I adore this place! It's always clean, well stocked and has many of the more obscure items I buy such as soy curls and tofutti which I don't see anywhere but here anymore. The produce department is my favorite. Their lettuce and kale bunches are large, local and priced fairly. A great store for vegans/vegetarians! It is a little tight in there as it's not a large store but it is concentrated and laid out well. The staff is usually always friendly but as with any place, there are occasional exceptions. I'd recommend not shopping in the late afternoon as the traffic in that area gets pretty congested. read more

I love this little store. They have trusted healthy products for reasonable prices. Since I've been buying my baking ingredients from Uncle Dean's I can trust that my food is healthy and way better for my well being compared to buying processed foods from large foreign owned stores like Hannaford, Wal-Mart ect.... This is a great market! The amount of local goods they sell is really impressive! From meats, to baked goods, to soaps to, textiles...very impressive We bought mostly food items while we were here. I LOVED the baked goods by the Good Bread company from Maine. Wow, those cookies, were YUM!!! The bread was equally as delicious. We bought some packaged, snacks from the nuts/snacks aisle and unfortunately, that wasn't very good. Tasted stale/odd and we just threw it away. It won't deter us from going back there. If it's busy, which is always seems to be, be careful, while the parking lot seems big enough for people and cars, I saw very close calls with cars to cars and cars to People! Yikes. Not sure what the malfunction is, but it seems people were not going slow and paying attention. I do recommend trying this location - at least to see what they have to offer, you might like it! Loved this little market! I walked over a mile from my hotel in the horrible heat but it was worth it. Great prices on fruits in particular, fresh beautiful apples, watermelon. Fantastic supply of nuts, granola, ect. Great natural product section and vegan treats like unusual biscottis and dips from the area. My type of crunchy place! read more

I love this adorable store. We were headed to Moosehead Lake on vacation. Before we left home in California my husband searched for a health food store and found this place. Great store, we bought a little bit of this and that. :) We even got some local wine! And we appreciated them having the bathroom open to the customers, when so many places still have the bathrooms closed. read more

Are you looking for a store that does not follow safety protocols of the state? This is definitely your place! I walked into this store and was pretty excited that they offer masks, spray for carts, and hand sanitizer. I immediately see a customer without a mask. So, I scope the store to see about asking an employee to deal with this situation. Two employees wearing their masks below their noses. (Seriously, we all know how to wear out masks at this point) I just went got a Covid test because I just flew in from Mexico, I have a double mask on and glasses. But, I need food and quarantining and testing to be safe. This is for you folks! Wear your mask! Businesses that set bad examples, shame on you! I bought nothing and walked out! I will never shop somewhere that could care less about customers or their employees, or their reputation. read more

I want to be kind and understanding in light of the pandemic, as I fully understand and appreciate the added challenges that businesses face during these trying times, but I have officially reached the end of my patience with Uncle Deans. In the past few months, I've observed employees not wearing masks in closely knitted groups, and not wearing masks correctly while in customer trafficked areas. I tried to overlook this at first, because I love the products they stock and am usually in and out, and double masked. This week, I observed a customer who was not respecting social distancing and was completely maskless. When I asked about why they weren't enforcing masks, I was told that because they have a sign up encouraging mask use and had complimentary masks available, they were not going to press the issue further. This is frustrating on so many levels. This does not align with any other shopping experience I've had in this area, or the state itself. Why doesn't the health and well-being of all customers matter ? Through this policy, you are communicating that you would rather avoid confrontation than do what is right for your customers. I won't be returning to Uncle Deans, and neither will my family. I hope they turn things around, for the sake of their employees and remaining customers. read more

My parents are big fans of this small but well-stocked natural foods store. Knowing that I am a fan of Trader Joe's, they thought I might like this place with a big more of a local feel. Very clean, neat and organized. Lots of products. We came for the fresh peanut butter. I snagged a little under a pound of the stuff for under $2. I also grabbed a bag of shredded coconut also for under $2. I love the bulk food for sale. There is a whole wall devoted to pre-packaged nuts and the likes priced at bulk price per pound. They also have bulk spices and seasonings for sale. I wish I had picked up some of the cayenne pepper... a HUGE bag for about $3. Oh well, next time. Though some things were a bit pricey, for example the cereal that I KNOW I can find cheaper at TJ's or even on sale at Shaw's... they have some good sales. When something is on sale it often is compareable to a larger chain grocery store price. But you can't get the great prices on the bulk stuff like you can at Uncle Dean's! read more

Just move back to Maine and and Uncle Dean's was a pleasant find. Nice selection of bulk and harder to find items. Many items in bakery, produce and meats sourced locally. Need to go back again soon and spend more time. read more

Amazing little grocer tucked away in Waterville that can fill all your needs. What specifically drew me here is I'm a bit of a sucker for natural soaps and read about the amazing hallowell soaps that are carried here so thought I would take the trip. For the size it had a large health and beauty department with a lot to choose from. Although being a dude I can't comment on most of it (albeit one who is driving to buy special soap, so I set the irony). The have their own fresh bread that looked amazing. Lots of stuff for the dog too. Bulk spices too which you don't see anymore. But back to the soap site enough they had quite a collection and I picked up a manly scent called tall dark and handsome.
