We recently moved to the area and our lovely neighbor brought us one of their blueberry pies. For both my partner and I, it was the greatest blueberry pie we've ever had. The crust was very homemade (didn't fit perfectly in the tin) and was the perfect amount of flaky. We think they use honey to sweeten the pie, it was so flavorful. The reason this isn't 5 stars is the prices. I checked out the farm later and it's $10 for a quart of strawberries, which are put in a brown paper bag because they save the quart containers. I had paid $7 at Beth's market in warren just a couple days earlier. Winterberry is wonderful, but it's not made for locals. The interior of their farm stand is magical, and not like any other I've seen, but again adds to it not being for everyday purchases. read more

We decided to finally stop in yesterday after driving by many times and seeing their signs advertising pie. Upon entering, the young woman working asked us if we'd ever been there before. When we said no, she proceeded to tell us about the farm and it's history, in great detail (down to the owner homeschooling all her children and other details we didn't really need to know just to buy a pie). She explained that the farm was organic, which was good information to include, but she used the word "organic" enough times that if I got a flower for each, I could have walked away with one of their beautiful large bouquets. We definitely would have appreciated being asked if we wanted to learn all about the farm or not because some may be interested in standing there for 10 minutes before being allowed to proceed with looking around/shopping, but we were not. When we started to look around, we were first told about everything they were out of, before being told about what they did have, which I found odd. We bought a triple berry pie for $24. When we had it last night, and all 5 of us thought it was ok, but not great. The filling was tasty, but there wasn't much of it, so the pie was quite short and didn't come up near the top of the pie plate. The top crust had nice color, but was difficult enough to cut with a fork that the filling squished out and the bottom and top crusts touched before a bite could be broken off. The crust was dense and not at all flaky, with very little flavor. I generally don't comment on price because I typically feel it's a personal decision to decide whether or not something is worth it's price or not, but I know of other pies in the area that I could get for at least $5 less that are full-height, flavorful, and made with quality ingredients. Overall, if this is your type of place, great for you. Just not for me. read more

Mary - at least over the phone - seems like a very nice person. We bought an apple pie, a quiche, a blueberry bread and a package of ginger snap cookies. We settled up over the phone and never saw Mary in person. Upon arriving at home, the cookie package, we discovered, contained 3 cookies. They tasted nothing like a ginger snap. They had very little flavor at all. 2 out of 10. The blueberry bread is okay. 5 out of 10. The apple pie was good. 6 out of 10. Too much crust and not enough/no cinnamon. We have not tried the quiche yet. However, we discovered that we were charged $74 for our purchase. Completely outrageous is what immediately comes to mind. No matter how good the quiche is, we will not be back. Disappointing. read more

As an apprentice at Winterberry Farm, I have seen Mary wake up at the crack of dawn to bake!! In addition, I have seen the high quality ingredients that go into all of her products. Real butter, eggs from the hens, and her own maple syrup or honey. The produce sold is earthy, fresh, flavorful, and all from her own land . Make sure to get your hands on the raw honey straight from the bees, or some hot pepper jelly! I can't get enough of it. We've driven by this stand for years and always wanted to stop. Sadly, it only had overpriced and underwhelming food. We purchased a chicken pot pie, pirogies, and a blueberry bread for $63. I can get twice the amount at other local farm stands, but I felt badly contesting the price so I let it go. I hoped to be pleasantly surprised when we got back to our place but it only got worse. There was barely any chicken in the pot pie, it only had a top crust that was tasteless and thrown on top without any care. The minimal chicken pieces that were in there included gristle. The blueberry bread was supposedly baked the same day but was a bit dry and tasted bland without many blueberries. We haven't tried the pirogies yet, but at this point I have zero expectations. ******** ***In response to your reply, Mary, we called and left you a message right after we left but never heard back. It's been 3 days. Your pot pie only had a few pieces of potato and a few chunks of carrot. There were no other vegetables, so claiming otherwise is untrue. I have never had a chicken pot pie without a bottom crust, nor one that was as bland. It was truly the worst chicken pot pie I've had in 40 years, and that is not an exaggeration. People have a right to know that you are not selling quality food and that your prices are unreasonable. I hope you improve your goods and reduce your prices, and next time a customer calls you call them back. Lastly, in 27 reviews I've only given 1 star two other times. Most of my reviews are 5 stars, so claiming it's easy to post a negative review is only a defection and not at all why I've reviewed your shop. The farm is lovely. The baked goods and jams were good. We visited in August and Between my friend and I we spent over $250. However, the owner "Mary" simply calculates the price in her head (no prices on anything) and then charges your card and doesn't give you a receipt so you literally have no idea what anything costs. Mary told us to "feel FREE to walk around the farm." So we strolled around and took some pictures of the animals and the barn. When my friend asked her for a receipt of her purchases, it just had a total amount, no breakdown and a $5 charge for a farm tour!! Beware of the "feel FREE to walk around the farm! It will cost you an additional $5/per person which is not posted anywhere nor did she inform us that she was charging our card $5 each for a tour. Shame on you Mary!!! read more

