I got an espresso and a toasted herb bagel with plain cream cheese. Ive been all over Bath, Brunswick, Rockland, and Camden and was convinced that the New Englander's palates were shot. Not a single business has served me a decent espresso. Not a single one until I stopped at Dutchman's. FINALLY a bright, clean shot that doesn't taste like someone put a cigar out in it. Everyone needs to take notes. THEN we get to the bagel....didn't think I was about to have the best bagel of my life, yet here I am. Light, toasted, slightly chewy but not heavy... jeez. Can we talk about the space? It's gorgeous. Airy, cool, industrial...but the people running it make it feel homey. I am of the opinion that New York/New Jersey bagels are the pinnacle of the bagel world, and the further away from New York you get, the harder it is to find somewhere that gets close to meeting that standard. I'd still stop by if I'm in town again, as long as I get there before the big morning rush. Not sure it would be worth the 20+ person line.

The staff acknowledged that the Udi's was "quite an upcharge", which is an understatement. A 5-pack of Udi's gf bagels in Shaws (a Maine supermarket) is about $7.50. For $12, I could have bought a pack of Udi's, a stick of butter, and at least one fresh bakery bagel from a grocery store or local baker... and not been asked to tip the counter staff 20%

I bought some offering while I was waiting. Special mother's day cookies and some of the regular offerings - chocolate chip cookies and lemon blueberry scones. The couple behind me placed a bagel sandwich order and their order was ready in about 10 minutes, which seemed really reasonable and amazing given how busy they were. I continued to watch in person orders being fulfilled. I stood and waited patiently. I inquired once and was told it would be a couple of minutes - this was shared with me even though he didn't actually check any of the slips or ask for my name. I waited. 20 minutes after my online order was estimated to be ready, they yell out, "Is anyone waiting for an online order" I raised my hand. The panicked look on his face when he saw me, showed that he knew, he sold me the baked goods when I walked in 30 minutes earlier....I had been patiently waiting for close to an hour for 2 breakfast sandwiches...just 2 sandwiches! He quickly started scrambling and said, it will be just a couple of minutes. At the same time he was yelling out if anyone knew how to shut off online ordering. I did finally get our sandwiches. 5 Stars for quality of products and they were nice at the register. They lost stars...because they weren't organized and weren't communicating with each other. They simply were hanging online tickets, seemingly deprioritizing them and focusing on filling in person orders. I was aggravated and disappointed as this is not service I have ever experienced with the Sunrise chain. Oakland is always amazing as is Waterville (arguably one of the busier restaurants). If you choose to come here, I would recommend ordering in person.
