running this campground are what all humans should achieve to be. I know this review may be somewhat cryptic but might I just add: Make sure that you remember that the road for the campground is located across the street from the white house and not to find yourself going down a rocky dirt road in the dark, in a rainstorm, in the fog....Things may not end up well for you haha. Anyways, Martha is the best and thank God for AAA. Check in and registration is at the white house and campsites run about 25/night for non electric sites.

The field sites are huge, and open... they don't offer the privacy but would be a fantastic place camp with a group and stargaze. Maybe the only time I have used a campground bathroom and not had to avoid the hordes of harvestmen/daddylong-legs. And the bathroom lights are solar powered! Super nice owner, low rates, very clean grounds. It's close to some neat swimming holes, hiking and mountain biking trails, as well.

A gate code is needed to access the campground. We rented a cabin here. There are four. Two of them are 'deluxe' and have indoor cook tops. The others do not allow indoor cooking and have grills outside. The kitchen was very well kitted with everything you could need. The Deluxe cabin we rented was decorated in a cabin style with bear and moose motif items. A table for two in the kitchen, a couch for two or three and a nice rocker. A small desk is in the corner of the livingroom with a kitchen chair for seating. Hooks for coats and a place for shoes by the door. The gas fireplace is shut off in the summer because the pilot heats up the cabin. They are on from Septemer 1st. The bedroom has a queen bed, (linens and blankets provided) full dresser, bedside tables, another kitchen chair (a total of four in the cabin) and luggage rack. Two narrow closets included hangers, extra pillows and towels for the pool or hot tub. Three quarter bath was well maintained. Two bath towels and one hand towel. Hand soap on vanity. Hair dryer and extra TP under sink. Shelves for toiletries. Clothes hook on back of door. Two seats and a table are on the front porch. Our parking space was in front of the porch. A picnic table and firepit are to the right of the porch, at the end of the parking space. Our porch faced the gravel road into the campground. The campground is tiered from the road down to the river with camper spots on each tier. No spots are directly on the river. A field designated as a dog exercise area is next to the river, then a small, rocky beach to the river. The road noise is heard throughout the campground, even at the brook where the river babbles over the stones, which is very pleasant. The onsite store rents tubes for riding the river. A path to the left of the dog area ends where you can put the tube in the water, ride it to the end of the beach and repeat the process. Laundry, public bathrooms and shower bathrooms are in a newer, climate controlled building near the playground. A pass code is needed to enter. Two pools and a hot tub are near the office/store. Mini-golf is behind the store. Dump station on the way out near the dumpsters. Gravel roads are maintained. Some site have full hook-up, fire pit and picnic table. Very pet friendly.

Tons of families here when I went and I can see why. And many of the sights have incredible views of the lake and the mountains. Side A camping sites were a bit better than side B.

Gifford Woods State Park is a great location for hikers (or any visitor to the Killington area for…read morethat matter) to bunk for a couple of nights. The park hosts 4 cabins, 22 tent/RV sites, and 21 lean-to sites located around two paved/well-maintained dirt roads on the premises. It appears to be open Memorial Day weekend to late October. It is a breeze to find, easily located just off Route 100. The Appalachian Trail runs right through the park so you may catch a glimpse of some thru-hikers on their journey between Maine and Georgia! The park is very well-maintained! The campsite was neatly raked, the fire pit cleaned out for use. I stayed at campsite #1 and it was quite spacious...a bit further removed from the road than the other campsites. The whole site was marked out with a fine gravel, plenty of room for parking and maneuvering the car. Each road loop contains modern bathrooms and coin-operated hot showers. There are areas for picnicking, volleyball, horseshoes, trash/recycling, and drinking water. Kent Pond is just across the way complete with boat launch and fishing! Booking and check-in were a breeze for this location. I called 10 days before our intended arrival and got a site no problem. On arrival, the ranger at the park office was very friendly and sold us firewood and ice straight from there. If you need any assistance during off-hours, the ranger lives in a cute house attached to the park office. They encouraged us to knock on the door at any time if we needed help. The campsite is pet-friendly and I came across quite a few well-behaved dogs during my stay. Quiet hours are from 10pm-7am. The park itself is pretty quiet all day long... I heard nothing but birds chirping, trees rustling, and a bit less-welcoming: the traffic from Route 100. This didn't bother me so much since I generally wear earplugs to sleep but something to consider if you prefer a more rustic atmosphere when camping. Tent sites are between $20-$22/night, $27-$29 for a lean-to site, and $50 for cabins. There is a 2-night minimum for reservations. Affordable, clean, convenient... I would definitely stay here again!