Nothing in the store was priced. We bought a chicken pot pie and blueberry jam and it came to $60. We had the feeling we were charged based on what the lady thought we could pay. The pie was awful, the crust was tough and dry and only three pieces of chicken, literally, the rest of the filling we think was undercooked potatoes, it was sunken in because of lack of filling...really odd. The jam was not prepared properly and was liquid goo with little sugar. I am sad to give this review but please buyer beware, especially when a shop does not put prices on things. We've been driving past Winterberry Farm for 40 years. We finally stopped to check it out. It is darling. Truly an organic experience--you can just tell. We bought a pie and some strawberries. The strawberries were outstanding, as any fresh strawberry is. The pie (strawberry rhubarb) was good as well, but very small. The daughter told me it was 9 inches and showed me with her hands how big it was. It was in a 9in dish. But the pie was not 9inches. The reason for the low stars was the cost. It was $36 for both. To me, that's just outrageous. I've seen other reviews where people are also surprised by the cost and the owner respond stating she's a single mother and a hard worker. Those are admirable. I'm a single hardworking mother of two myself. I love to support small businesses. But this felt like I was being taken advantage of. I'm happy I went. But I probably won't go again. Eight years we've been coming to Winterberry Farms during our summer vacation. It seems it grows more and more each year: moving from a tiny little shack with some pies to a full-blown farm with fresh cut flowers, beautiful CSA Organic vegetables, beautiful yarns and wonderful turkey pot pie's. I always enjoy my stop here and get excited to see what each trip will bring. The beauty of the farm is amazing. Each year I cross my fingers their little jars of pickled fiddleheads are still available and buy up any that I see. I grab all the veggies I can before ever heading to the grocery store to finish off my shopping lists. I love that Mary is so opening in welcoming, allowing you to tour her farm at anytime that you wish. It's a real farm and not every single item is perfect. Came here on purpose to buy a blueberry pie along with some other veggies I needed. The small building was quaint and full of flowers, pumpkins, pies, breads, cookies, jams, and pickled beets/beans. Very colorful place and the person who helped us was full of information about the family farm and history. The blueberry pie was so good planning on picking up another one for the drive home. Prices I found a bit pricey but I guess that's what comes with buying organic. We've grown to love this place so much that we got married here last October. My last and most previous time going was during the winter it was advertised as "private experience" there where is other families there she had hot chocolate nothing special health concern she brings the cups from her home which I checked is against health laws in Maine, next scam is she advertised as private pond to ice skate I swear to god it was a home made makeshift sandbox with a tarp. Holy flipping prices!! I am born and raised on a farm in CT and I love to support any local farm before the big chain stores but I feel the owner is ripping people off. Maybe bc so many people in the area are out of state and don't know better during summer? After my 3rd trip there this summer I realized nothing is marked for price and she never tells me the total. Bc of covid only one customer is allowed in the store at a time so it's a bit rushed (but I appreciate the safety measures). Today I looked in my email for a receipt and I noticed the last two times I was charged crazy prices, $10 for a bag of lettuce, $10 for a bunch of Swiss chard, $10 for a pint of blueberries and $10 for a pint of potatoes!!! That's crazy, like I said I live on a working farm these prices don't add up. I won't be back it feels like a dishonest place. read more

My wife and I are new to the Augusta area and wanted to get in touch with the locals. We thought we would try something out of the ordinary and reached out to Mary for a sleigh ride. We were greeted by her and her son on a crisp Saturday afternoon. Another group of people had gone before us, so they took the time to give a nice little break to the horses; giving them some food and water. The horses were calm and with the quiet winter scenery in the background, it felt peaceful. We went on a 25$/person ride around their farmland/forested property. At some point, the ride stopped and Mary explained to us that one of the horses simply wanted to stop. She kept calm with the animals and we continued on our way soon after. Mary from Winterberry Farm is a lovely person to work with and has an elegant taste for floral arrangements. I opted for a winter wedding and talked with Mary about incorporating a holiday theme into the wedding bouquets without it looking too Christmasy. She listened to my ideas and gave some of her own. It was important to her to know the color theme of the wedding (including bridesmaids and groom attire) so that she could choose flowers and greens that complimented it. In the end, we agreed on burgundy berries, eucalyptus greens, cedar, and white roses. The end results were stunning and all that I had hoped for. Mary was communicative and available throughout the entire planning process, warm and amicable to talk to, adaptable with last minute changes, and was flexible enough to remain in a set budget while still delivering quality and fresh floral designs. I am thrilled to have found her and only wish I was local so that I could order more from her! I highly recommend her for bouquets and centerpieces. This is a great little farm full of lots of animals and awesome things to do. Went here on their winter farm day and paid $25 to take a horse drawn sleigh ride, feed the animals, drink hot chocolate/tea, and eat soup. They are a small farm and needed help with getting things together, but I didn't mind lending a hand by brushing the horses or working getting the sleigh hooked up. I figured the more hands that helped out, the sooner the rides could occur and people would enjoy the day at the farm. The family that owns the farm seems sweet and opening. read more

Mary and her family hosted my family for a sleigh ride experience to celebrate my birthday. The day was lovely as it actually snowed while we took turns riding in the sleigh pulled by two beautiful horses. My daughters got to help groom the horses and talk with Mary's amazing daughter, Sage. Son Gil cleared a space on the pond for us to ice skate after our sleigh rides. We learned about the farm and projects that Mary's children had completed. While waiting for our turn in the sleigh, we sat around a campfire and sipped homemade mint tea or enjoyed a hearty vegetable soup. While the kids ice skated, my mother and I toured the barns and visited with the sheep, rabbit, and geese. Unfortunately, the snow turned to rain so we didn't explore the farm further afield. On the way out, we visited the farm stand and bought some jam. All of the jarred items looked so pretty on their shelves, almost too perfect to eat. But we devoured all of the jam - it was delicious. Hoping to make another visit to Winterberry Farm in the summer to see the flowers and fresh produce. read more