Smuggler's Notch State Park provides hiking, camping, nature programs, and mountain biking…read more Smuggler's Notch Park got its name because In 1807, President Thomas Jefferson passed an embargo act forbidding American trade with Great Britain and Canada. This was a severe hardship for northern Vermonters, since Montreal was closer than other markets in the US. Many local people continued illegal trade with Canada, herding cattle and carrying other goods through the Notch. Later, fugitive slaves used the Notch as an escape route to Canada. During the Prohibition years, liquor was smuggled from Canada over the improved road built in 1922. My mother and I just rode through and it was miles of the park with different areas to explore. The we're many hikers and explorers out. All I can say is the mountains are beautiful and the atmosphere is amazing. I would definitely want to come back in fall to see the trees change colors.

My wife and I stayed at this campground for our first trip to the White Mountains. We were very…read moreimpressed with the different options for each campsite, we chose one closer to the river. It is very easy to get to and is right off the Kancamagus Highway. Full disclaimer: our stay was late June, right before Memorial Day so it we had the place to ourselves. We chose campsite #10, it had plenty of space for our vehicle and made it very easy for load in/out. I believe it was $22/night (bring cash or check for the honor system envelope drop by the entrance of the campground).The campsite is close to the river but not close enough to hear it. However, there was a little trail from our campsite to the water and it took only a minute to get there. If you want a campsite really close to the Swift River, you'll need to get a campsite #21-24. Our campsite had a picnic table and a large fire ring with a grill grate that will lower over the fire. There were even some large tree stumps left there for seating. We didn't have anyone camping around us, but I'd imagine each campsite has a good amount of privacy and space during peak season. Id recommend buying firewood before you arrive at Passaconoway. The year-round campground host sells firewood (which is very convenient) but you can get double your money's worth if you buy them from little wood stands on the side of the road. If you're passing through Lincoln (via 93 exit on Kancamagus) you will see some self serve wood piles by some gas stations.

Passaconnaway is a great (relatively) primitive campground right off the Kanc. It's got drinking…read morewater and outhouses, but no showers, sinks, or RV hookups. It has a couple of nicely secluded spots and tends to stay pretty quiet (in part because of the lack of amenities). There's a series of trailheads from the lot just across the street that acess some beautiful hikes, and since it's close to the center of the Kanc you're pretty close to whatever else you want to go see in that neck of the woods. Bring cash because it's an "iron ranger" system (currently $20 per night for one car) and the firewood there is $6 a bundle.

Not a ton of rules/regulations like most campgrounds and there didn't need to be as everyone is very respectful there, like it should be! 5. Dogs allowed as long as they are on a leash at all times. Again, not a lot of red tape, paperwork and rules to bring your dog camping which is so nice! 6. Campground and facilities are well maintained and clean. 7. Great location with lots to do nearby. 8. Wood for campfires available for $4 a bundle. Cons 1. We picked a site #56 because it was on the water and close to one of the bathroom locations listed on their map. While they were certainly close, they were actually porta pottys, not actual bathrooms with running water. Not a huge deal ,but had we know this, we probably would've picked a site closer to one of the real bathrooms with running water. 2. No central location to wash dishes other than your campsite. 3. Some of the sites along the water are very narrow and close together. We could actually hear the couple in the site next to us talking every morning when they woke up and it was not because they were loud. 4. No campground store so if you forgot something, you're going to have to venture out in the surrounding area to find what you need. There is plenty nearby, but it's always nice if you can just get it from the campground store. Your best options are site 61 if you want a nice, large site on the water (not a lot of privacy) or site 65 for a nice, large site, but very private with only one site next to you and the other side is trees. If you like camping in an open field with other campers and don't mind the lack of privacy, they have that option too. Really something for everyone. One last note, showers are 50 cents for 6 minutes. Not a pro or con in my opinion, but certainly worth mentioning so you are prepared when you get there!