While driving up Route 27 into Belgrade Lakes keep your eye's peeled for a green sign "Pies! Pies! Pies!" I look forward to the mixed berry pie and chocolate chip cookies every year I visit Belgrade Lakes. Everything is baked right there in the store. My brother brought a loaf of there zucchini bread back to camp and hit was a hit as well. Before leaving the lake I bought fresh pesto (frozen to travel) and blueberry and raspberry jam for gifts. I talked with Mary by phone to set up the sleigh ride adventure, which in her website lists for 225.00, it states in her website the pot of soup is included, so I gave her my credit card numbers as she said she needed it to hold my spot.A few days later I checked my card and she charged my card an additional 100.00, I called her to find out what it was..she told me it was for insurance and the pot of soup..I asked her if she could refund me the 100.00$ as it did not say that in her website and she made no mention of it over the phone..she told me she took responsibility for not telling me and did not have the money right now to update her website so basically said to bad ..she also told me she spent it already on grain for her horses but I could purchase stuff in her store..I told I did not want stuff in her store..long story short. Mary is a THEIF and robbed me blind..I dont know how she can sleep at night knowing that she stole from me..well I always believe in the circle of life and it will come back around to her..Be Very care ful when dealing with this nut job ..her business sucks!! I loved my visit to Winterberry Farm! I've been wanting to stop on my way into Belgrade Lakes for many years finally got my husband to pull the truck over. Much to my delight. The farm it's self is absolutely gorgeous and immaculate. Mary the owner is gracious and welcoming and extremely helpful! Her and her family work so hard to keep this farm going. I loved all the fresh fruits and vegetables that we bought there especially the berries, zucchini and the corn. The blueberry pie was delicious and her jams and jarred goods are equally as delicious. Winterberry Farm has exceeded our expectations! The table arrangements and bouquets Mary created for our lakeside wedding in Maine last week-end were exquisite. Guests commented on all evening and continue to do so, after the wedding. The natural aesthetic Mary created with wild flowers, greens, twigs, berries and moss were stunning, flowing gracefully into our outdoor setting. One family member said she was so drawn to the beauty of the bridesmaids bouquets with the lake setting in the background it was distracting her from the ceremony! My family recently stopped to try 4 pies - several fruit pies as well as a Turkey Pie. The pies are a whopping $15 each, had incredibly small amounts of fruit, and were a complete disappointment to the people at the event we took them to. In addition - the turkey pot pie at $15 is barely enough for two people - and contains very small amounts of turkey and fillings. Supermarket pies are much better and have substantially more filling for half the price. There is absolutely no value here - and we will not return. read more

I had a wonderful chance to work with Mary and her family. Though it was a short time, the amount of work she puts into her farm stood out to me instantly. If you visit her farm you will see it. Being an organic farmer can have such drawbacks, but she knows how to operate her farm. As a single mother of 3 children, she has put so much work into making this farm something everyone can enjoy. Everything down to the little details are almost perfect. Her fields are growing and feeding so many people, her chocolate chip cookies will make anyone want to curl up and watch a movie (which translates to AMAZING), her flower bouquets look like something out of a magazine, and she has a genuine interest to tell you about how she runs her farm. I wish Mary the best of luck and was so grateful to spend some time on this farm. P.S she has the most delicious pies & pickles! I recently made a bulk flower order from Winterberry Farms for my cousins wedding. I contacted Mary a few months out to reserve the order. She was prompt and charming. A few weeks prior to my order, I contacted her again to confirm and go over questions about payment and timing. This was not the same Mary I had dealt with earlier. She would not respond to any of my emails or phone calls. I was understanding, being a farmer myself, I know how busy it gets during the height of the season. When she finally did respond, she was VERY rude. Foolishly, I paid her in advance, per policy, when I should have heeded the warning and made other arrangements. When my family went to pick-up the flowers they noticed they were all droopy and sad. Granted, it was hot! Not knowing much about flowers, they asked if the flowers would be okay, if there was something they could do to help them. Her response was, "well, they're living things. They live and die." Not BEFORE the wedding, wouldn't you agree? At least 60% of the flowers had passed. It was as if she deadheaded her farm and rather than throwing them in the compost, she tried to turn a profit. Not one of the flowers had been cleaned, and the buckets were filled with flowerless stems and clippings. I was absolutely appalled. I hid them from the bride and made it work. I never write reviews, but I really caution anyone from dealing with this farm. I had a very negative experience and I wouldn't want anyone else to be in the same situation. read more

I too used Winterberry for my wedding flowers and pies. When I initially contacted Mary over the winter, she was prompt, friendly and very encouraging. She offered to grow specific flowers for my wedding and also said we could do a yoga session and flower picking. As we neared the wedding, I had not heard from her at all. Finally after going to her house/farm did she get back to me. She was extremely over priced, under-delivered and her products were of very poor quality.
